Auction to raise funds for death row dogs

yes, Hethmar, my mums dog is not a pedigree (rescue lurcher x), but she looks very much like an Ibizan hound - striking and very, very elegant, with amber eyes - she regularly gets stopped by people asking her if she is going to breed her etc, and has attracted a lot of interest from random people (both lurchers and terriers are very popular with certain people looking to sell them on for working) - she has now decided to put 'neutered and chipped' on her tag to make it clear to anyone 'eyeing her up' that she is no use for breeding. (of course it is easier to spot if a lad has been done!)0

Yes, thats right fc, there were lurchers stolen round here and one was seen jumping off the back of a travellers open van (and hence "saved" from a possibly awful fate). Its pointless telling the police, they seem scared to do anything. As you say, it seems to be hunting type dogs or the very expensive rare breeds that get stolen.0

Im not so clever as to know about how to link posts from other sites so if someone can show me, I will do my best.
But just as one example of the down side of chipping, on the Perforums website there is a post on there about the reaction her dog had to a microchip under the health section. I know...not the same as cut out chips, but a down side to chips none the less.
Im not saying that dogs are stolen for resale or for breeding...they are often stolen just for being an expensive dog to buy in the fist place.
And the chips are easily felt. I cant comment on anyone else feeling the chips but I can feel them in all my daughters cats and her dog, in my MILS dog and in my friends dog.
The point I was making about children was people continue to keep having children even though there are hundreds in care....why?
Because people want what they consider their own child or their own dog. However much you try, a dog from rescue will always be someone elses dog to many many people.
I also repeat that I feel rescue centres do a very worthwhile job and I applaud their sentiments of never putting healthy animals to sleep.....but also feel that they are there own worst enemies at times because of the rules they have, the fees they charge and the time restraints they place on people taking an animal.0 -
I agree some rescues have silly rules & understand about people wanting their own, but I think really children & pets aren't the same, a child is yours by blood/dna/genetics whatever, wheras a pet isn't, iyswim. I'm not sure why you can feel the chips, I don't even think Vets can, were they done at the same place? Maybe they don't insert it deep enough? Not sure really? lol
To do a link, just click on the address bar at the stop of the page you want to show, it'll highlight it, then right click & select copy, then over where you type the message on here hit Ctrl & V at the same time to paste it here & it'll show.
I HAVE heard of reactions to chips, but rarely. I guess it's like Vaccinations, I had one cat develop a small lump after hers which went, but the rest (20+) have had no issues. It's so unlikely & even if they do probably not severe enough to not chip. The chances of a reaction compared to the Dog being lost/stolen is tiny IMO0 -
