  • some rescuers are really funny with there questions and tell you to do realy hard stuff that is to hard for some poeple todo. i have a good home for a dog and spent ages lookng for a rescuer where i can buy a dog from but it was so hard. i had to phone up a few near me, how am i supposed to go on a bus for 14 miles with akk the perople who live here and with my other pets to,? coz that is what i had to do for one.that is difficupt for me to do but i dont mind, i just cant. thanks for saying i am a bad pet owner,

Owing a pet can be hard work - if you cant do the 'really hard stuff' the rescuers ask of you, such as making a 14 mile bus journey (or shell out for a taxi) how would you cope if the dog was ill and needed to see a vet, or a specialist that was not local?

How would you cope with the 'hard work' that most dogs can be for time to time - its hard work when you have to go outside every 30 minutes to tiolet train a pup, its hard work when they chew everything in sight, or bark whe they are left alone - these are all big challenges, and if you are not prepared to do some 'really hard stuff' then I think its best to reconsider whether a dog is the pet for you.

do you often condescend people,? i know looking after a dog is hard work at times. i have a dog and some other animals which i look after perfectly, but i would be williung to have another dog to save it from rescue but cant get on a bus to go to the rescuerers with all my other animals and all the people who live here too. its not very practical is i,? i dont have to take all my animals and family with me when i go to the vets do i. or i dont have to take them all on walks with me do i,? i dont have to take the familyy with me to training class do i,? you are silly to think that it is easy to go on a bus with all that. the recuer says every person and animal in the house must go to the place. stupid!
  • I have never heard any rescues specify that you must take your entire family and every animal on the bus..

... but it would be sensible to ask you to bring any other dogs in and key people in the family to meet the dog and see how they interract together before a dog is homed - is this what you mean?

There is another thread on here where a couple are rowing about whether to have their cat treated by the vet or not - the bloke clearly is not all that keen on having pets at all - it is better for the rescue to suss this out at the start than to have animals returned when there is a problem.

Oh just seen your are in Southport - Sass, the animal artist lives there :)

Hi hethmar, I have only just spotted this, that is interesting. Does she have any portraits on display in this area?

I hope the auction went well. :-)

you dont knoe so many rescueres then do you,? that is what imean. so tell me how i can do that when it is too hard for me. take everyone on the bus is so stupid. I can take in my husband but you can tell me that the rescuers are good enough people to read problems that might occur in the future between couples.? no you cant say that because they are not able to prodict the future. i cant get a rescue dog so i would have to get another dog from a breeder.

Bilberry, she works from home - she said she had distributed some posters advertising round Southport in groomers and so on but not received a lot of interest so far. She has her website which gets most of her work I think. Im surprised really as Southport is a bit posh, isnt it - Id have thought a few ladies wot lunch would have like a dog portrait.

I gave the total higher up for the auction - over £1500.

Very well done to all those who supported the auction, I hope to participate next time, and hopefully swell the funds a little.

Southport posh? sadly, although it has many things to recommend it, it aint what it used to be. We were quite shocked when a taxi driver (just after we moved here) told us how rough he considered Southport to be. I suppose too, that like many other towns throughout the land, this recession is not helping it either.

I don`t actually live in Southport itself, but in a small village outside it. I am pretty much housebound at the moment so rarely get out, except for a trip to the beach, where we able to drive on and park (the dogs love that). Although my daughter works in Southport and knows Lord Street fairly well, we don`t know a great deal of the area. We are originally from the Peak District.

I must have a look at at the website for SASS, do you have a website address please?

The rustic beanie hat I won arrived this morning - its gorgeous, much much nicer than I imagined from the photo on the auction. K9 knitters made it - they are volunteer knitters who make jumpers for dogs, donate hundreds of them to rescues and also will make them to measure for your own pet. Wonderful people, renews your faith, doesnt it.

If anyone knits - K9 usually supply the wool and stuff to you.

I think I put Sass's website further up this thread Bilberry. Ill just look. My mother in law was from Liverpool. She was always going on about if she won the lottery shed buy a place in Southport :) May be its changed since her youth.

Southport used to be very posh, even when we came here when my children were young 25 years ago, it used to have some very exclusive shops. I suppose things constantly change, and whilst it still has a nice feel to it along the prom and Lord Street etc, it no longer has that exclusive feel.

Several shops have closed down, the beaches are now being covered in grass, the funfair has gone. From reading the local papers, it seems the locals are complaining about the state of the beaches whilst others seem to think they should be allowed to become places for birds and twitchers. There is also a sort of travelling fair where the funfair used to be apparently.

Two new swish hotels have opened recently, so perhaps they will be successful. The sea wall and millennium bridge are really lovely too.

There seem to be a lot of people round here who have a scouse accent, indeed Southport is now in Merseyside, some locals would prefer that they weren`t.

My Mum and her siblings were born in Liverpool too. Actually, generations of us seem to move back and forth between the Peaks and Merseyside.

Sorry if I have sent you to sleep. :-)

I will scroll back and look for the website address, thanks.
