Hi Lula, have finally bought myself a new top from Next, but I had a £10 voucher, so with the top costing £12, I only spent £2 of my own money! So £2 down, £98 to go!! Really need to lose weight before I go for more new clothes and also would like to have a really good sort out of both my winter and summer wardrobes to see what I have. In the meantime, might be a bit of 'make do and mend' with some items!! Thanks Lula

  • No, I'm not single - am married with two kids....I've just found a khaki (cotton) jacket in my wardrobe, I wonder if I could dye it black? Or do you think Khaki is too dark to dye?

If you are not sure, use two packets of dye and don't forget the salt!

    Hi everyone

A bit late reporting in for March, but i'm pleased to say another no spend month has passed me by, although my work clothes are seriously in need of replacing!!

I think i'm going to be getting another telling off though, as true to form I still haven't got round to putting any of my stuff I could sell on ebay. I need to knuckle down and get it done, but i've been getting a bit excited about growing my own veggies, sad I know:rolleyes: One good thing is that you don't need new clobber for gardening :rotfl:

Here's to a profitable ebay month and maybe i'll think about treating myself :D
:jYou've got to be in it to win it!! Just believe to receive!! :j

    Hello again,

there's been another flurry of activity I see :D

Happy New Clothes to Maz, ( slow down girl :p)

& Buffy - I dont have one (yet ) but my grandmother used to have a lovely wicker basket type thing on wheels with a long handle. I spent hours wheeling all my toys around the garden in that :o

    & Queen.Bess very bargainous :A

Lula wishes she lived close to all fellow crazies - does minor alterations (hems & sleeves) & repairs + buttons & nametapes  Must get that sewing machine out, so far have only made a dress for DDs teddy & forgot I had the machine so did it all by hand

Anwyay before I dash off to update the list I have to say that my latest dyeing escapade is a huge success :j. I am now the proud owner of a gorgeous rich conker brown skirt for the sum of £5.20. Had to buy from the local hardware store since the demise of Woolies :(. I really miss it still, got all sorts of random things in there & there's nothing similar around here.

    Bye for now

Ooooh, that brings back bad memories (no, I'm not a former slug ;)), I once tried dying something without enough salt to cover the dye in the washing machine.... bad move, very bad move.
It came out very patchy & nasty.

My tip, use double the salt.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

Oh I so understand that buzz  Trust me though, dyeing clothes is fun & does give a similar type of buzz :D

Am considering giving myself pocket money of say £5 a week to buy frivolities with & then can challenge myself to get as many bargainous bits as possible for that £5 .....

Oh dear I can feel another challenge coming on :rotfl:

:AI think this is an absolutely great idea - I get the new stuff craving too and it'd be a great way to limit the amount I spend so I can put it towards repaying my debts. And it'd be great to compare bargains too. :D
  • I have visions of Dylon Dye sales rocketing this weekend!
    :rotfl:

You guys have inspired me to get my act together and get round to dyeing a faded mousy brown skirt this weekend. And thanks for all the tips :A.

Has anyone tried buttons as a quick way to revamp clothes, especially tired/boring cardies (I have a tonne!!). You can get some really pretty buttons quite cheaply and its a great way to get a new garment buzz but very cheaply. A couple of the charity shops near me have a big tub of buttons.

I've also started sewing buttons on to other things as decoration, like the ends of scarves and to plain cotton bags.

AAH BUTTONS! I could buy some new buttons for the khaki (soon to be black) jacket that I mentioned earlier! I'm definitely going to buy some dye and salt and do it tomorrow. I'm off to collect those trousers that I had shortened tomorrow and there's a haberdashers nearby so I'm going to go and look at buttons while I am there.
