play Bejeweled and solitare, as well as edit any photos we take on holiday so that I don't have to do it when we get home.

The ability to play Bejeweled on the plane was one of the ways I talked my husband around to the idea. :) I had not even considered editing holiday photos on the go - that's a brilliant idea! I had thought about dumping them on the netbook as a back-up, but not doing anything with them.

Been looking at a few travel agents, just the adverts in the window and the prices range from 520 to 620 for 7 nights with indirect travel from glasgow. Not sure whether to book now or to wait til later on in the year, are these good deals or not? Other hotels that are available are the luxor and circus circus. Thanks David

I see ferf has advised about getting a quote and then doing your homework, which is spot on.

There are not many on here who advocate a package to Vegas ,it is usually cheaper to DIY, but with the drop in the pound the differences may not be as great as it was. Booking direct with the hotel means paying in dollars but also means you can cancel/amend/find best deals etc.

Have you read page one of this thread on how to find all the deals?

    ps

I dont know how much flights are from Glasgow, but assuming they are £350ish That leaves possibly £400 ish for an hotel (200 x 2) about $600 today, about $85 a night. the lower end hotels like circus circus (not sure about Riviera) can often be had for $30 or less per night.

Has anyone stayed at the Riviera? Been looking at various deals and it always comes out cheapest. Went in there once when i was last there but have no idea what the facilities and rooms are like.

    Hi

Yes me and DH stayed there a couple of years ago. TBH it isn't brilliant, the room was a bit dank and dull but was clean, as was the bathroom. It is in need of a lick of paint in the corridors too.
The buffet wasn't ideal either, and is very pricey for what little choice there is.
I should also say that they are a bit sneaky with the hidden charges. We went in November, and were hammered with an $80 heating bill because we put on the heater at night for a couple of hours max. each day. We also had a phone surcharge of $40 to pay because we used the phone in our room even though we had a prepaid card.
Personally I think (and recommend) the Sahara as it's far nicer than the Riviera. The room was spotless, bright and cheerful and the buffet is very nice. (And the casino is better too ;) ) It is worth spending that little bit extra to stay there instead.
    Hope this helps :D

I'm gobsmacked by the heating charge - that's outrageous!

on the phone charge - most hotels charge even for local/800 calls...it usually says in the info in the room what the charges are...I know at Bally's it's a $1.25 flat fee for the first 20 or 25 minutes then a per minute charge after that - so even if you have a pre-paid calling card, most hotels will charge you to use it through your phone in the room.

And just one more question.I'm seriously considering buying an ARCHOS 7 just incase the seatback entertainment doesn't work. This gives you 10 hours of video playback
I have a portable dvd player but that only has 2 hours of play....even with an additional battery that would only give me 4 hours.
I know the ARCHOS 5 gives you 7 hours of play and you can get a battery life extender thingy wich will give you extra.
How many films would I be able to store on say a 120gb

Bit of info regarding the Archos. If you do get one, to get the best out of it you will need to get the DVR station (to record anything you want off your Sky / Freeview) and a Cinema Plugin (£12.22), which allows you to rip any of your DVDs directly to your Archos. You can also get a 'pack' of 3 plugins for £24, which is better value.

I've got the 605 (older version) and it really is good. I believe the new ones are even better so as long as you know what 'extras' you'll need to buy, you won't be dissappointed. Any more info, just PM me.

    Hope this helps.

That heating bill is shocking, never heard anyone mention a heating bill before.

I think you may be the first person to recomend the Sahara buffet, It has one thing going for it and that is, its cheap. I dont mind it but most buffets in Vegas are better and my wife refuses to go there again. I think the rooms are ok there though, but again the location lets it down. Rooms can be had at the Sahara for $30 so I wouldnt think it was more than the Riviera
