As a very responsible Akita owner,I must admit I do get fed up of the bad press about what I would call a tiny minority of akita owners and I do agree that this kind of dramatisation does not help the breed, yes unfortunately some of the breed don't get on with cats, but mine has been brought up with then, and as I have said previously, this research should be done before getting certain types of dogs,my OH and I were months reaserching the breed and visiting breeders before we decided on our girl, therefore it went with the territory that we had to provide a secure area for her before she arrived with us.

Nevertheless, she has been properly socialised and we can take her anywhere, she loves meeting people and fuss, from other dogs/cats/humans,she is used to this,we didnt want to bring up a large dog to have behavioural problems.

As for the weight issue and control,my dog is nearly as heavy as I am,and is so disciplined,a squeek out of me is all she needs to be brought under control if she gets excited, there are certainly far smaller dogs in my village that worry me behaviour wise, one is a very aggresive bull terrier, my dog can't stand its growling,My girl is definately not a fighter, puppy training, discipline and some common sense is what is required, but at the start!!

I'd love to show you all my beautiful girl, who really does stop traffic, but I don't know how to load up photos anyone help??

We'd love to see her! Assuming you already have the photos on your PC, google Photobucket & open an account, then you'll see the upload button. When you click browse/upload it'll let you find the pics & they'll appear on your photobucket page.

Underneath them, click once on the IMG/bottom link, it'll say copied. Then paste it into your message! If you have trouble, PM me your e-mail address & i'll do it for you x

    I'm so angry reading this......

Not sure if this was aimed at me, the OP or both but did you not read my second sentence?! To be frank, a cat isnt really under control if it insists on jumping up and scratching other peoples cars - car is parked on MY property - its a cats instinct is it? Well its a dogs instinct to go for a cat! Just to clarify - in no way am i saying its OK for the dog to get out and kill a cat or any other animal, but if its on her property then you gotta have some sympathy in that respect for the OP.

The clue is in my first sentence

"Look at her response to this"

Did you not read my sentence:rolleyes:

You will see all along I have said she is blameless for the first cat killed, but I have NO respect for her, as she learnt nothing from it & now allows it out on its own to carry on killing other peoples pets.

omg she's gorgeous! What's her colour called? And her name? I think Akitas are beautiful dogs but not the right breed for me, however a woman in the village has one that cuddles her kitten! I'd be frantic with worry if my dog escaped & i'm sure you would too, I so hope the OP gets this sorted & I was sympathetic to begin but now people have pointed out the smilie things etc well, not so much now.

I think your dog's stunning I really do!

  • Thanks, for your lovely comments, I think she is,but I'm biased,we have been told by lots of dog breeders that we should show her,but shes my girl and our pet,and I dont think she'd like it,she's a country girl!! Shes a pinto akita, thats her colour way and her name is Daisy!!
