  • knitting does wonderful things for us all doesn't it. i have knitted since i was a child, my mam taught me. It's a hobby I've carried on with in fits and starts over the years, knitting for charity, for friends and for my son. But when he went to uni in october and with a husband who worked shifts, I found it filled my time and occupied my mind. Knitting for charity keeps me occupied and hopefully does some good for those who receive the items. things have changed now though in that my son has given up his uni course and OH has taken voluntary redundancy - so don't spend as much time on my own anymore. But the knitting carries on!!! (well, in between work, housework and linedancing (my other passion).

  • Well you go away for a couple of days and when you come back you have pages of posts to read..........everyone seems to be doing so well too, apart from me

Mioliere / Maytaurus hope the wage settlement was negotiated amicably for the job of publisher - and holiday entitlement, pension rights, bonus etc etc.

Please add 1 (yes thats one) innocent smoothy hat to my total

Made myself a photo album on wooligans site - please don't laugh I am trying my hardest.
Shezmit popped the wee hats into the post yesterday - but being a cheap skate they went economique - likely to take ages to get to you, I won't do any more of the T cosy hats till I hear from you also posted the 2 dog blankets of to loving hands.
I think I have found a lady who is willing to teach me the knitting machine and hope to meet with her tomorrow and see how we get on - that will save me the further searching for the needles and DK wool!

H all; Shazrobo - I'm so glad that things worked out for you when you had your depression. Thanks for your totals - I'll add them to tomorrow's update.

Linedancerann - my Mum taught me to knit when I was about five or six and I took to it straight away. I've knitted on and off over the years for the children, and also to make presents for family. I really enjoy it but wish I had more time - I have my own work which I do from home, but it's quite hard to discipline yourself to work, especially with MSE being so tempting! My DH is also home a lot at the moment because his self-employed work is tailing off, due to the recession, so I don't get a lot of 'me' time. I do try and knit in the evenings but am very good at dozing off as soon as I sit down!

Roamin in the gloamin - Maytaurus has kindly volunteered :rotfl: :rotfl: to do a 24 hour shift, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year, with no holidays (not even Christmas, Easter or Bank holidays:eek: ), no pay, no pension rights and no pay. She's an angel, isn't she?:j AND she says she has no intention of ever retiring so I have made her 'Employee of the Century'!

Well, this afternoon I started crocheting a cardi from a pattern I found on Loving Hands and it's turning out to be quick to make and easy, so I shall be making some more. I have loads of things I want to knit - now, if I could get Maytaurus to do that for me as well...!

Off to look at the new photos on the Wooligans site!

Roamin - your photos are lovely. Plenty of people will want to buy your Innocent Smoothie hats! I love all the colours you have used.

I used to have a knitting machine years ago and used it lots of times but I found I preferred to knit on the sofa and DH wouldn't let me set it up to use while he was watching the TV!

    a) AN ANGEL
    b) EMPLOYEE OF THE CENTUARY

do you keep any gold stars - perhaps a few her way would be in order,
thank you all for saying that the daft IS hats will sell perhaps when I see other hats I will feel a bit better about it all. Till then I am seriously embarrassed (if that's how you spell it). Off to pack stuff to take with me tomorrow for the machine knitting instructions, no problem here with getting it out..........DH is at sea for more than half the year he he

I started the Angel Wrap last night. But I thought US size8 needles were too big to use on 4 ply wool. LCWilson what size did you use?

I felt exactly the same when I started knitting it - in fact I did a few rows and then pulled them out because I was sure there must be a mistake somewhere. Then I tried again, and although it still looked holey I realised it was supposed to be like that to make it more delicate and lacy. It also makes it really soft to the touch.

    Crochet Bunting
Make 34 ch, turn, SC to end, turn
!st and 2nd Rows: 2 ch, SC to end, turn
3rd Row: 2 ch, DC in 1st st, (ch 1, miss next SC, DC in next SC) to end (this gives the holes for the ribbon)
Rep 1st row of 1 SC in each SC, turn, 2 ch, until work measures 5".
Rep 3rd Row (for the ribbon holes), turn
Next 2 rows: 2ch, SC in each SC to end
Next Row: (decrease row) - slip stitch along to cast off 5 sts, SC until last 5 sts, turn
Next Row: 2 ch, SC to end
Repeat last row for a further 3 "until entire piece of work measures 8". Fasten off.
    Sew seam for hood.
If you want, work a couple of rows of SC around the edge of the hood; this gives it a nice finished look. It can be worked in the same colour or a contrast colour.[/FONT]
