mOZzy - I have two lists on the fridge - one is the menu plan for the week, the other is the defrost schedule for the week - so I just have to look at it and see "Wednesday - beef mince" to know to take it out. Of course, last night I wasn't feeling well, and just completely forgot about it. grrrr

That is a really great tip. Hope you are feeling better xx

Aaaaaargh....every time I sit down for 5 minutes on the comp my dd starts pawing at me and crying....what is this all about?
  • I'll try again :rotfl:

You are all doing so well, I am loving reading about your days :T

I have a good system for keeping the house clean and tidy now which is working really well BUT all my good intentions to get everything behind cupboards and drawers organised are not happening :o During my daughters waking hours I am constantly on the go with her, during her naps I use the time for myself to come on the comp, read or relax. I probably should use this time to get stuff done but I feel like I need this time to myself to stay sane :rotfl:When she goes to bed at 7pm I clean the kitchen, do the ironing etc and spend some time with OH before bedtime. When do I fit in the stuff I want to get done like ...

Boxing up her clothes into 0-3m, 3-6m etc
Sorting and cleaning the kitchen cupboards (really not looking forward to this one but it needs to be done)

Last night I was so tired after I got her to bed I couldn't bring myself to order the shopping online, forcing myself to get things done has worked so far  but tiredness always wins

I wish I could have one day a week by myself to do things. Is it unrealistic of me to think I can be as organised as I want to be when I have a one year old with me 24/7? Can you sense that I am feeling a bit harassed today LOL

lalaladybird. Your post made me think. The bit about you trying to find the time to fit everything in.

There are more important things in life than clean cupboards. It is impossible to schedule into 24 hours time for children, housework, time for yourself, time for the pets, time for your OH, time for relatives, getting the other stuff done, cooking then eating, washing, sleeping. Doing it for one set of 24hours is a flippin hard task, so therefore it cannot possibly be replicated every 24hrs. It cannot all be done.

Then the irony is we actually beat ourselves up over it when we cannot do the impossible!

You have (and lots of other posters) a wonderful child and you should be spending time with her. And it is more difficult when they are a year or so old. My youngest is only one month - with him its easy. All he does is eat sleep and poo. If I put him down, he stays still and I do not need to constantly watch him. With older babies, you have to do this stuff! They wander, they touch, they chew and life is more hectic in general.

I am starting to ramble here!

I think that what I am trying to say is that its not a competition. We compare ourselves to the "anthea houswives" of this world and compare our homes to the prisitine finished articles on DIY SOS and other housey programs. Then we realise we actually have lives! Real ones that don't conform. If we are able to do the impossible, then great - its not bad. But NOT doing the impossible is not bad either.

Set the tasks on a smaller scale. Smaller jobs and just one at a time. Take time for coffee and chocolate. Then have more chocolate.....

Didn't have time to post- too busy (and got distracted by the pink shoes for a 4 yr old thread! :) )

I did all my dailies yesterday and managed to clear a hotspot (the nappy table) It is a sideboard in my house where we keep all our washable nappies, but as we have a few sorts it gets into a muddle then we see that as an excuse to dump anything baby related on there! Phew! It's tidy now- for a day at least!

Spent lot's of time with DD doing fun stuff though it's hardly a chore! I tend to spend only 1 hour max on chores in the day as I just want to get on with the fun stuff. Most day's I try n do it all in the evenings but this isn't fun as I'm so tired by then! Can't win really- let's be honest there is never a good time for housework.

Keep it up everybody! Sounds like your all doing well!

Oh dear, my Vicar of Dibley box set has arrived, I feel that any progress I have made might be slowed down over the next couple of days ...

  • Me too please!!

I already meal plan and I've got a spreadsheet that runs to the end of 2009 so I know exactly where I am with my money at all times, but I need to get more organised on the housework front and activities with the little ones.

I iron when the kids are in bed on Sundays, Tuesdays & Thursdays and wash up, but I need to get some kind of system in for cleaning and hoovering as its definately more 'firefighting' at the moment (great expression!).

Must go, DS is playing in his bedroom and DD is asleep, so I guess I should be doing something!
