    Hi peeps,
just dropping by - I've had a nice day today, went for coffee/brunch with PamsPal - the first time for Aaaages - then we called in the local charity shop to check for yarns/knitting books - no luck today! So off we went to Tesco via a large Dunelm Mill shop!

If you don't have one (Dunelm) near you - be jealous - I picked up a great 1Tog duvet (king size) for £27 - yes 1 Tog, I only use a 3 Tog in winter, so am chuffed to find this, just a bit more than a sheet, ideal for me (+dog - oops). PamsPal picked up some Patons baby wool at half price so she was pleased! They had some gorgeous bedding reduced by half plus loads of other bargains but we were good!:A

Tesco's was, hmmm, a visit to a supermarket so pretty boring, but they had branded whisky at 2 for £20 so that was good:beer: - its getting very expensive these days:cry:!

I finished off my Friendship square tonight and casted on my Memory square - I got a lovely soft smooth yarn for them, which is a bl***y pain to knit - it slips & slides all over the place, the end result is/could be lovely - must try it again but on bamboo needles I think for that bit extra grip. Its "Smooth" by King Cole - keep an eye out in the sales, retail at my local wool shop £3.25 for 100g (236 yards), give us a shout if you see it cheaper.

Shelley - PamsPal is putting some Buntings in the post tomorrow, I'm 'chucking' all my small change into a bowl - I'll cash up and send you the 'readies' closer to the end of the appeal.

In Search of Me - please just relax with your knitting, you will find your own rhythm for producing things for charity, remember all contributions are
more than welcome - they are needed. By the way - would you please tell us more about the Bracelet? (Nosy gene takes over)

Mioliere - Kathy - calm down girl - please reserve some (all) Plum Liqueur for the Wooligans visit !!:rotfl:

    OK - I can see that I'm in full waffle - I know! - I'm celebrating Bastille Day :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    best say goodnight now!

HUGS and best wishes to all.

    luv

Good morning all - don't forget we are an hour ahead of you here, so it's not as early as you think, although I did wake up about an hour and a half ago! I have to get DH up at 6am so I didn't dare go back to sleep in case I overslept. I've been getting on with my Memory Square so I've not wasted the time!

We went back down to the local commune party for the fireworks, having slept off the lunchtime feast - we didn't eat anything else all day because we were still stuffed full of food. After the party, we decided to go down to the nearest town to see what was going on there for Bastille Day. We saw hordes of people all heading in one direction, so we parked up and followed them. We all trekked uphill and down dale for about twenty minutes then found ourselves in a field full of thousands more people, all sat down on the grass. It was very dark by then, with just some floodlights highlighting an old medieval tower. At 11pm, all the lights went out, then we had the most spectacular fireworks display on the roof of the tower, all set to classical music with the most fantastic timing. Imagine the 1812 Overture with fireworks matching the music - it was really wonderful. We've never seen such unusual fireworks, either. After every piece the applause rang out; everyone was really enjoying themselves and, despite the fact that there were hundreds of children, even babies in pushchairs, and loads of teenagers, there was no trouble at all - everyone was really enjoying themselves. We were so pleased we'd decided to go. The only drawback was the climb back up a very steep hill to get back to the car - all in complete darkness, but with the buzz of everyone talking. I always wanted to be in France for their special day and it was well worth it.

Anyway, I'd better get back down to earth and do DH's sandwiches for work. I suspect France will take its time opening for business again today, so I shall stay at home and get on with all the paperwork I need to do, followed by a snooze (which may well have to be before lunch, seeing as how I haven't had much sleep!), and an afternoon knitting.

I'll call back later when the rest of you have woken up!

morning all - hope that everyone is okay - and for those who are not, positive thoughts and loads of energy being sent your way.

have been very bad and have started something else - now have about 8 projects on the go, but i have found that as some of them are with dark wool, it hurts my eyes to continue with them for too long - thats my excuse anyway.

well off for a swim, trying to get into shape - its just the shape that i am trying to get into is eluding me! oh well, i can but try.

have a lovely day all and enjoy all the knitting/crocheting/sewing that you are doing.

