mummy2mygirls & Lalaladybird I stopped ironing 3 1/2 years ago when pregnant with DD1 and haven't bothered doing it since! I find that if I dry clothes on hangers or on the radiators or maiden there's no peg marks and very few creases to iron out. IMO most clothes need ironing 5 minutes after putting them on so why bother? The only exceptions are my DD's "pretty dresses", anything linen (I try to avoid wearing/buying this!) and work shirts/going out tops. My OH is a plumber so no need for starching collars and we hardly go out so I iron about 3 things once a month
Go on, try not ironing, let's start a revolution :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Spent yesterday not cleaning as already done it this week
(except the quick swish around the bathroom). So after nursery I took DD on a "big train"
into Manchester (only 15 mins away) which she loves, it's something we do about once a month. This time I took her to the art gallery (it's free
) and had lunch in a not so money saving Pizza Express, but they do a lovely kids menu and it's a once a month kind of thing (used a 50% voucher though
). We both had lovely time
.
Got her home and gave her prawns and salad for tea (OH and I had a take out later on). DD loves prawns and has them often but just as I was going to bed at 10pm I heard her coughing and then started to throw up for the next few hours. OH moved the spare bed mattress into her room so I could get to her fast, and I actually had a better nights sleep than I've had in ages due to me not being woken up by OH moving about so much in his sleep  . DD is fine this morning and have kept her occupied with watching Nemo
.
So all I've done is a load of washing and I'm having a bit of me time as OH has taken DD up to see Nanna for an hour.
Hope everyone has a lovely happy and productive weekend0 -
I have stopped ironing bedding and pj's and that helps but iron what else is creased, it helps to hang straight away.
I got up at 6, ON A SATURDAY..shocking, but i ironed, and did all dailies by 8.30 and began sorting the photos pile of pics from 2 years ago, all need to be put in order and in albums before next baby, i will do a bit whenever i am free.tried making homemade tomato soup but it was too oniony for everyone, anyone got good recipe?Really need to get breadmaker used again too...its just collecting dust at the moment!
....regarding home shopping...it does put you off when you get a bad item, but you can get refunds, and i use free delivery codes so its saving a lot of time and energy right now(especially lifting DD into trolley when pregnant)
Potty training DD is not going well, we had no2's in pants today and not a word from her LOL..giving it a few more days then may give up until next week, i need to go out at some point!!!!
We have rediscovered jacket potatoes in our house, by doing then in oven not microwave and they are much yummier, thats tea tonight, nice and easy!!!:D0 -
I don't iron. Its a swear word in this house! I have enough to do without finding another stupid amount of hours to press clothes each week.
Okay, very, very, very occasionally I do, but I tumble dry everything and as long as you get it out promptly and hang/put away fast, then most things do not need it.0 -
Hi ladies.
Is it too late to join up? I've only just found you!
How do I bookmark this thread so I can keep coming back to it?
I want to do everything lalalaladybird (?is that right?) wants to do. I NEED TO PLAN!!!!
I want to write a menu plan and stick to it. Go for a walk every day to the shops for bread/milk/fresh veg etc.
More of a routine for 21 month old instead of taking it as it comes.
Make Housework a pleasure not a chore (!)
Oh yes, and internet usage to a minimum - as a little daily treat with a cuppa when naptime comes :AJune 2009 - Wii; December 2009 - Fortnum & Mason Hamper; 2009 - Little Red Tractor DVD; How to afford time off work book; April 2010 - Mamas & Papas Pram; May 2010 - Imperial Leather Goodies; Jan 2011 - Trivial Pursuit cards; Narnia goodies; VTech cot mobile (stopped comping!) Nov 2011 - Kiddicare cotbed.0 -
WELCOME hotbern, no not too late to join, I'll add you to our list.
No ironing! Hmm, I suppose I could give it a go :undecided
Rippedoff3...your jacket potatoes sound yummy, I think I'll try doing them in the oven again:)
mOZzy....If I can twist OHs arm we'll go tomorrow but as he hates it we may not  I really feel like buying some good storage stuff that we'll be able to use for years so it will be an investment....at least that's how I'll put it to OH;)0 -
Am I the odd one out then? I love doing the ironing......although it is a bit more painful at the moment what with the pelvic pain and all. I do sit down on the sofa to do it if things are particularly sore. And I've got problems with varicose veins so can't stand (or sit) for long.
I gave up yesterday afternoon and went to have a lie down on the bed...next thing I knew it was 6.30pm. I knew I was tired, but didn't realise quite how tired. Good job OH was working from home and could keep an eye on DD.
Consequently, the kitchen was a complete bombsite this morning as I got out of step with the dishwasher/cleaning, but I have managed to bring it under control again today. Talking of which, we were woken by a small child informing us that as it was light it was the morning and what were we still doing lying in bed...!! This was 9.15 and we'd overslept...
Had a good day though, been to the dump with a car load of stuff from the garden (best not to ask!), sourced some great value potatoes (£6.50 for a 25kg sack), been to charity shop with two, yes, count them, two bin bags of donations, done two loads of washing, and OH sorted out a load of his bits and pieces that had been 'waiting' to go to the shed.
We're also off to Ikea next Sunday for DDs furniture - if not to buy them all, to at least have a good look before ordering online. Has anyone been to the Milton Keynes branch? If so, is it any good? We usually go to the Bristol one...
Rippedoff3: I know exactly where you're coming from with lifting DD into the trolley - mine's a good 15 kg and I'm finding it very hard to lift her too....and I'm finding the shop too challenging in general - my plan is to get a little more organised so that Mr Tesco can deliver to me. I'm currently 30w+3 (baby due in March), how far along are you?
Right, that's me off to rescue tea (jacket potatoes today)....have a good evening all, and remember to put your feet up too!
Take care

that sounds just like me - stopped ironing 4.5 years ago after having ds!- if i take it out straight from the t/d still warm, just a shake and ready to fold!
and i only iron dd's pretty dresses too
i am in on the revolution
rippedoff same here with potty! dd is happy with wee's but will refuse doing any nr.2!! she says she's scared????
jacket potatoes mmmmmmmm - i start them off in the microwave, then put some cheese on top and finish them in the oven [yummy]
welcome hotbern :hello: - internet a minimum?? that doesn't sound right
don't overdo it from the beginning or you tire yourself out too quickly!
lalabird happy ikea'ing tomorrow :rotfl:0 -
Done most of the things I need to do for the day, I still need to unload and reload dishwasher, and a quick tidy round.
DD has just gone to bed so I'm having a rest. She is a bit grizzly today with a cold so she has been very clingy so not had much time to do anything properly- just rushed through!! Poor little chick!
I'm from MK and the Ikea is great!! I can nip in when I need something I love it. I always used to have to go to birmingham or london! Talking of Ikea I also need a storage cupboard for DD room, the ones that have the plastic boxes in to sort all their toys out! Won't have time until next weekend now!
I'm in on the non ironing revolution! I used to iron everything but it was only cos I lived in a small town in Devon and was so bored all the time
I can't be bothered now, although ironed clothes are much nicer. I also will iron DD pretty dresses, although we went to a party a few weeks ago and the hem of her nice cotton dress was sticking up. I couldn't even think where the iron was it's been so long since I used it, so I got my hair straighteners on it!! They worked a treat!0
