Morning all. Memory blanket is a great name for the big blanket, and how about friendship or friendly or something for Elaine's? Or am I being thick and they both come under the same name?

prfungi sorry to hear you lost your husband.

People who are looking after their mum, I understand how you feel, I looked after my mum for eight years happily except towards the end, which was heartbreaking. I really try to just remember the happy times.

maytaurus you have such a lot on your plate and now the poor little dog, how is he? Do you know yet what's wrong?

Had visitors last night so didn't get to knit, now need to vacuum!

    Hugs to everyone.

    Good morning to you all

Don-- Hope you get on well with the little square. It really is not difficult once you get the idea of the casting off and picking up and I am sure you will enjoy it as its not repetitive. If you would rather please just feel free to knit aplain square as per instructions on the first post POST 3818
Dpixie-- Yes please we would love a crochet 1 . All will be welcomed and woven into the blanket which is going to be so special and a lovely tribute to Jim

Thanks for the ideas for names they are lovely and a BIG thanks to you all for embracibng the idea. As the squares arrive I will take pictures so we all feel a part of it.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADD ANY IDEAS YOU MAY HAVE AS THIS REALLY IS OUR PROJECT I THINK SO MANY PEOPLE FELT THE NEED TO DO SOMETHING IT JUST SO HAPPENED I WAS HAVING A SLEEPLESS NIGHT AND GOT IN FIRST AT SUCH AN UNEARTHLY HOUR

I think it is really important for everyone to choose their own colours. I am sure it will look beautiful.

For sewing up sake the nearer it is to measurements the better even if it takes knitting a couple of extra rows.

The size of the big square is 15 inches
The size of the little square is 7 and a 1/2 inches

However dont worry too much I will just give it all a gentle tug if need be.

Will update later as we have DMIL to lunch and I must get on !!
Try and do a good deed every day.

    morning ladies

mioliere - thank you for choosing the suggested name i gave for the squares - although i thought after i had posted that I was butting in ....

maytaurus - sorry to hear you and Mum have not been great and on top that your poor dog is unwell - hope things are improving - i dont know how you cope with all that you do and still post such nice posts to us all and think of us all - thinking of you and warm hugs xx - as for the baby vests well it started because i had heard that a WI group (or something like) were knitting baby vests for a charity - I asked on here did anyone know of this and could we help - I dont think anyone had heard and I asked Shezmit would she like vests - have tried and tried to get the pattern via someone but to no avail!!! I am assuming though that the vests for the preemies would need to be back opening (or am i barking up the wrong tree or maybe they dont use them?????) - I think I might leave that idea for now ....... on any of the preemie sites they dont have vests and I would have thought they would have them if they were widely used.

Oh dont I waffle when I get going - SORRRRRYYYYYY!

Anyway - love to you all - its absolutely wonderful how we are all pulling together and so enthusiastic about the squares - you are really and truly a great bunch of ladies! pop back later Jaqui xxxx
PS My 'THANKS' button on the posts is still not working so am giving a BIG THANK YOU verbally! Must be a glitch somewhere!

    Morning everyone

What a great idea chalky count me in, just so happens I have finished all that was on pins so I am raring to go .

I will have a practice first to make sure I know how it goes.

So let me get this straight, we are doing
    1 Memory square 15" and 1 Friendship square 7and 1/2".
in DK on 4mm needles (old size 8)

My stash is immense at the moment so I have lots of colours to choose from, only problem is as always making my mind up.

The first thing I made when I joined this thread in early 2008,was Smoky squares, I thought then what a lovely thoughtful idea it was to do something like this, as Kathy said we ended up with so many we had enough for the Smokelets as well.

This has got to be the nicest thread on the forum, no nastiness, no sarcasm, no arguments just lovely caring people who are not afraid to show they care :A

    (((hugs))) for Elaine and family

    Hello Everyone,

Maytaurus - So sorry to hear you and your mum and your little dog have been unwell, hope you all get better soon.

F1 widow - Great name for the squares.

I had a practise run last night with my small square using the linus project pattern, I was surprised how easy it is. My square measures 8 1/2" so will have to practise some more, might try some different wool.

    Big hugs to you all.x
