  • I've been browsing this thread for a while (such a lot of information and a great inspiration!), so thought it was time I went public.

Today a bag of yarn arrived from ebay and I am ready to knit some squares. I'm not sure, though, whether to do 7" or 8" - as I've seen both mentioned, and I've gone cross-eyed scouring various websites trying to find out.

Hi Zipitty and welcome to you! Squares need to be 7". When we first started last year, we did 8" squares for specific projects, but have since learned that the standard size is 7"! I hope you enjoy it here - please read the very first post on this thread which has loads of info but, if you have any questions, feel free to ask us on here! Thanks for choosing our thread for your very first post on MSE!

    i know this is cheeky

Can everyone do me a massive favour please

Can you keep your wool reciepts for me as i send parcels to the hospitals for premature babies, But when parcels get lost i am having problems with Royal mail proving how much wool costs and i have to provide them with reciepts so i can claim the full amount back, At the moment all they give me is 12 stamps which just cover the cost of the postage not the cost of the knitted and crocheted items. I would so much appreciate if you can help me in anyway

even if you get them from charity shops

    thankyou

  • :j :T Yes - I think I've done it - managed to take photos and get them on here - how can a 56 yr old woman get so excited about this?!?!?

As I said, have been busy making gifts for my two DDs birthdays (four days apart, and three weeks after Christmas!!:o) DD1 asked for a tea cosy, and I made DD2 a sewing roll in the hope of enouraging her to be crafty;) Had a lovely girls night yesterday to celebrate bds - at DD2s where DD1 cooked a meal and we watched PS I Love You and Mammia Mia (aren't Meryl Streep and Julie Walters great?!) Anyway, enough waffling - time to put my money where my mouth is - by the way, the cosy is terracotta and cream (to match here kitchen) and I don't know why it looks so pink.

Thanks Maytaurus and Kathy for hints on pompoms. The original pattern was knitted in 6 modern shades of Aran (gooseberry, raspberry etc) and was out of the question with unemployment in our house.

    With needle case open

th_Birthdays2009005.jpgI sewed the scissors in so they wouldn't wander, but she can always cut them out to replace them

The outside is quilted but I think the wadding is too thick - I would split it if I made another

the pockets contain one white and one black spool of thread, a tape measure and a plait of muti-coloured threads that I bought from Beatties for £3.10 - the total money cost of the gift - how MSE is that?!;)

I forgot to say - the green flowery material is fabric left over from my wedding dress 13 years ago - it cost £15 and as well as the dress, it has made a child's dress, my tea cosy, this roll - and there's still some left!:rotfl:

Currently trying to gues DD1s name on MSE as she's just joined.

Now - back to the preemie knitting and take more pictures to go on MSE!!

Love to all my virtual friends,

    Chris

Hi all - Shez, I'll hang on to receipts when I more wool! It's sad to think of parcels getting lost, isn't it?

    Shaz - I haven't got a B&M near me, sadly. That's a great price!

Christbethany - what a lovely post. (Nice to meet someone else born in 1952!). Both your tea cosy and the sewing roll are beautiful!

Tooties - thanks for the update.

I've nearly finished my first trauma toy for LH. I'll post photos but can't manage to get them on here, for some reason. I've tried loads of times. I can put them on our Yahoo group, though, or Facebook.

Well, I've just enjoyed Ice Age and now I must dish up the chicken casserole.

    Have a great evening!

Thanks Shelley that arrived quickly, OH only posted it yesterday morning, he did send it 1st class though, and you are welcome to the other x

Kathy - I have finished the jumper now so can you add 1 JUMPER for Chalkys appeal please. I went to see my friend Jo today she had saved me another couple of balls of wool, one is a mohair mix full 50g, and the other is the eyelash I have been using for the L/H scarves I reckon about 25-30g left of that so I will sort out what I have left and make a stripey scarf.

Welcome to all the newbies there is always room for more, so come on in and join us  :j
