Auction to raise funds for death row dogs

Dont know Kimberley. I think its a general attitude in consumer society - their feelings can only be shallow and they want a new model come a new year. Life has little value to them - I was listening on the radio to a chap who had written in a newspaper (one of the broadsheets) that he had released his hamster into the wild because it had bitten him. Now the guy and the interviewer were obviously finding it amusing that people had actually protested about this article - and I thought it just typifies peoples attitudes, that a life is worthless. To me every little life deserves respect and care - thats our job as humans to ensure that they receive this care - laughing about what no doubt was a painful death of a tiny creature either starving because he didnt know how to forage, or being abused by people or eaten by another animal, is just so typical of the shallowness of people nowdays.
BTW FC and Lily - the elderly staffie modelling that coat belongs to one of the volunteers (who has another 4 dogs). She was a poundie some years back and had some horrendous problems - dear little soul getting on now but still living life in comfort and dignity with a loving owner.
That's terrible! I have six Rats & one is known to nip, not sure if it's cause she's red/pink eyed & they don't see as well, but IF she gets me then it's NOT HER fault but MINE for not keeping an eye on where she is or whatever. I know she's like it & am always careful, even her nips hurt!
If she ever took a chunk out of me & did it in a nasty way (Right now it's not her being nasty) then I could NEVER release her! If she was ok with her cagemates i'd just be very careful around her as I am anyways, if it wasn't working i'd rather her be PTS than released! I can't believe some people!0 -
Just to update on Waffel the 14 year old terrier. The owners have been found and were told where to collect her - they have appeared to think thats rather inconvenient for them and havent turned up:mad:0

What he hell is wrong with some people! If they went on Dog Pages I bet they could organise help to get her! If it was Chaya i'd make sure she got back to me!
Have even thought about having her tattooed, what do people think? I heard it can be altered to easily like added too etc?0 -
If Waffle was my little old doggy - I would walk, bus, taxi whatever, to go and fetch her, rather than leave her in kennels.
Lets hope her owners have just had some sort of problem today and will come and get her....0 -
Lily, racing greyhounds have an ear tatooed - thats why they are often found stray and earless.0

The best bet if you want to put a tatoo on is on inside of rear leg, still can be changed but better than the ear.Better still is the dog implant tag thing as this cant be removed0

I wonder why the death of three cats caused by a dog has generated so much interest on another thread here, but the potential death of these dogs, caused by humans has generated so little?
Personally, I think we are a bit skewed in our thinking here - you can't really expect a dog to 'know' better, and dogs chasing cats is not new.
However, I think its really a shocker that humans are still killing dogs (and for no good reason - we dont eat them, these are not dangerous animals).
We are sentient fully thinking animals wth a moral framework and conciences - and yet still we accept this??
Why are we so outraged about these three cats death whilst being so complacent about the death of pound dogs, bred by humans and abandoned by humans??0 -

Excellent point there FC, I wish more people would help the pound dogs & i'd foster or adopt more dogs if Chaya liked them & I had the money & space! I will be doing that kennel for a day thing tho!0 -

Thanks, she has a microchip but I hear about them migrating & scanners not picking them up, or rather the people scanning can't find them & I really don't want her to end up lost, I don't think she'd be stolen being a mongrel but I don't want her back in kennels!
I also don't want to tattoo her if it could be altered or isn't worth doing, I don't even know if dog wardens & such check legs for tattoos, i'm guessing not.0 -
We do have an odd attitude towards animals (and kids) in this country - veal in crates got the middle england brigade out protesting in droves a few years ago, whilst staffies and mongrels in the pounds are ignored.
Tigerlilly - I dont think Chaya will lose you, and that if she was picked up by the dog warden a tag and chip is generally enough to return her, but even if her tag had gone and her chip was missed, you would be on the phone to the dogwarden anyway and could identify her!0
