padded bras for 7yr olds in BHS

I think perhaps the manufacturers ought to have realised pants with the words Dive In weren't going to go down well but before people start leaping up and complaining they also need to look at the contexts of these things and in this case this was a massive over reaction to the word Dive In on a pair of pants which were essentially HSM pants, and the logo was everywhere else. I am guessing the words have no sexual connotations what so ever.
What is it with attitudes to sex in this country that we sex and sexualisation everywhere when there really isn't any at all?
I can't comment on the OP because I haven't seen the bras. I am sure if people want them they will buy them, if they don't then they won't buy them and the shops won't sell any so will stop stocking them (if they even exist). Why do we have to complain about things. The same with things on the TV you don't like, it has an off switch, so use it.
Someone at work was recently complaining out the program 'I am a celebrity' and the Ollie Ollie song as several kids at school were singing it. They were saying TV shouldn't be showing things like that, until I pointed out that the program was on after 9pm and the children who were 9 or 10 should have been in bed by then anyway.
The point I am making is we are all capable of censoring ourselves and our children and I get fed up of so called do-gooders who try and censor everyone else. A bra for a 7 year old has nothing to do with paedophiles. A paedophile will sexualise a child just because they are a child I am afraid and in my experience of working with children most children who suffer this kind of abuse do so at the hands of someone they already know and trust. A bra will not encourage a paedophile tbh, just being a child is enough to encourage them (sorry)
Seriously folks, get a grip on the outrage. No wonder we have the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Europe. The rest of Europe doesn't seem as ashamed of their bodies as us Brits seem to be. It still seems to be a case of 'No sex please, we are British' these days :-(

Hmmm, a complaint about complaining!
Can't say I agree with you, no we shouldn't have to worry about the over sexulaisation of children but until you have witnessed how sexual abuse can really screw someone up and how rife it is, you really wont feel quite as strongly against it.
The worry- or one of my worries is, that children who have no real understanding of what they are getting themselves into or what they are "saying" by wearing a padded bra for example, can be an easy way for someone to take advantage, weather its kids playing with kids, or adults who are not mature enough to realise a kid is not a sexual object (or worse, one that does realise but goes ahead anyway).
No its not OK that we have to safeguard children against such people, but this is the real world, how many parents do actually keep their children tied to their apron strongs (as suggested by the paedophile Robert Black as the only way to protect your children against paedophiles), how many teachers know exactly what kids do on their break times? Few I'll bet, and that is just the way it should be. See, if you want kids to have the freedom they're entitled to, you either have to explain to them and prewarn them about things like this (and scare them half to death) or protect them, one of the ways to do this is to ensure they do dress their age.
You seem to think this is just complaining to complain, but in actual fact, there is a real issue here. I think that if you cannot see that, you are either very lucky not to have seen how child sexual-abuse on such a wide scale (much of which is blamed on the child themselves for being provocotive ?!!!), or you really have not thought your answer through.0 -
i think the concern is that 1. some parents probably will buy these for their children and 2. these kind of products are sending a message to young children about sex which is completely inappropriate0

How can you say you are definately going to write when you have not seen the bra yet?
No, I didn't say that, I said I was going to write after I had visited a store to see for myself. Its the first sentence of my post.
I don't have kids, I am too young myself at the moment. One day though, and I want to ensure my kids when I have them, are protected from over sexualisation until they are old enough to understand exactly what it is and make up their own minds.
I also would recommend Marks and Spencers, and some of the pricier brands which although are costly, do stock tiny sized bras for tiny sized people. You don't have to wear kids clothes then- they are more expensive though so I can see why you would chose to wear kids clothes. Maybe write to BHS and ask them to stop marketing them at small children (cartoons etc) and start marketing them at adults insted (no cartoons or mature-er cartoons).0 -
Wanted to bump this post- Am definetly going to write (after I have visited and seen for myself) although if this is as I think: padded bras aimed at children) very little can change my point of view on this.
Sorry this is what you wrote and it says "Am definately going to write".
Also Bras do not equal sex and a !!!!!! will be attracted to a child whether in a bra a vest a thermal top a crop top or even a baggy coat.0 -

Well we will have to agree to disagree here, I stand by my views and as someone who works with children I am well aware how to safeguard children and don't need further education from you :-)
You automatically assume that I have no experience of having seen anyone suffer from sexual abuse or don't know the effects of this. You are very wrong, but I am not prepared to discuss any of this on a public forum. Every single person I know who has been sexually abused (and it is a fair number) was not over sexualised through the clothes or anything else they wore but they were let down by someone in authority, someone who was supposed to be caring for them or someone abusing their power relationship.
The trouble is paedophilia is no worse than it has ever been (check the probation officers website for facts and figures) but it is more widely talked about and acknowledged and spoken out about, which means more is discovered.
If you don't like the bra in the shop, like anything else consumerist, don't buy it and the shops will soon stop selling it. I am not complaining about complaining merely offering a different point of view. Personally I don't agree with people dressing their kids up in make up and fake tan and parading them round in beauty pageants but if someone wants to do this that is up to them..... I might sit and shake my head at them and ponder their sanity but I am not going to tell them how to live their lives. For me this thin end of the wedge started when parents were told not to let their kids run round naked in their own gardens or paddling pools because of paedophiles..... how ridiculous...... unless of a course a family member is a paedophile. It is people thinking like this that are the reason I can't take innocent photos of my children at the public skating rink or in their school plays anymore.
Sorry but the issue with the bra, and even more so with the Asda knickers, which were really HSM knickers, is a none issue imho. Just because someone doesn't agree with you don't make assumptions about their experiences.

Do the ladies who are size zero buy their bras in the childrens section at places like BHS??
If size 10 is 34"... its logical that Size 8 is 32"....Size 6 is 30"...Size 4 is 28" Size 2 is 26" ...and Size Zero is 24"...or am I being daft???
These incredibly thin ladies must buy their undies somewhere ...they all very very thin but all seem to have huge b**bs!
The best way to register your displeasure is to use purse power and shop elsewhere! The sexualisation of young children is morally reprehensile but as previous post show...some parents will choose to buy such trash.0 -
Although they are a body size '0' their bra size can be something totally different. The smallest back size available is a 28" but there are a few places that sell a 26" but now the cup sizes can run to a K cup!! So it depends on their bra size as to where they buy their bras. For example, I am a size 12 but am quite top heay with a small back size and large cup so I am not a size 12 on top. Does that make sense.
However, most size 0's want the stick size bodies but also want boobs so, unless they have been 'blessed' or have had implants they will wear the bras with padding or those with gel implants. From my experience in selling anyway!
Just to add having read again, you have given waist sizes there as being a '0' at 24", the back size is generally bigger because a) we add 4/5 inches onto the back measurement and b) the rib cage around the bust is generally bigger than the waist so a size ) would not have a 24" back size but a 28" or 30" (hope you are not too confused now).0 -
