Just caught up on yesterday's thread:
Marie - my condolences, and I hope that things go well today xx
Redruby - chicken New Yorker is served at the Hungry Horse pub chain (not sure if it's local or national), and is my ds's fave! It it basically chicken bread wrapped around a piece of mozzarella, then the whole thing wrapped in bacon, drizzelled with barbeque sauce and baked in the oven. Yesterday I used skinned and boned chicken thighs and everyone preferred it as it had more taste, I was happy cos it meant it was cheaper lol! The girls have theirs without the sauce. Nice and simple dish to make!
Pink - poor Tilly, hope she's home safely and happily pulling your carpet again soon!
Elona - hope that your trip went well, and condolences to you and your dh and family as well xx
OS wise, the washing on the line is actually drying, yippee! dds 2 and 3 are making cupcakes, they want to practice with dd2's new icing bag and nozzles lol! Apparently this was her best Christmas pressie - wow, I could've saved so much money if I'd know that would satisfy her!
Quick tip for anyone with High School Musical obsessed children, Mr T's have HSM wrapping paper reduced to 62p in their Christmas sale, and it doesn't have anything remotely Christmassy written on it, have stocked up ready for dd3's friends birthdays! Also Mr T's have HSM pj's reduced to £2.50, these are the one's on hangers, not in packs, pink trousers and a white top with a pic of Chad (?) on it - grabbed a few pairs as birthday pressies as well!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Afternoon everyone, hope you all had a good Christmas. Haven't been on the internet for a few days so trying to catch up with whats been going on.
Haven't done that much OSing if I'm honest, had a few words with OH in the supermarket the other day over the price of chicken breasts compared to the price of a chicken, so yesterday afternoon I was de-boning a chicken, a lot easier than I thought. Looks like we'll be doing more of this in the future. Also made my own mince pies for Christmas, the batch lasted three days so they must have fairly reasonable.
Not much going on today, got into work early so the removal men could take out what was necessary. So sat here with a couple of desks and computers and not much else. The boss has also decided that there is no point in us twiddling our thumbs next week, supposed to finish on the 9th January, so rang earlier to say we are not needed after this Friday.0 -
Afternoon all,
I chickened out of doing the shopping, poked my nose out the door and it immediately froze so have sent DH for milk, fruit and salad.I told him I had loads to do.
I did have to book Hotel/parking for when we go to China/Japan & S. Korea on 26th Jan. I managed to get a good deal at the Hotel as we can leave the car there for 21 days. Haven't been able to think about our dream hols because of annniversary, B/days, Carnival, Xmas and New Year. Now it's looming I'm panicking. I've been trying to sort out what bills are due to be paid whilst we are away and make sure there are enough funds in the bank to cover them. Peter/Paul springs to mind.
DH organised this trip as a Ruby Anniv pressie, well, I say organised it---- he showed my the holiday and I booked/sorted all online.
I've made a batch of leek & pot soup, some cheese scones and a choc sponge pud. Made B&Squeek to use all veg up, portioned it and froze.
Dinner is simmering, a beef curry will make a change from all roastie type dinners, will serve the last of xmas pud tonight.
Still wading my way through the quilt I'm making for DGD
Stardroped the kitchen within an inch of it's life after it having a lick and a promise since xmas eve.
Think it's time I lit the fire and closed the shutters, hope all have managed to keep warm.
SETFEJB, What stirling work you have done at the crisis centre, looks like your reward is not far awaydo let us know of any progress. Not being nosey of course, just looking out for you :rotfl:

Well, today hasn't gone exactly as planned...you'll have noticed that from the spend at Mr M for a start!
First things first. Several people have asked questions about the enchiladas/refried beans palaver.
It's not an exact science, but I shall do my best. I have only made Frijoles) them once or twice before. And a while ago. My instructions that I am working from at the moment can be found here
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=10514859&postcount=234
you can see the onions are a bit big and the beans haven't been mashed as much as usual.
Tortillas here...

