Hi, after asking on freecycle, a lovely lady has a carrier bag full of wool odds and ends for me to use to knit up some items to give for charity! :jSo.... what I need to know is what is the easiest thing to start with? What would you recommend? I can do baby hats and mittens but what is the thing that is most urgently needed and I would like to give it a bash.
She also said she potentially has another two carrier bags full  So when I collect them, if it is too much for just me alone, I would happily post them onto some others on here who need some wool.
Also, if I crochet lots of little squares and sew them together for blankets, what charity needs blankets and who would they be suitable for?
Thanks very much!

Buntings are easy to do and are always needed
http://www.touchinglittlelives.org/knitbunting.html
they don't need to be lined or ribbon added as i have loads here
Blankets are always needed from 12" square to 30"

Hi everyone
Got my painting finished yesterday and (not easy to impress) DH said I had done "a really good job, brilliant" so I had to sit down for the rest of the night to recover from his praise :rotfl:
Have done a couple of buntings but can't decide what to do next (getting my usual can't-finish-itis with the hooooge blanket) so will have a browse through the all in one place link - which will delay making a decision for at least another hour .
Did it make your eyes water Chalky? :rotfl:
Off to get something done... will bear your wish-list in mind Shelley and hopefully get some posted to you this week.0 -
Hi Shezmit, I noticed in your sig that you have sewn blankets together with Aaron Squares - are they just crochet squares? if not what are they and how do you do them?
Donna
Edit! - for the buntings - what colour would you prefer? I have some yellow/lemon colour wool I know won't be using for anything else and I do have quite a bit of white but I know white is not always preferred.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -
Don, any pastels or white are perfect for buntings.
The Aaron squares are 4" x 4" sewn together to make blankets. I have done some crochet ones (just squares of DC) or you can do garter stitch knitted ones.0 -

Hi Donna
Welcome to happy land :j
Don't know if Shelley will be back tonight so I'll answer for her.
Aaron is Shelley's son, and she taught him to knit squares. After a while she asked us all to help him a little and so 'Aaron squares' were born. They are 4" x 4" squares. I knit mine (quite the expert now :rotfl:) but I'm sure crochet would be fine too. Any pastel colours including white.
Acrylic wool is best for all items for some reason I'm not sure of.
The buntings can be any pastel colour too, including white as they are for this country. It's only when knitting for some other countries that white is not allowed.
There are lots of other groups and charities wanting stuff too, so whatever you knit will be needed by one or the other of them. Somewhere around here there is a page with all of the links.

Well what i can say :rotfl:You love doing your aaron squares don't you:rotfl::rotfl:Parcel arrived this morning everything is perfect thankyou so much
Did I have enough tape on the box? :rotfl:
Squares are great because I can knit them in the middle of the night without having to put the light on and risk disturbing mam. Three months ago when I first joined here I swore squares would be all I would be doing, now here I am even doing crochet blankets and hats.
Oh! By the way... Is there any hope for my poor little teddy? I knit him ok, but sewing is most definitely not my forteTotals: 30 Buntings, 2 Gowns, 13 Chalky Squares0 -
