Cheap o2 Broadband: 20 Mbps Unlimited package for £5.17/month

Ordered standard 8Mbps on 4th Jan. Everything delivered and running today 8th Jan.
Quidco tracked at £70
PERFORMANCE:
Mbps = mega bits per second
KB/s = kilo bytes per second
MB/s = mega bytes per second
8 bits = 1 byte
so 8 Mbps = 1 MB/s
Previously I had Virgin/NTL Cable Modem @2Mbps. The fastest speed was approx 250KB/s.
O2 Broadband checker told me I could get up to 18Mbps. I chose the 8Mbps package. I tested the speed today and got over 1MB/s
INSTALLATION NOTES:
Basically don't use the filter before a telephone extension lead if you connect your O2 router to this lead, it will filter out the ADSL signal and seriously reduce the speed.
Set up as below if you use an extension lead.
BT landline socket -> telephone extension lead -> filter -> telephone & O2 router0 -
I've spent all morning (and part of the afternoon!) trying to sign up for this via Quidco.
I got as far as stage 3 in the O2 sign up process; (sending my personal details, MAC key etc. after having a signup code sent to me by text) and, after clicking on the "continue" button, I'm directed to a web page with this message:
"There's something wrong with our system at the moment. We're really sorry - please try again later." I've been trying and trying and, as the deadline for the £70 cashback is tomorrow, it looks as though some of us will miss out on the cashback because O2 has "something wrong" with their system; unless, of course, the cashback deal will be honoured regardless!! Well, I can dream!0 -
Apologies; I've just noticed the posts saying that the deadline is now 11th January!
There's still some hope then...0 -
Hi Thanks Sallysaver
I ordered it around 8.30, I have an email confirming from O2. But quidco no tracking yet.

As long as you are sure you did the whole transaction through Quidco, I don't think you will have a problem but keep you eye on it. I hope it turns out well for you. Sally0 -
Registered with O2 BB (via quidco) on Tuesday AM, received the router yesterday.
The order appears on Quidco (payment expected in March)0 -
My o2 broadband is free for a year
8meg line and unlimited usage. Switched to them after it was offered with my last o2 upgrade. Only been with them for a couple of weeks, but connection is good and wireless signal strength is better than the BT homehub we had before, definately quicker.
Same here, free for a year then 7.50 great, I was free on my mobile all last year and they still owe me £40 of the cashback. I have now switched to simplicity £10 a month (150 minutes, 300 texts) so I won't be paying anytning for 4 months. I don'y know how they make a profit'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Hi.
Allthatmularky,
I'm sorry, I've done it again!:o I realised when I had to type my own username in to find my post. I'm mainly a lurker. The last time I posted in the wrong place, someone kindly moved it for me because I didn't know how to.
Yes, I do have BB. I'll give them a ring first for my MAC code. They might make me an offer too.
I'll also start using the number for the cheaper calls from tommorow.
Thanks for replies.

I've contacted Quidco about when their £70 cashback offer on O2 Broadband expires and they confirmed as follows:
"Thank you for your enquiry. The £70 offer is currently set to expire at 11:59pm on the 11th of January 2008. There is no further extension of this offer as yet. Kind regards Steve, Quidco"
Now shows £25 as of Sat 10 Jan
Nice one Quidco - thanks for not bothering to tell peaple when an offer will expire and many thanks for not replying to my enquiry email sent 12:44 on 9 Jan regarding this matter0
