I didn't take the test, I applied internally, but got a letter back to say that due to the number of applicants they had raised the bar.
I had help from my Line Manager completing the application form, but I had to use competencies from my previous employment, not sure if this had any impact.
I was promised feedback on my application but haven't received it yet, I'll chase it up if I don't hear anything this week.

My contract finishes in January so I've started looking for alternatives, I'll step up the search as it gets closer. I have been told that they intend to honour the contracts on all FTA's though, we're expecting to get more information in the next month or so.

Good luck with your new job, have you got a start date yet?
I'm not sure how internal applications work. I am an external applicant, I too would like to apply for feedback on my interview, as I previously applied for an EO position and was interviewed by Manpower, on this exercise I got put on a waiting list 96/128, so I am very pleased I have got it right at long last lol

I don't have a starting date yet, I just got the letter on Friday and also received an e-mail asking for telephone numbers for personal references and proof of my last 3 years employment.

Thanks for your good luck wishes, I have been waiting since last July for a role, so I am glad I persevered, albeit has been a long wait.

Congratulations on your appointment, mbcomper, hope things go well for you.

From my Job Centre the outlook is grim. Our fixed termers are assuming their contracts won't be extended, they're now applying for other jobs, three have resigned with a fourth expected to hand in their resignation next week.

That only leaves us with one of the fixed term staff we took on last September.

The loss of those staff has been nothing short of disastrous. They were all employed as signing clerks, we've now only got two permanent clerks plus the two fixed termers. And they're having to come in before 8am to get the boxes into order and are staying on til past 6pm to ensure the evidence has been put through, plus have to "take the grief" from signers who are having to wait longer than usual to sign on.

Management are desperate for new staff, but the decision on the 2010/2011 headcount has been delayed until after the general election. They don't expect to know how many staff we should have for the current financial year until late May at the earliest.

    It's all pretty grim.

No assumptions from myself, it's the current "plan" as I far as I know and FTA contracts are ending in November which happens to coincide with my own contract. I honestly think it's a blessing as working for the JCP is almost as bad as being worked up by the JCP. Lessons learnt and all that.

    Some GOOD NEWS at Last:

Just thought I'd let everyone know how I got on at my recent interview 17/03/010 (Mothers Day). I was cussing at the time as I had to change my plans for the day to accomodate the interview.

I have since received a letter 09/04/10. I have been successful and selected as one of the 25 people out of 1800+ applicants who they are looking to employ within the Pensions & Disability Centre @ Birmingham.

Wooohooooooo a result at last, I've been sitting on a waiting list since Oct 2009 for another EO role IRC 62504 for the JC+. :j

Interviews were done by the DWP this time not Manpower thank God. The DWP were very proficient and dealt with the process very well. I did take the opportunity to ask at the end of my interview why did I need to apply again for a role of the same grade, when I was currently already on a waiting list. Then 1 of the 2 x interviewers said I should contact HR in Newcastle to let them know and discuss further, I said I already had and was told by them to re-apply for any other roles. I wasn't quite sure if I had put my foot in it at this stage. However, we all need to be heard and I hope it may also help others on waiting lists who are waiting for news. I suggest you all e-mail the HR Dept and complain, especially where you see that they are re-advertising for the same roles and grades i.e. Preston. I really think the DWP should accomodate people already on a waiting list first before re-advertising for the same or similar roles.

BTW I have also applied for an AO role @ Walsall & Nuneaton on the basis that I might have been unsuccessful with the EO role. I have had the interview for Walsall and I am awaiting a reply, the Nuneaton interview is Sunday 18th April. However, these are just temporary contracts (51 weeks) again within the Pension & Disability Centre.

I am so glad now I applied for the Birmingham EO Role as this is permanent so they tell me, until the General Election of course, then who knows!

I would like to thank everyone who wished me luck and a BIG THANK YOU to Desperado2 for their advice and support, giving me the will and reassurance to re-apply for this role.

To everyone else GOOD LUCK and keep trying!

    Thats great news, well done.!;)
  • Hi
I have applied for HEO/SEO Business Analyst roles Job Advert - IRC65869.
The closing date for applications was 30/3/2010, with literacy and numerical testing to take place w/c 12/4/2010.

I received the automated email telling me that my application had been submitted, but I have heard nothing more. As we are now the 12 April do I assume my application was not successful - or do they normally let you know either way?
  • Thank you fresian cow for your reply it was very helpful. Did you pass the test both times? I guess I can't really practise for this test, just hope my skills are good enough on the day.

Captain Cavewoman, the type and talk test is where they simulate a telephone call with you, kind of like roleplay and you have to record information on a computer. I have done 2 and both were the same situation - someone living in a 3 bedroom house, daughter partner and children were coming to live with them, one of the bedrooms had damp and couldn't be used and the garden was overgrown and needed tidying. They have some general information on services they hypothetically offer and you are given an opportunity to look at this prior to the roleplay. Then you do the call and record the information. Both times I did it someone was sat reading the details from a sheet of paper so not a phone call and there was someone there taking notes.

It's usually done by the contact centre staff on overtime so it's not really scary or anything, they're dead friendly I've found. Hope that helps and if you have any other questions just ask or pm me.
  • When I applied for an AO role last year and filled in an online application, I just got a phone call quite a few weeks later inviting me to attend the numeracy and literacy tests. There was not much notice given. For this AO role I have just applied for I received an e-mail stating I had passed the online test. Not sure if you hear if you are unsuccessful.

Hi, yes I did pass both times, once for AO and once for EO. I got the AO job and that's what I do now (this was before all the recruitment freezes), then I passed for the EO grade too but this waiting list has run out. You're right, it isn't really something you can prepare for. Just remember to be friendly and listen to what they are saying, record the information as best you can. Fingers crossed it's the same scenario for you!!!

    Hi Players 1987

I did confirm that the post was permanent when I had my interview, I questioned the business centre directly. I was told that originally it was a fixed term post. However, it had now been changed to a permanent position and there would be a probationary period. I'm sure I also have confirmation of this in writing, as I queried that the newspaper advert said Fixed Term, yet the website read Permanent when I submitted my application.

I will wait until I receive further notification, I will not be very pleased if it is a FT contract, especially after I queried this with Employee Services and the Business Centre.

Can I ask why you feel your partner was discriminated against due to her age/physical health? I do not mean to pry, it's just I thought the DWP were 'Equal Opportunity' Employers.

  • Hi when my partner went for the position she was asked to introduce herself she explained that she was in management position etc etc and one of the interviewers asked how old she was because she looked quite young (WHICH IN DWP RECRUITMENT PRINCIPLES THAT IS A NO NO) my partner has just turned 22 also at the end of the interview my partner asked "would the successful candidate be provided training ?" now my partner is pregnant and is showing, one of the panel members replied " the DM post is a specialist post and would require 14 weeks training and mentoring to which the candidate has to attend full time hours to complete this," he then looked my partners stomach and asked sarcastically " would this be a problem ?"

obviously my partner said no, but she was made to feel very uncomfortable, there were other remarks during the whole interview,

i also went for this interview and i was unsuccessful so im confused does this mean i should not be an EO ? or does mean that there recruitment is total shambles

by the way i am on a waiting list for a band D HEO which is a grade higher and i am 22 also but the amount obstacles that you can come across is horrendous so much for "EQUAL OPPERTUNITIES!" my A**E