DPixie - eight projects on the go at once! Wow! I have two - one is the Memory Square and the other is a cardi for my grandchild-to-be. Inside my head, though, are hundreds more projects. I keep coming across things I want to make. I really should make a list; most of them are for presents for Christmas. Once I've done the squares, and a couple of things for the baby, I will get back into making Preemie items. I am also planning a visit to my lovely woolshop when we are in the UK in August - I can't wait to go in and fondle all the balls of wool! Over here, the one wool shop in the area is part of a posh dress shop. It's as quiet as a library and you feel you daren't touch the wool because it's all been arranged so artistically, and you feel you'd make a mess and get thrown out! Back in the UK, they understand the need to feel the wool, and my woolshop there is always buzzing and full of laughter and helpful advice. The wool's cheaper there, too, by a long way. I shall have a good shopping session when I go in there!

Elaine - if you're reading this, I hope you are OK. We are all still thinking of you and sending our thoughts and prayers.

Maytaurus - are you alright? Haven't heard from you for a while.

Well, back to work if I want to take the afternoon off for some knitting.

    morning all
    wet and miserable here
i finished my memory squae last night and now looking back over the instructions i think ive done the friendship square wrong:o rereading i think i should have just added 2 'logs' of colour to the square so it is like the middle part of the bigger square but ive halved the size of the 'logs' and added 4 thinner ones around each side- it looks ok and it measures 7 1/2 ins square but will it look 'odd' on the blanket if all the others are different? thnak you for choosing this pattern whoever suggested it ive never tried doing it before but it is easy to do and looks very effective:T.
how many squares have we got 'promised' so far im just wondering if you'd like some extra in either size (especially the smaller ones or the little blanket may be quite small) once i know what im doing on them of course:rotfl:

maytaurus i hope you are well and just too occupied with something else to pop in as we do worry about you when you arent around the boards.

kathy sounds like you had a wonderful time celebrating bastille day, shame you have to get back to doing work today

i wish everyone a lovely day with something nce in it, off to do some stuff now (at least loading the washing machie isnt on todays to do list as yesterday lineful is still wet and ive another basket i did waiting to get dry:mad:)

Talking of retirement and picking up the needles again, I sort of retired in 2006, but it was retirement from going out to work. I was a dental nurse in a busy NHS practice on a very run-down estate. It was great at first but, once the NHS changed the dentists' contracts, the workload trebled overnight, but no extra staff were taken on to help with the work. I had gone into dental nursing because my previous job as a legal secretary involved so much typing that it started my tendonitis off. Little did I know that dental nursing would not help at all! I hadn't knitted for years and, to my utmost regret, didn't make any baby clothes for my first two grandchildren (now aged 9 and 6) because my hands hurt too much. I have always knitted for all the new additions to my large family, so it really upset me that I couldn't for these two. I have since knitted lots of toys for them, so I am feeling better about it. Once I'd left work, at DH's insistence, I took six months off, and that's when I started to knit again. I had missed it so much, and it was a lot easier because I wasn't going out to work. I've since found online work that I've been able to bring out here with me so I have the best of both worlds. The only drawback is disciplining myself to do the work! Because I can choose my hours and DH doesn't put any pressure on me to earn a certain amount, the pain in my hands eased off enough for me to be able to type and knit - oh, what bliss! Don't I ramble on?!!

Pippa - I'm so sorry you've had sadness in your life. I don't suppose any of us escape it, do we? I think it makes us better people, painful though the sad times are. I, too, find this thread and all the wonderful people on it, keeps my faith in human nature and kindness. The love and support here - amongst people who have never met , and, sadly, probably never will meet each other - is amazing and humbling. I often think how wonderful it would be if we could all meet up one day. What a day that would be!

    Morning all,

Just popping in quick before I have to go and get another mountain of shopping, I honestly don't know where they put it I'm dreading the summer hols I'll be in the supermarket every other day and I hate shopping for food, it's such a chore.

Mrs MP - you've worried me now about the friendship square I've done, mine has four logs around the middle square, I have started the memory square and I'll see how that looks when I've finished it.

Mioliere - sounds like you had a fantastic time at the fireworks display, as for meeting up one day that would be fantastic but I'm not sure we would get all the nattering in in one day. It would be wonderful to put faces to names wouldn't it.

anyway I've finnished me cuppa so off shopping I go.x

i might have got it right first time without realising it then:T, i read it through the second time and thought i'd got it wrong and it should have been a square with two logs going down two sides BUT doing it with 4 makes a miniature of the centre of the bigger one so the colours are the same and the pattern will be. also if we have both done them like this even if its wrong there will be at least two of them to keep each other company;)
