Looks like we're going to have some great blankets! Think I might try the log cabin for the bigger squares and maybe design something for the smaller ones. What is everyone else going to do?

In the spirit of keeping the wittering going, I've been trying to teach myself to use dpns. In common with my early adventures in crochet, I feel like I don't have enough hands! I'm going to give up for a while and try again in a few weeks. Going to look for some wool tomorrow if I get chance and get started on my squares.
what are you trying to knit with the dpn's?
i had my first attempt with them on tuesday, want to knit socks, but i only had a set of 4 and was finding it difficult, she uses 5 and finds it a lot easier, so i have order another set off ebay.

shelly, sent a parcel to you this morning, containing, 30 buntings, lots of aaron squares and a baby hat.

also sent a parcel to lou this morning for the summer challenge.

going to start a log cabin square tommorrow, when i have had a chance to go upstairs and find some pretty colours

  • Evening all,
Re Elaine Blankie Squares - I tried the linus log pattern thingie not so long since, and although it sounded complicated, I think I managed it okay (although it'snot square as one of the wools I used was a lot thicker than the rest and it's pulled it in)...but it's made a nice playmat for DD. Count me on Elaine's squares - will start one tomorrow and post when completed - will try a smaller replica one too.

MUST sort my sewing up and get a parcel off to Shezmit and Lou - add that to the ever growing to do list!

    Big hugs all round,

    Dawn xx

Hi all - just popping in to catch up with you all. Had a busy day and this has been my first chance.

I will update on Monday to include the last two weeks. It would be nice to include the squares in memory of Elaine's husband, but am wondering what we can call them. If we use his name, it could be upsetting for Elaine to keep seeing it on here. If anyone can think of a name, please post on here. Or perhaps we could just call them Linus Project, or Special Squares, or something.

Anyway, I'm working on a cardi for my expected grandchild, but will start my square off once that's finished. I shall take another look at the pattern for it now.

Hope you are all having a good evening.

[FONT=&quot]I thought I’d use for 15 inch square, a pattern I made up for a small preemie blanket,I want to test it again for size before I put it on here though as I'm not sure what size hook I used
could you tell me what colour range is being used?

    For 15"x 15" basic square I use
Size "H" 5 mm Crochet Hook

    Row 1: Ch 58.
DC in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across
Row 2-25:Ch 3,turn.Dc in each dc across.Finish off

Hi Shaz, I was only playing with them to see if I could get the hang of them. I was using 4 needles too - think I might end up losing an eye if I use 5, because my technique is so poor (I usually tuck a needle into my armpit and knit :o which isn't a possibilty with the wee needles and definitely added to my dpn woes)I had in mind a small preemie hat but the first time was interrupted so much by small noisy people that it started off knit and ended up purl . That must be the be careful not to twist the stitches thing all the instructions mention! I wanted to see if dpn socks were a possibility like you, but that's definitely on the back burner for now, until I get the hang of it :o. I think I will eventually - after all, I finally got there with the crochet.
Maytaurus, I love the idea that we are all threads in each others tapestry - a wonderful image and sort of sums this place up.
    Night all

Hi all, I am not sure am upto the challenge of the Linus square myself but I wanted to tell you that you are all amazing and I hope that the Memory Squares are a great comfort to Elaine - still thinking of you xxx.

I will give the little square a try now as I have just finished my first preemie baby cardigan, just need to get the buttons now for it - I kind of followed another pattern I had instead and just minaturised it to suit the preemie pattern.

I hope everyone is well and again, its brilliant how you all come together and support each other, it's lovely.

    best wishes, Donna xxx

    Hi everyone.

It's lovely how everyone is coming together for the Memory Squares (thanks to F1widow for the name for them - it's just right). I need to get DH to get my wool box out of the spidery attic room to look for some nice colours. I shall try the Linus Project pattern for my squares. Did you have a colour theme in mind, Chalky, or shall we just choose the colours we like?

I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I've been making hats, scarves, socks and gloves for DGS and DGD's wooden artists' mannekins - I'd made some before we left the UK, and they asked for some more. Well, I've just finished two sets for each (quite challenging, since I don't have a mannekin here and had to guess the sizes), and will get them in the post tomorrow. Then I shall finish the newborn cardi I'm making, then start on the Memory Squares.

Pam - I'm so sorry to hear about your husband.

Maytaurus - what a lovely post from you. I'm sorry that both you and your Mum have not been too good, and I hope your dog gets better soon. She's so young to be poorly, isn't she?

Well, we have visitors this morning, which I could do without, really! I have to make a start on DH's end-of-year accounts, so that we can give them to the accountant when we come back to the UK in August - it will be the last set of accounts we have to do (thank heavens, I hate the job!)

As I say, I will update tomorrow.

    Have a good day, everyone.

morning all - how lovely that things are "getting back to normal". i am sure that elaine will pop in for a bit of normal some time soon and will be ever so pleased with the latest idea. chalky i would love to crochet a square if thats okay with you - in fact i could do a large and a small. i need to go to the wool shop tomorrow to get some wool to finish my dog blanket (i dont have any more wool in the colours that i had chosen and i need some buttons - well thats my excuse anyway) so let me know what colours would be good so that i can pick some up then.

ladies, just to let you know that i think you are all wonderful and i am proud to be part of what you are doing.

many happy thoughts being sent to all of you.
have a wonderful day everyone, its much easier to do when you know that you have a friend just at the end of your keyboard.
