ooh, I have been thinking of dye too, I have some light blue converse canvas shoes that I would like to be purple - does anyone know if it would be regular clothes dye?
Also, I have some confessions: Beautiful dorothy p silver high heels! In the sale though £5!
And some other bits in primark - scarf £2, tshirt £1.47, hairbands £1, 8 pairs of earrings £1.50.....naughty, but I was on holiday:money:0 -

You guys have inspired me to get my act together and get round to dyeing a faded mousy brown skirt this weekend. And thanks for all the tips :A.
Has anyone tried buttons as a quick way to revamp clothes, especially tired/boring cardies (I have a tonne!!). You can get some really pretty buttons quite cheaply and its a great way to get a new garment buzz but very cheaply. A couple of the charity shops near me have a big tub of buttons.
I've also started sewing buttons on to other things as decoration, like the ends of scarves and to plain cotton bags.
Another thing you can consider (in addition to adding buttons) is adding a decorative edge to your cardigans... Or maybe some kind of embroidered flower decorative thing. Little details like that make a cardigan seem unique. But obviously, dont do it if you think you will ruin your cardigan!0 -
moneysavingmoney85 - if you dye converse it might also dye the plastic :S unless they have black soles and not white? then it won't matter.0

That's a good idea but I think I'll need to practise my embroidery (and dredge my memory for the stitches I learnt at school) before I let myself loose on even an old cardi!:rotfl:0 -

Have you considered corsages? Very SJP and, I think, relatively easy to make. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -

Hi everyone,
oh wow, loads of great moneysaving ideas coming through.
Buffy honey - I checked your first page & you had £30 odd before the 2 new works skirts & are you sure that your workwear is included ? Remember I did say that I work from home so originally this challenge was meant to be just for personal use clothes ... up to you hon
thoroughlybrokemillie - buttons are a fab way to change the look of stuff, I've often bought clothes hating the buttons on them & immediately changed them.
maz_student - loving the embroidery/beading idea too :T
gratefulforhelp - never thought of corsages before :T
weenapops - well done you for not spending anything ( I love my veggies too & have a pair of very old ripped jeans to do my gardening in, & wellies of course
moneysavingmonkey85 - only the t shirt counts out of what you bought so yay for that& primarni currently have purple converse style footwear in - I damn nearly got them myself but got carried away by ...
a pair of black linen trousers, a lovely grey drapey bow front top ( that does need to be slimmed into a bit) & 2 vest tops pale pink & brighter pink
total spend £18.13  I have a scary feeling that tomorrow I'll be going back for another pair of linen trouser too, they're a really good fit on me & I bought for the smaller of 2 sizes so I'll be motivated to be comfortable in them rather than not being able to sit down while wearing them
off to update the front page now ...
