Hi gillysmiles, welcome to the thread - its lovely here, everyone is helpful and supportive. You can join in the chat or just "lurk" (I do that a lot depending on my frame of mind - then again sometimes you can't shut me up!:rotfl:). Sorry you're not able to play with wool just now but I'm sure you'll have some good hints and tips for us.
Enjoy being here:j

Hi and welcome to Gillysmiles - it's such a shame that you can no longer knit or crochet. You're still more than welcome to join us, so please do!

We had a lovely time last night with DS2,DIL and DGS. He went to bed at 7:00 and went straight off sleep and not a peep out of him, DS2 and DIL got back around 10pm we were surprised as we did'nt expect them until later, anyway they had a nice meal so that was the main thing.
Well I am off for a peaceful couple of hours, OH has gone to his club for a game of snooker, and I am off to the sofa for a bit of a knit
My feet ache after all the walking today....tell you about it tomorrow.....

Pam, the pattern is Sirdar number 8845 and uses 5 1/2 mm needles. I haven't had chance yet to try the test piece - the evening is slipping away from me! I have been watching the amazing storm we have been having here.
The part work is The Art of Knitting. The squares vary alot (though there are quite a few garter stitch ones..) and the idea is that you learn new stitches and techniques and then use them in the squares - gets you to do intarsia (not very good at that) cables (the only time I've ever done them!) moss stitch, seed stitch, stripes etc and are supposed to all come out at 10x10 cm. I'll have a dig through them at some point. The key to it all coming together (in their pictures!) seems to be that they only use about 6 colours in different combos. Was there a particular fancy square anyone would like me to look for? Hope everyone is well. I'm feeling v tired so think I might have an early (for me) night. But maybe i'll do my test piece first...:o this is why I'm always tired, just another row, just a few more stitches :rotfl:0 -

Hi K2, thanks for your reply I LOVE the pattern - here's a pic folks!
Good luck with the test piece - I hope it helps !
Perhaps I can be first on the list to borrow the patt. when you've done!
- I've found the Art of Knitting site but it won't let me see any detail for the squares without subscribing - there are one or two of the squares on Ravelry but I didn't realise they were only 4" squares  - terrifying thought! I think we can come up with a better plan - I've collected about 4doz "squares" patterns so far mainly lace type stitches but also cables n things - believe me I have barely touched the surface - I look for "washcloth" or dishcloth patterns which are extremely popular in the US - and there are Soooo many types of pattern heres a link for a good list - just to whet your appetite :

You sure will be first on the list Pam but perhaps it should be if not when. having said that, have just done a little test patch and it looks much better - THANK YOU for your tips! I am still up, distracted from going to bed by news of Michael Jackson dying. Should go though, certainly need my beauty sleep! Might have a look at the squares link first though......:D
