Finally got time to check in.
Mam had her scan on Thursday. She has lots and lots of small gall stones. Waiting about a week to see what the surgeon says, but the consensus now is that he most likely won't operate given her age and health - she will just need to be treated whenever she gets the fever, and monitored very closely in case of blockage. She was pretty sick all through the night last night, but is as right as rain today.
Brother Lawrence went in straight after mam, but they didn't tell him any results. He has to wait until he sees his consultant.
Brother Alan (Not husband! :rotfl:) has been given another date for his operation - It's the 30th June now, so fingers crossed this time.
Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts... It really helps :T
Hope everyone is well.

Can anyone advise please?
I'm doing the crochet sleeping bag pattern here
http://debbiespreemiepatterns.wordpress.com/2008/11/25/sleeper-sack-crochet-version/
and it says to carry on until the body is 12" from neck edge. Does this seem right? Seems long to me.
Thanks in advance0 -
update for me!
2 baby buntings
1 Aaron square
1 baby blanket - apologies, its a slightly odd shape, its 16 inches by 27 inches but am sure it could be used for a pet blanket perhaps??
I will be sending off my first package this week with everything in it that is in my sig - is it better to send it recorded delivery or just via normal 1st class post?
Thanks all and well done everyone this week! :TBSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -
Don, saw a tip on a thread somewhere (may even have been this one) that if you send 2nd class on Friday, it gets there on Monday.
Sent my last one 2nd class in the interests of being MSEand it got there pretty quick.

Hello all -haven't managed to pop over here to see what you are all doing for weeks - life at Loving Hands HQ is extremely hectic as you can imagine :0) We now have over 600 members all very busily working away making lots of lovely things for all of the wonderful and very deserving charities we help out. We are now half way through the summer challenges and the only one we are struggling a bit with the numbers for are the Sands baby blankets for the memorial boxes - now that the members have seen there is a shortfall I know they are all doing their best to make at least one and I have every faith that the target of 200 will be reached by the end of the challenges on the 18th July (just before my 50th birthday :0).
We have now got a new animal charity to help out as we were approached by Friends of the Animals RCT in wales to ask if we could make them some doggy fashion items for a charity show they are having to raise funds - this ties in nicely with our current appeal for animal blankets, coats and beds. We have already had some really great dog coats in for this and I am sure Nia from the charity will be delighted when she sees them.
I have noticed a few questions when reading through your posts so will do my best to answer them. Yes we do accept the angel snow capes - we have sent quite a few of them off to our UK hospitals and some overseas as well. Recently we have found more outlets both in the UK and abroad for our prem baby items and burial clothing so these are once more needed as we have posted out our current supplies. We have also had a reduction in the number of boobs coming in recently and as these are and have always been one of our main charity knits (we also have a crocheted version as well) and the best 'pay it forward' charity we work with we could certainly do with upping the flow of mammaries once more. (These are great as through our partnership with Tommee Tippee the boobs we send in to them are taken to baby shows, midwives can have them for simply putting a wee donation in a collecting tin, the money collected goes to breast cancer charities and then in return for supllying the boobs Tommee Tippee send us donations of baby things we can forward to our overseas charities - we love things like this that help lots of people at the same time).
Other things we need at the moment - clothing of all sorts for children from babies to 16 years, warm clothing and knee rugs for the elderly, blankets for all purposes - babies, children, the elderly and animals, pet beds and dog coats, toys of all descriptions (yes Linda we can use your lovely wee hedgies and the other cute toys you make as well - the more the merrier!). Our stitchers are also kept busy making bags for teddies and st's, sanitary towels and holders for our project washables challenge and summer clothing for children.
We now have two new groups up in the North of Scotland. Our two groups in Stonehaven and Bridge of Don are run by three lovely ladies - one of whom is also a member on here. They have only been going a few weeks and are already doing ever so well and we are very proud of them - thank you Mag, Alana and Elaine - hopefully the success of your groups and our others in Portsmouth, Carrickfergus and the mother group here in Kelty will spur more of our members on to help form other Loving Hands groups all over the country.
If any of you are wondering about my health - I am doing fine - taking each day as a gift and just waiting until my surgeon is ready to do the next part of my reconstruction. He has said he will leave it now till after my birthday in July so I can have a nice dinner with my family (no noisy parties for me as I don't drink and I do not have the energy or ability to dance the night away any more ;0) Because of my underlying condition (Ehlers Danlos Hypermobile Type) my wounds take forever to heal and leave extremely nasty scarring so they are referring me to some more specialists before doing any more traumatic surgery as they do not want to do more harm than good. I won't mind if they feel it is unwise to try to 'fix' my face - I have been making masks that cover the left side of my face and forehead so if needs must I can continue to wear them - they can be customized to look as plain or as fancy as I feel like and camoflague most of the 'missing' bits very nicely.
Finally, I seem to have wittered on forever here, we are celebrating world knit in public day next Saturday 13th June by having a knitpic in the park. We will be meeting up in Pittencreiff Park in Dunfermline between the Pavillion and the childrens play parks (or if wet in the Pavillion itself) from 1 to 4 pm. Looks like quite a few of our members from as far afield as Glasgow and Aberdeen will be converging on the park that afternoon. Can't wait to put a few more faces to names.
Keep up your good work and thank you for all you do for us here at Loving Hands xx
(wanted to post pictues and things but your system won't allow me to post attachments for some reason - presume I am not classed as a full member yet).
Great to have Kathy back posting on LH board again and wonderful to see how many of you here are also LH members - we treasure every one of you and your input is very gratefully received.
Right off to make up hubby's 'piece' for the morning and hopefully get some sleep soon. I will try to makie it not so long before I pop in next time xxx0 -
Hi Lou
Lovely to see you over here again. Glad your surgeon is taking your celebrations into account!
I've got a SANDS blanket on the needles at the mo, but due to my short attention span, I do other bits at the same time as bigger stuff. It will be finished though!
When are you going to post a wish - list for the Xmas boxes? I love the idea that they go to all age ranges.
See you again on LH!0 -
:j:j I am very proud of myself, Ive just finished my FIRST little baby hat:j:j
It looks so cute and small but I have to say I am relieved my little boy was not so tiny when he was born but then he was 2 weeks late and weighed 9lbs 4oz!
It was very easy to make and I am a little worried as I fear they may be quite addictive to make!!
