    Good morning everyone.

Chalky - I think that's a wonderful idea; thanks for thinking of it. We all feel as if we want to do something for Elaine, and the idea of a blanket will bring everyone on here even further together, and help a great cause at the same time. I well remember how sad we all felt - and still do - for Smokybabe, and the wonderful response from everyone. We ended up with a blanket for her and one each for the three Smokelets, didn't we? What an amazing response from some of the nicest people I could hope to 'meet'.

Please let us know what wool (DK?), needles and colours you would like us to make the squares with.

I hope everyone would like to make a square - it would be a lovely token of how we all feel at this sad time.

    G'mornin all,

Chalky75, thank you for your lovely post - just the thing to pick me up this morning.
Wonderful idea re the blanket, I wonder if Elaine may like a small one for herself? here's the link -

I remember when my DH died I was desperate for an oasis of "normal", I feel we should make an effort to get back to our chatty selves so this can be an oasis for Elaine when she needs it.

    ((Hugs)) to all,

    luv

    morning all
I think that it's a wonderful ideal count me in as well. I think that we all feel like we want to help in some way and if Elaine reads this when she ready she will feel that we all care and are here for her

  • Great idea, count me in for a square (well it will likely be squarish-but I will try), also love the idea Pam suggested for wee blanket for Elaine - would that be smaller squares same yarn/pattern - I am thick so that's why I have asked the question.

Put me down for one too!

I came on here this morning intending to suggest going back to basics and making a Smokey blanket for Elaine - although that was before my time on here. Also I think Pam makes a very good point - the strange and wonderful mix of people that makes the Wooligans is normal and this thread has always been a lovely welcoming, supportive, lively, friendly, funny place to be so we need to maintain that Wooligan normality for Elaine.
Chalky, let us know the finer details when you've had a think. My needles are ready to go!

Oh my goodness that is wonderful --- but I expected no less from you all. I am just out of the shower after having to sleep in after my far from normal start !!

Right lets go -- as many as want please join us but equally if you have other things, families, feeling sad or poorly or its just not for you don't feel excluded. Please keep posting and the encouragement will help us all so much.

I also agree that Pam's idea is absolutely wonderful and it would be lovely to do a smaller replica to send to Elaine . Pam so sorry to hear about your husband.

So here goes with the instructions for both squares
The pattern is larger than we need on the linus site and I propose the following

    1) If you are using the linus pattern follow instructions for wool and needles i.e 4mm / No 8 and double knitting

Please knit 4 repeats of the pattern and send it. Mine come out at about 15ins each (Jean don't worry I can pull and stretch when needs be as can be seen by my hedgehog stuffing !!)This would make the square exactly the same as the big one in the picture below.15"

    2) For the smaller replica blanket for Elaine just do 2 blocks. It might be a nice idea if you used the same wool for the two squares so that Elaine would be able to see from the small 1 the overall effect of the larger one. However please don't anyone feel they need to go to any particular expense for this project as the love that goes into it will not have a cost which is the important bit.

If you want to just do straight garter stitch -- i.e all knit as I think that would fit in with the other squares Cast on 80 stitches and knit 170 rows/ or until it basically measures 15 " square . Thats what makes mine work !!

The smaller square can be seen half completed on the picture below and this one shoud measure 7 and a 1/2 ins. This is is 2 repeats of the Linus pattern.

If making your own smaller square Cast on 30 stitches and knit 60 rows or again haow much takes to make it a 7 and 1/2 square.

Please choose wool of your own choice but I am going to start it off with the 6 squares I have made which happen to use the random and plain wool combined in a variety of colours. I will post a picture of my completed squares later but have to go to town later

Thanks for all the encouragement and I just hope by doing this small thing we shall be helping Elaine and her family in such a difficult time but also helping us all.
    Love Linda

Elaine, so sad to hear your news and my thoughts and prayers coming to you...

Re the blanket lovely idea and I am happy to contribute but also wondered whether we could do one for elaine so that we could literally wrap our love around her....just a thought....

In Search of Me -- Thanks for joining us . Yes, I think your idea of " wrapping Elaine in our love " is a brilliant one.

I have underlined the idea of a replica blanket which Pam also thought of in my post above.Which makes it easier to see amongst the waffle.
