DWP employment waiting list

I haven't read all of this thread-just the posts on this page. As far as I know, DWP recruitment works this way: The -Powers-That-Be (TPTB) give permission for the various branches of DWP to recruit. They will stipulate at what grade the jobs can be advertised at and for how long: permanent, FTA, casual. The branches will then start recruitment exercises.
During the recruitment exercises, TPTB will react to any change in government policy. During or after the recruitment exercise, branches are often notified of a change. This change could be in the number of recruits/grade of recruits/whether permanent/FTA etc.
The branches have no control over this and are not usually given an explanation. People who interviewed successfully are often put on waiting lists while TPTB decide if they can still afford to recruit them.
Sometimes branches are given permission to recruit FTA with the genuine hope that these FTA recruits will be given permanent posts somewhere down the line
A few weeks ago, a memo was issued in my area of DWP stating that there was to be no more recruitment until further notice. All of the casual staff and FTAs whose contracts expired at the end of March no longer have a job.
We are keeping our fingers crossed for the rest who have temporary contracts for later in the year.
So, while the government has not made any redundancies, they have let a fair few number of casual/FTA people go0 -

who is you union rep and what area i had the same problem i applied for IRC 47020 admin post it was advertised as perm i got the job and was told it was FTA i thought crap !! after 6 monthsof arguing and chasing up shared services i was told by my acting manager that i was now perm, 4 months later i applied for IRC 57814 the Band HEO and acting Band C approached me and congratulated for getting through the numeracy tests and then dropped a bomb
they said i was still a Fixed term !!!!!!!!!!!
you need to lodge a grievance and if you get a chance tell your union rep that they are useless for providing the wrong information !!!!! :mad:I don't know if anyone can help or it has already been covered previously but I applied for a permanent position with the DWP, the advert clearly stated it was permanent and once i started on the first day I was told it was a fixed term contract.
According to the district office the post I applied for was permanent but they only took on 70 staff as permanent and the rest on a FTA contract, now surely they should've changed the advertisement.
I've spoken to the union and the union hasn't really been much help really, the union rep said I should've more or less told dwp to stuff there job on the first day as I didn't do this I had accepted the offer off a FTA!!
Now surely there must be another solution to this, i also wanted to know if anyone else is having this problem?
Just to also mention according to union everyone should've recieved an offer letter to which I didn't recieve one but just a phone call, now the offer letter supposedly stated it was a FTA to which I wasn't even aware until the first day off work!0 -

i left my part time job and started to sign on, after 6 months i was forced to do a SIA security badge and ended up working for Securitas for 2 1/2 years i applied for AO which was adertised as Permanent when i was successful i was told it was Fixed term, i carried on working for the Benefit Delivery Centre (DWP) after 6 months i was told that i was now a Perm member of staff, 9 months into my employment i applied for my promotion externally i was then apprached by senor managers and informed that i was not perm but in fact Fixed term, this stressed me out i applied for every where telford staffordshire manchester and birmingham i was successfull for all of the posts but was dicriminated by the Birmingham post because of my age ( i complained about this and now work in Birmingham) i work as a Full time Adviser and know my job inside out my partner applied for the post IRC 65238, she was also dicriminated against because of her age/physical health same procedure we complained she is on a waiting list when i made more enquiries i have been told by Employees Servicing that the post she applied for IRC 65238 is Fixed term and there was 25 positions they have taken on 32 candidtes who have scored 21+ out of possible 32 marks 38 candidates were successfull which should leave 6 candidates on the waiting list when i queried this they saidu that 15 were on the waiting list !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i urge anyone that has a complaint to get in touch with employee services and clarify this also make a complaint in writing.
DO NOT WRITE TO YVETTE COOPER ETC ETC THEY DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH RECRUITMENTS I AM IN THE PROCESS IN WRITING TO THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISIONERS OFFICE they deal with all the recruitment for the civil service which includes DWP
HAS ANY ONE BEEN IN CONTAT WITH THEM ????????
Ref IRC65238, After reading your comments that this was only a FTA contract. I took the opportunity to dig out my response letter from Employee Services dated Feb 2010, just to reiterate the information I was given.
It reads:
I can confirm that selection exercise IRC65238 is a permanent post and the closing date was 5th February 2010. The original adverts contained details for a FTA position with a closing date of 29th January 2010 however approval was later granted for this exercise to be made permanent. Amended advertisements were posted with an extended closing date of 5th February 2010. Nonetheless I hope you will accept my apologies for any confusion this has caused.
I hope this helps clarify the situation, I'm so glad I received something in writing now.0 -

I have heard of quite a few people on here just receiving a phone call rather than an offer letter. It's always best to receive confirmation in writing, even if they e-mail you.
I know once my pre-recruitment checks are complete I will express that they confirm everything in writing to me.
I hope the above is of some help!

Hi Fresian, I had my type and talk test today and I passed
Thank you very much for the help. It was the same scenario. I have my interview on Friday 23rd April.
fresian_cow wrote: »Hi, yes I did pass both times, once for AO and once for EO. I got the AO job and that's what I do now (this was before all the recruitment freezes), then I passed for the EO grade too but this waiting list has run out. You're right, it isn't really something you can prepare for. Just remember to be friendly and listen to what they are saying, record the information as best you can. Fingers crossed it's the same scenario for you!!!0 -
Just thought I'd let the west midlands people know there is another job on the dwp site closing date is the 23/040

If you have a saved copy of the web page can you please send it to me. Thanks.0
