Hi everyone. Not been able to come on here since this morning; it's been so busy. I've had the grandchildren round after school and my DH went to his sister's to collect the baby things she has kindly given to us for when DS2 and DIL's baby is born. She was giving away some lovely bits of pine furniture, too, so he brought those back for us to take to our new home. He couldn't turn them down - one of them is a deep shelved cupboard, about 5' high and just begging to be used as a wool store! It should hold all my supplies with ease. Most of our furniture is old pine and it will match up a treat. I've ordered DH to think of it as 'the wool cupboard'! She gave us loads of baby items, so DS2 and DIL won't have to find too much money. She included a rocking chair, too! DIL will be thrilled when she sees it all. You should see the state of my house now. We can hardly move! DH is home tomorrow so I think we'll leave organising it until the morning.

F1Widow - we're moving to France! We have had a house there for a few years now and, as DH is finding it very hard to get work at the moment (he's a self-employed building renovator, carpenter, kitchen-fitter and so on), we've decided to move over there, finish doing up the house, sell it and move back here to buy another house. Well, that's the plan. DH would love to stay forever but I don't want to leave the family for very long. We'll see how it goes. It's all happened in a bit of a whirl so I'm panicking on an hourly basis!

I see lots of items to be added to the update tomorrow! I managed to crochet another pair of booties this afternoon and will do some more tonight. Don't forget that my PC is being serviced tomorrow evening; I'll be offline for a while but hopefully for hours rather than days. The chap who is doing it knows I need it up and running for work and so on. I'll remind you all again just before he comes and switches me off!

Well, I've waffled, haven't I? I'm off for a bath now. Hope you all have a great evening.

Shez - how do we sponsor you?

Kathy - tomorrow morning could you please update me with 5 buntings and 6 more aaron squares.

i know that the sleeping bags (buntings) are small, but what really amazes me is that so many are needed. one would think that in a first world country, there are only a few premature births.

anyway - if anyone has any patterns that are that easy to knit, let me know and i will give them a bash.

shelly - i will get a parcel off to you on saturday - i want to make sure that i have 16 squares in each of the 3 colours.

    have a lovely evening everyone.

I have just sewn up 16 squares from LCwilson, the blankets are perfect size with these squares so please keep them coming. When Aaron got home today he was shocked by the squares we recieved today and he was sorting them out for me into 16s,

Hi all - Shez, I shall send you a cheque this week - put me down for £5, please. I think it's great that Aaron's squares have taken off. I'll try and get some more done for him. The totals are amazing in such a short time.

DPixie - I read recently that 17% of births in the UK are premature, which I found shocking in this day and age. It seems such a high number, doesn't it? It makes you realise just how needed our little items are.

Well, I'm just about to settle down with some knitting, and prepare to be shocked by tonight's episode of 'Shameless'!

Hi all - loved the meerkat site! Kathy I feel really mean asking you to update me knowing how mad things can get when moving but please can you add 1 hat 5 bibs 4 hedgehogs 1 teddy and 1 chick for me please. Shezmit have just sent off a mixed parcel to you - have included some hedgehogs too - thought you may be able to sell them to help with fundraising?

My first attempt at booties today didnt work out very well at all. I wonder does anyone know any nice crochet patterns for premie baby booties? Although maybe i will try the same pattern again tomorrow sometimes a new day helps.
Kathy - I noticed that the last count was one off and should have been 12 baby hats in total. Could you please add another 6 baby hats please.
Total - 34 baby hats, 1 pair of mittens,5 pairs of baby booties, 6 baby blankets, 1 sleeper sack

    Hi everyone.

Sheyo - don't feel bad! I do the update first thing in the morning (when the house is quiet and I won't get interrupted!). I have got into a system when I do it. It doesn't always work, though; I got Suzyq's numbers wrong yesterday! Prfungi is very kindly working on a proper spreadsheet for the updates so that will help enormously. As it is, please tell me if I get your numbers wrong.

Everyone - with the updates, it really helps that most of you keep an update in your sigs! Thanks also for highlighting your latest items in a different colour! Also, as I have mentioned before, my PC is being serviced this evening so I'll be offline for a while but hope it's only for a few hours!

Suzyq - sorry about getting your figures wrong. I shall correct that in my update this morning. There are some really easy crochet bootie patterns here http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/preemies.html#preemie-booties - some of them take ten minutes per bootie and are so simple to do. I change the sizes by using different sized crochet hooks. Have a look at the rest of the site - loads of lovely patterns!

Well, today we have more boxes to pack. I shall be glad when I've finished sorting and packing all my books. I should be able to run a library in France,
and all my expat friends and family are longing to see what I bring over with me! My DH really wishes I didn't find books so irresistible to buy, especially from charity shops, where they are so cheap - I have five large boxes already with another floor to ceiling bookcase to sort through! A lot of them are reference books, not just novels, so I see them as essential. I won't have charity shops to visit in France (well, I don't think there are any but I'll find out when I've been there a while), and I don't think my French is good enough yet to be able to read a complete novel!

I crocheted another pair of booties last night. I'm not getting much time, what with packing and so on, so 'ten minute' booties are ideal at the moment. Shez - I'll make a start on your teds this evening, too.

Mrs Moneypenny - hope your DS is feeling better today.

    KathyXX

Edited to say that in today's update, I've edited the first bit about Chalky's appeal, to save space, because the update list is getting so long! You've all been knitting and crocheting like crazy and I can't believe the numbers - another 50 items added since the last update! Thank you all so much!

Another thing I wanted to say is that, as Spring is on the way (it didn't feel like it with the howling gale and rain we had here last night!), people will be wanting to work in their gardens. Please don't feel you have to keep knitting at the expense of other things you want or need to do! I've said on here before that we all lead busy lives, and the knitting should fit in around our other commitments. We achieved a lot last summer because the weather was so poor, but, with any luck, the UK will get a better summer this year and people will get more time to spend out of doors. I would hate to think that anyone felt obliged to knit just to keep the totals going. Many knitters dip and out of this, as time allows, and that's how it should be. Any number of items is welcome and valuable, whether it's one hat or a hundred.
