I thought I'd have a go at something other than squares and hats today seeing as I had a little more time to myself. In the end I chose an angel wrap, but had quite a few problems. Confused over some of the terms as it's a US pattern... specifically YO, which I found out should be YF (or at least I think it is). Then one of the rows on the wings was wrong. And to top it off I had no idea how exactly to attach the wings and head.
Anyway, it's finished for what it's worth. The whole thing is about 13.5 inches before the bottom is turned up, so again I'm not sure if it's big enough.

Hi folks I hope you don't mind if I join you on your fantastic thread. I've been looking you over for a week or so & i'm so impressed with you all. You seem such a friendly crowd, obviously very generous and caring. I spend a lot of my "spare" time sorting out my 86yr old Mum's knitted shapes (no other word for them) - trying to get them close to rectangles, for a "blanket" - she has recently taken up knitting again after suffering a stroke 5 years ago - its great to see her happily occupied and focussed (she is suffering from dementia).
I needed to try something a little more constructive so I've started to knit a preemie cardigan and would like to find a local hospital to donate to but will send along to lovinghands if not.
Best wishes to you all

Hi prfungi:hello:
Welcome to our home from home.
I'm pleased that your mum has found an old interest, and it really doesn't matter if a square isn't quite square in the great scheme of things. My mother will be 90 years old in 3 weeks time, but unfortunately she never could knit anything better than a pom pom hat in her whole life. She was very good at embroidery though.
Believe it or not it was my dad who taught me to knit. His mother taught both him and his brother during the depression to keep their minds and hands busy. It came in handy as he and mam had 14 kids :rotfl: . And uncle George was crushed in the mines when he was 15 years old and was severely disabled, but he could knit and crochet the most beautifully delicate christening shawls with 2 ply wool.Totals: 30 Buntings, 2 Gowns, 13 Chalky Squares0 -
Hi all.
Zippitty - thanks for your kind words! I'll add your items when I update tomorrow morning - hopefully, I won't have overslept as I did this morning!
LC Wilson - that is gorgeous, beautifully knitted and such a lovely colour.
Prfungi - welcome to you and thanks for making us your first post on MSE! If you read the very first post on this thread, you'll find all the info you need.
Shezmit on here runs Preemies UK and will tell you which local hospitals in your area are in need of items. You can also send items direct to her as well as to Loving Hands. The knitting must be a great pleasure to your Mum - it's lovely that she can keep occupied and interested in something like that. Knitting is very soothing so I'm sure it helps her a lot.
Well, I've finished the bunting that goes with the pattern I made up BUT I found some mistakes in the pattern itself! I shall amend it and hope that Maytaurus doesn't mind adding the amended version to her great list of links, as well as adding the photo I shall email to her tomorrow!
S-Michaels -the scarf looks lovely - lucky teddy!
Maytaurus - I think we may well have to start up a support group for addictive knitters!
Shezmit - thanks for letting me know the parcels got there. I always do a certificate of posting but it's great to know they've arrived.
Well, my oversleeping this morning made the rest of the day go pear-shaped but I did manage to finish one bunting and alter another that I started off on too big a hook, and that is nearly finished too.
Hope you all have a good evening!

Hi All
Linedancerann, I have sent things to shezmit for preemies made with snowflake -it feels beautiful and like you said, isn't my favourite thing to knit with. I've done hats and buntings with it. the buntings especially look soft and snug.
LCWilson your angel wrap is gorgeous! What a talent.
Still "twiddling" with the crochet (so knitting output has been zero) and have found a hat pattern that is supposed to be EASY so we'll see! Anyway, enough talking about it, I'm off to get started.0 -
1 Angel wrap, 5 Aaron squares for the next update please.Totals: 30 Buntings, 2 Gowns, 13 Chalky Squares0

Good morning everyone and, as you can see, I haven't overslept! I love the early mornings so this is a better start to the day than yesterday!
I'll add my two buntings to today's updates.
Maytaurus -last night I made a little pocket angel from one of your links; my Mum is not too well at the moment so I've made it for her - a sort of guardian angel! It's a lovely pattern so thanks for posting it.
LC Wilson - I'll add your gorgeous angel wrap under 'angel pockets' on the update, if that's OK with you? It's great that your Dad taught you to knit - men can be suprisingly good at needlecrafts, can't they? My father-in-law knits beautiful Fair Isle and also does lovely tapestries, too. He's 6'6" tall with massive hands yet his work is really delicate.
K2tog - I have a crochet pattern for a ten-minute hat which really is quick - I'll find it and post a link for it. It's done in the round so now sewing up - all you need to do is weave in the ends; it's just about the easiest hat pattern I've found. There's also some ten minute booties - I'll try and find those, too.
Tooties - I've added your jumper under 'toddler jumpers' if that's OK with you?
Well, off to do the update in the next post!

PLEASE NOTE: Thanks to everyone for such a good response to Chalky's appeal for the orphanage in Spain. Her SIL has arrived with all our items, and they have been delivered to the orphanage. Chalky has posted some great photos on page 27 of this thread. I think we will have made a big difference to a baby who arrived there with nothing; doesn't it make you feel good?!
