I'm heading to Vegas for the first time in September. Ideally i would love to hire a car, however i will be traveliing in my maiden name - my passport has not been updated since my marriage - but my drivers license now has - will this present a problem - ie if i book in my married name as per my drivers licence - will the hire car company require my passport too as additional id?

maybe . it also might cause you a problem at Immigration if the name on your passport does not match what other ID says .

simple solution is to update your passport . i know they rip you off for just changing your name ( we had to pay twice in the space of 4 months ) but at least doing it now , you know you will have your new passport for when you leave .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

I'd also check out CarHire 3000. We booked our first car hire abroad through them last year and others on the board have used them before. You book through them and the actual agent is Dollar. They have a friendly uk call centre and no hidden stuff in their packages.....
Checked rates for 5 nights from Fri 15th May. Convertible = £183 incl sat nav, extra driver and tank of fuel, so you can return without refilling. I've assumed an age of 35 for the driver for the search.

As trets says, it's better to update it. I had all sorts of problems before when I changed my signature, so all my id's had one signature and my passport had another. Had lots of fun when I tried to order my travellers cheques..... :rotfl:

    Stoneman,

That's the hotel we're going to - how was it? The pics look lovely & I have been told good things about it so any tips/need to knows?

It's absolutely beautiful and very close to the beach. They seem to have run the timeshares out of town now
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Thanks for the heads up, I had already checked that site, but the only convertable they show is the PT Cruser(or similar). I would rather walk!!

Also it may be worth noting that a couple of sites I looked at wanted around $700 deposit for a satnav, on top of the $300 for the car. I know they dont take the money, but they hold that amount from your card which wouldnt work for me.
Also I can buy the USA maps for my Tom Tom for £35 and take that!

Hi, just wanted to post and say a big thankyou for all the very useful posts.

Just returned yesterday from vegas and We had an amazing trip, the holiday was a surprise for my wife.

Stayed for 5 nights at the Bellagio in a deluxe fountain view room, which was amazing, both the room and the hotel were unbelievable, so much to say ( which I will do in a new post v soon )

Flew direct with virgin managing to bag a cheap premium economy upgrade both ways just before we left, well worth the money, great leg room and great service on board.

Managed to see Phantom & did a papillon sunset grand celebration canyon trip with champagne lunch and flight back over the strip ( booked this in the uk and saved a fortune )

Once again a big big thankyou for all the very useful tips, I will post a detailed trip report soon, but if anyone wants any tips advice, if I can help i will.

    Matt
  • Does anyone know why the depeche mode tickets are so expensive or if there will be any cheaper tickets released

Glad you had a great time and look forward to reading the full report!

Can I ask how you managed the PE upgrade?
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Matt, appreciate that you're not a big poster so I hope you see this when you do your trip report. Who did you book your canyon trip with?

    Poor bloke: questions, questions!
