Re;‘Convert 4 ply to double knit’
DK wool is different plys depending on which country you are in or where the pattern originates
I you knit a tension square - and see how much larger than the stated tension it is coming out. You should see a stated tension/gauge somewhere on the pattern (normally a stated number of stitches per inch) and you can compare this to the tension square you knit
If it seems too large then, depending on the stitch pattern, you could reduce the number of stitches. If the pattern is a repeating pattern over a number of stitches - say a 12 stitch repeating pattern then you can reduce the number of stitches by a multiple of that number of stitches.

    Have a look here at a Yarn comparison chart, there are also lots of links for info & patterns;

maytaurus - thanks for the BOGOFF details - but have had to close my eyes to that one ha ha

I defected for a little while earlier to the "cardmaking forum" had an idea to casually mention that I had some cardmaking stuff for sale - lady came back with the idea of selling some items in bags like starter kits - so I may be sorting that out tonight.

Have just finished an Angel Snow Cape (minus the eyelash wool) - I am so chuffed with it (slight mistake with the shaping but at least I worked out where i have gone wrong) - now I cant do links but it is on https://www.bonniebabies.co.uk - it is so pretty and delicate - shezmit /LH do you take these?

better go and cook (hmmmmmm) take care and hugs to all jaqui xxx

Hi, just a quick question - is there any type of wool at all that is a definite NO when it comes to making Baby Buntings and baby items??

I have got some cotton but it seems a little stiff and I don't want to use it if it won't be suitable or nice and soft.

    Thanks! Donna

Thanks, sorry, just thought of something else! It says size eight needles on the pattern but if I use a 4mm or 5mm needle would that be ok? Or does it have to be a bigger size than that?

I wondered whether the size eight mentioned may be an american sizing that's why I asked.

I have some sparkly wool too!

Hello and welcome to Andrew and Donna and anyone I may have missed, nice to see you, come on in and have a chat ....but be warned..... you will soon be as addicted as the rest of us :D

I have been working on the ripple blanket, I think I am getting obsessed but it looks good I am really pleased with it,decided to do 2 crochet rows in each colour from my knitting bag(s) up to 10 colours so far.

    Advice needed please :o
A few weeks ago my friends SIL gave me 2 huge bags containing 15 x 100g assorted balls of yarn, and I am sorry to say it smells of cigarette smoke, very strongly, she had it stored in her loft and found it when she moved house recently. She must have had it for ages as she gave up smoking years ago.
Has anyone any idea how I can freshen it up??? I did think of washing it, but am worried it will get so tangled up I won't be able to unscramble it, and I don't want to waste it.
    Any help gratefully received

    Hi Everyone
Good to see you back Jean - sounds like you've been busy!
I've just finished a sleeping bag from the pattern that clever Elaine rewrote - thanks loads Elaine! It isn't perfect (I noticed a naughty row where I forgot the 4 garter stitches on the border but haven't frogged it because it is the horrible removing marker row) but hoping it will be OK. Shelley, I was going to send it to you without buttons if that's OK as I haven't got any.
Anne, I think I've seen on a thread somewhere on OS that people have successfully washed wool while still in balls inside a pair of tights to stop it tangling. I have never done this though.
Onlygirl, hope your painting is finished soon - it gets to be a drag when it goes on too long doesn't it?
Watching Star Trek film now and wondering what to do next......!

Just a quickie, has anyone come across a crochet pattern for boobs? Feel the need to slouch after knitting the sleeping bag, and crochet is better for slouching

Have just started trying to crochet an angel pocket. Not sure how I'm going to do the triangle bit yet. This could end up being one of my exotic tangles...
    Where is everyone?
Elaine, you are very quiet. Is everything Ok with DH?
Shaz, are you lurking even if you don't feel up to posting?

    Hope everyone is OK x