The enchiladas recipe erm....I have a couple. One is typed up already and has cooked chicken (could use turkey if you have any kicking around LOL!) and wensleydale in it. Tomato sauce on top.
THE one I'm doing has refried beans, peppers and chicken (read pork... shoulder joint that I will cut up and saute) with soured cream and grated cheese over the top. Already doing salmon in creamy sauce so will probably do tomato topping. Are you following this LOL? The refried beans... we've got the onions a bit big. It's a bit wet, so we're just cooking without the lid to reduce it a little. It's NOTHING at all like the bought stuff, but I hate that, reminds me of catfood (not that I have ever eaten that, or ever had a cat you understand!)
Both recipes for enchiladas are on a sheet, don't know whether to post them in here. If you want the recipes for the enchiladas will you just email me pauline@ivyvillas.co.uk and I'll send it to you. I don't want to block this thread with long recipes, but not sure where else to put it.
Mods, if you would like to tell me where to stick it  you're welcome!
If I didn't answer your questions then please email me or PM me and I'll do my best!
Rest of the day...well girl from sewing club came and had her manicure done. Then I helped her with her top a bit, then to the fabric shop, which she enjoyed ,as new to her. I got startings of outfit for costume ball. eventually we got back here and had some lunch  subway and I did her eyebrow/lip wax for her. Then more of her top. Eventually got started on tomorrow's cooking about an hour ago. DS is being obliging, good at stirring pans and keeping an eye on stuff.
Sorry for the incoherence, need a sit down with a cuppa."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Hi everyone,
Just a quickie to say thank you so much for all your messages and posts asking about Tilly. We got her home last night and she can be summed up in two words. Miserable and pathetic. They amputated the whole tail and she's wearing one of those plastic things around her head to stop her getting near the stitches. She hates it with a vengence and is reversing everywhere trying to get it off, which means she keeps bumping her rear end which is obviously sore. Getting the painkillers and antibiotics into her is a struggle and I feel cruel doing it to her but she needs them so I must. I wish I could get my hands on the ******* who laid that trap! The bill wasn't as bad as it might have been...£180 but it's made me realise how important it is to get her insured asap.
So I haven't done anything remotely old style today, but just sat with her on my lap for most of the day. Tea tonight will be a cold buffet with leftover party food, garlic bread and gammon from the freezer.
I've just skimmed the thread quickly so can't remember much so forgive me if I've missed something important.
mudgekin, I hope you're ok.
moneysavinghornet, welcome!
purpleivy, that looks delicious. If you want to post recipes in your own words (rather than copied exactly) that's fine.
frugalswan, sorry to hear about the candle incident, I hope your oh is ok and you managed to get it cleared up.
Churchie, thinking of you xx
Thank you again for all the kind wishes.

If they don't give you a plan, ask for one and then there can be no confusion. Much better to ask now than have a bill you aren't expecting.
It used to drive me mad when I was chained to the NHS and I'd explain how much the treatment would cost and all my patients would say (after they had told me I was too young to be a dentist) "no dear, I don't have to pay, I'm NHS".
Thanks for this, i seem to remember that before i used to go in for treatment at the last dentist i had to fill in a form so maybe that will happen at my new dentist, if not i`ll ask. DH has just arrived home from w*rk and is now worried that he may have been taken off the list too as he hasn`t been for a check up for around 9 months. I`m not sure how long it is between visits and being removed from the list but i must admit i`m a bit miffed as i tried to make an appointment last month but couldn`t get in as my dentist was on leave the same week that i was and there was no mention at all of being taken off the list, i was just asked to ring back for another appointment.
I`m intrigued now, if you are not nhs and not private what else is there? or tell me to jump off a cliff if i`m being too nosy
I`m off to Sainsbugs later to get a do-it-yourself dental kit in case the tooth needs any extra glue, not sure how i`d go about using it though as i need two mirrors to see the tooth and i only have two handsDH helping is a definite no-no it takes him half an hour to trim an inch off the bottom of my hair and even then it`s not level
Purpleivy - your refried beans look fantastic, i`ve bookmarked the recipe and i shall be trying them out soon, thankyou for posting the recipe.
Well i forgot to get the hm meatballs out of the freezer so i`m in and out of the kitchen defrosting them in the microwave, it`s just beeped agin so i`d best check on them.
Catch up later, have a good evening peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
