Another thing on the shows - while you can see some in London, many (most?) are specific to Vegas...certainly the Cirque shows you cannot see anywhere else in the world...so while you can see a few of the same Vegas shows in London...most you can't...nor can you see them anywhere else in the world.

Plus most UK theatre seating is abysmal compared to the US counterparts...and depending on the exchange rate at the time, Vegas shows can be far less expensive (and on a far more grand scale) than the same show in the UK.

    Hi everyone

This thread is great - I'm going to Vegas for four nights in July as part of a five week trip to the US so I've been dipping in and out of here quite a bit!

Just a quick question, if anyone can advise... We had already booked Treasure Island, £255 for four nights, via Hotels.co.uk. However, I've just clicked through to the Smarter Vegas website, after seeing a link on here, and found a code for booking direct that comes to a total of $264, including taxes. As this would save us about £70 (and has added extras such as resort credit) I'm tempted to cancel our existing booking and use this promo instead. But before I do so, I wanted to check - are there any other fees charged on top, as standard, at check-in/check-out that I should be aware of? (E.g. service charges, or similar.) It would be just my luck that I think I've got a great deal, and then we get stung! ;-)

The Treasure Island website is possibly the least informative ever! And I have done some searching on the forums to see if I could find the answer, but I haven't been able to.

Any advice from you seasoned Vegas travellers would be appreciated!

(PS - I'm not suggesting these fees - if they exist - are particular to Vegas, I'm thinking it would be a US-wide practice, but this seems one of the most helpful and active threads!)

only thing i can suggest is you go through to the 'book it' stage of your TI booking to ensure tax is included in that price... typically, MGM (possibly others) hotel websites initially give you a cost for each night of the stay (and a total), and then you click through to the next screen where it gives you a total, plus the tax, followed by a grand total :)

...also, it may be worth checking the offer you are booking is refundable (just in case anything better comes up) :)

Room tax goes up to 12% on 1st July (up from 9%) - not sure if that's already calculated into the final rate you've seen or not (probably won't make a massive difference anyway)...Treasure Island doesn't have any resort fees - resort fees are on top of the room rates, but are stated in the booking process (though sometimes people overlook them).

I *think* the tax goes up to 12% from 1st July.

Is your hotels.co.uk cancellable? Theyre not usually I dont think.

If it were me, I would use the £255 budget to book either the Wynn or the Venetian offer.....both around $109 midweek from memory.....both with various credits.....you wont regret it.

Excellent, thanks to both of you for such a fast response!

nvh - I went as far as where you needed to put in credit card details, and didn't see anything other than the taxes, but I am just cynical/suspicious lol. I think the offer is refundable, good point though!

ferf1223 - I think the 12% room tax is included, I thought it was 9% and wondered why it seems more than that! And that info on resort fees is very useful, much appreciated. That must be what I had in my head.

    Thanks again both :-)

Sorry I missed your post while I was typing my other reply... Thanks for your reply.

Hotels.co.uk is cancellable with no fees right up until the day before as far as I know, I have cancelled bookings with no problem in the past.

I did consider booking somewhere more expensive with the original budget, but unfortunately as it stands, I haven't got a job to come back to after my trip, so I think I'd rather have the money in my pocket ;)

hotels.co.uk is fully cancellable. i booked my hotels before the currency dipped with them so that if it stayed lower i would have done right, if it has picked up like it has i would cancel and book with hotel directly, slightly cheating i suppose but it worked.
anyone spotted the currency today, jumped 2.5c downwards at the idea of gordon leaving...i was expecting the opposite effect
its started to climb a little now
