padded bras for 7yr olds in BHS

I don't think it's about a child or their parents wanting to hide the nipples from a pervert but I remember back to when I wanted to start wearing a bra and it was more to do with the boys at school being able to see nipples through my school shirt and my embarassment at this and my developing body. All young girls go through this. Mind you I remember their was this one girl at my school who was a really early developer but her mum didn't agree with bras etc.. In PE she used to be on the trampoline jumping with her massive breasts bouncing all over and even the teacher used to have a good perv!!0

But minnie, would you expect a 7 year old child to be self concious about nipples showing and wanting to wear something to cover them up? I have to be honest, I cannot accept this is the norm. They can only get these feelings from adults making an issue of it as they still have no ideas of their bodies at that age. At the age of 9 or 10 yes, I can understand that, but not at the age of 7. Children can wear vests and also, many schools now have Polo shirts as an option so they are not as light and see through. This is what my kids wear. What I am saying is that children of age 7 are not concious unless someone has made them concious, they are still children and blissfully unaware of stuff such as nipple showing through clothing - and so they should be too.
Something I found interesting BTW, when I first started selling the Royce bras 5 years ago there was a picture of a girl wearing the bra, when I got the link from the site (i've not sold Royce for a couple of years) now there is a dummy wearing the bra on their website and the girl fully clothed smiling in the picture above it.0 -
I agree blue_monkey. We are talking about primary age children and most wear polo shirts. Maybe we could stick to the OP.I like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet.;)0

I think again then that it's the labelling of the bras being sized in ages that is the problem. They could still be sold in the same store section but labelled as 28AAA upwards etc.. Because just because it's labelled age 7 doesn't mean it will fit only 7 year olds. This would seem to solve the problem. (28AAA was the first sized bra I had - basically concave size haha)0

No, I don'y buy that at all. If it is labelled for a 7 year old it is for a 7 year old. If I buy a top for a 6 year old I look at the age 6's, not age 10's as she is not 10. If it is aimed at a pre-teen 28AAA then it should be labelled as such and kept in the lingerie section. It has nothing to do with labelling in my opinion, a label is on the garment as this is the age is is desgined to fit. Most teens that are just starting to grow so need a bra do not have bodies the same as a 7 year old.0

I have just returned from M&S after getting my daughter measured to see if she needed a first bra (she is 9) She is normal build for a 9 year old, but lately has complained of her breast area hurting, and when she wears her school blouse (Polo's not allowed) you can see the slight formation of breast buds. I have deterred this moment for about 3 months, but assured by a friend of mine, I went along, the lady was very helpful, and said that at 32 AA she could benefit from a starter bra, she found a pack of 2 2 Star Print First Bras
£9.50
Product Code: T339100
These are not padded but also do not lie flat, other girls in her class do not wear bra's, so she does not want to wear it for school, she will stick with her vests until someone else gets one, I have in no way forced my daughter to this, and she is not asking for one because others have them, she felt uncomfortable sometimes, and I think I have acted responsibly by treating her with respect, and I agree that padded bras labelled for 7 year olds is disgusting, but M&S sell padded bras sets to for 28 AA, but this is for the older girls that require them. Underiwred bras are a no no, as the can distort breast tissue.Sam:happylove0 -
I read some shop was selling childrens knickers with the words DIVE IN! on them!
That was Asda, and believe me it was the over reaction of the year. The knickers were "High School Musical" and anyone who has seen the graphics for the merchandise will know that there are various phrases written in a crayon like font, one of which is "Dive In". Unfortunately the clothing features the same crayon writing and the phrase was misconstrued when added to the knickers.
"Dive in" is written on most of that style HSM merch, from Duvets and curtains to litter bins and photo albums. Unfortunately it didnt transfer well to the underwear lol0 -

I think perhaps the manufacturers ought to have realised pants with the words Dive In weren't going to go down well but before people start leaping up and complaining they also need to look at the contexts of these things and in this case this was a massive over reaction to the word Dive In on a pair of pants which were essentially HSM pants, and the logo was everywhere else. I am guessing the words have no sexual connotations what so ever.
What is it with attitudes to sex in this country that we sex and sexualisation everywhere when there really isn't any at all?
I can't comment on the OP because I haven't seen the bras. I am sure if people want them they will buy them, if they don't then they won't buy them and the shops won't sell any so will stop stocking them (if they even exist). Why do we have to complain about things. The same with things on the TV you don't like, it has an off switch, so use it.
Someone at work was recently complaining out the program 'I am a celebrity' and the Ollie Ollie song as several kids at school were singing it. They were saying TV shouldn't be showing things like that, until I pointed out that the program was on after 9pm and the children who were 9 or 10 should have been in bed by then anyway.
The point I am making is we are all capable of censoring ourselves and our children and I get fed up of so called do-gooders who try and censor everyone else. A bra for a 7 year old has nothing to do with paedophiles. A paedophile will sexualise a child just because they are a child I am afraid and in my experience of working with children most children who suffer this kind of abuse do so at the hands of someone they already know and trust. A bra will not encourage a paedophile tbh, just being a child is enough to encourage them (sorry)
Seriously folks, get a grip on the outrage. No wonder we have the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Europe. The rest of Europe doesn't seem as ashamed of their bodies as us Brits seem to be. It still seems to be a case of 'No sex please, we are British' these days :-(
