I used to work on lingerie on m&s before I moved departments, and sorry to shock you guys, but there was many a mother who wanted to put there 9/10 year old daughter in what i would call sexy, padded, underwired bras despite my advice about non padding and no wires. They'd be buying them no matter what I said about them.Dooyoo £10.40/40, TopCashBack £17.19/30, Valued Opinions 50p/£10, Swagbucks 0/£20, Ebay £15/£250

Don't get me started on the sexualisation of children, usually with the full approval and encouragement of their parents!
Have been getting irate on the subject for some time now.
Not convinced? Just go along to your local primary school when they're holding one of their regular discos and see all the little girls dressed like hookers. Oh, and they'll be encouraged to have "Boyfriends" from reception age onwards.
No, it's not a "Fogey" issue. Our daughter wouldn't put a particlular gift on our grand-daughter when she was about a year old as it said "Babe." Daughter was then only in her early 20s herself, but reckoned her child should be a baby while it was appropriate, certainly not a "Babe."
I just cannot understand the mentality of parents who parade their children in such a way, but refuse to let them go and play in the woods with their friends "Cos of all the weirdos around."Worse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0 -
My 9 year old daughter now wears a bra but are you sure they are the padded wonderbra type bras that BHS are aiming at 7year olds? or just moulded cups? I only ask because the ones my daughter has are just moulded cups (Hello Kitty design) because I couldn't get anything else for her, they certainly aren't scaled down versions on the sexy plunge bras designed for women, if that's what they are selling then yes I agree its too much, but I don't think there is anything wrong with the moulded cup pretty bras that I have seen in the shops for girls (that do not push up and lift!)
I know a few years ago there was a big hoo ha in BHS because they were selling thongs for young girls too, I don't know if they still do, not that I would allow my daughter to wear themAug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -
Personally, I'd say 'Hello Kitty' is not an appropriate design for a 9 year old's bra. Also, surely the 'moulded cups' make the breasts look larger and more formed than a basic bra would? I've seen the ones you're talking about ... but they're not what I'd buy for either of my girls!"...Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate,

Sorry, I have to disagree, how many adult women would wear a hello kitty design bra??? and no the bra my daughter has does not make her look larger in the slightest, it just fits her properly, she has crop tops aswell and she looks no different in eitherAug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -
Thankfully my daughter said that the moulded bra's were horrible. In her words 'they make your boobs look big and pointy', bless she's only nine.0

I don't understand why hello kitty is innaproppiate for a child? I have not seen these padded bras for 7 year olds but I think they are probably moulded cup bras which personally I see no problem with. They are a comfortable type bra that does not push the breasts up etc etc.. They are also more discreet to wear under thin tops because they hide the nipple when it's cold. I hope people don't start making complaints unless they have actually witnessed what they are disagreeing with first.0

Yes I agree totally, there are plenty of unsuitable clothes (not just bras) that are available for kids these days and it does get difficult when your 9 yr old is in age 14yr old clothes as the styles for 14yo these days I don't think are suitable for a 9year old, but I just don't get hung up over an item of underwear that I purchased for my daughter and certainly don't think I should be condemned for that, I certainly didn't buy it because I thought it was 'trendy' or 'fashionable', I bought it because it was pretty and she liked it, that's as far as it goes, there are plenty of things she likes that I wouldn't allow her to wear but she is a 9year old girl in a 14yr old body, I can't stop her from developing and growing up and I certainly don't think it is the slippery slope to 'chavism'Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00

Thanks Minnie, that's one of the reasons I got her the moulded bra because it hides her nipples (which do tend to stick out a bit bless her!) it certainly doesn't push anything up, I have just measured the thickness of the moulding and it is 1.5mm thick, hardly more than a 'normal' braAug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00
