DWP employment waiting list

Most of you will know my story, but for those that don't:-
Applied for IRC60345 (Admin Officer) in June. Online SIFT test July, Interview and Success letter August, (no waiting list), Disclosure September with compliment slip stating all checks now complete, email October stating I was 24 on merit list and Business Services would be in touch.
Received the following letter from DWP today:-
"Re your application with Jobcentre Plus for a Band B position.
In accordance with best practice we are currently updating our records and wanted to inform you that you are now on our waiting list for the above exercise.
Unfortunately, as a result of a review of Jobcentre Plus's staffing requirement, we are not in a position to offer you a job at this time. However, the waiting list does not expire until 8th July, 2010 and we will be in touch during this time if an opportunity arises. If you have not heard from us by this date then unfortunately we will not be able to offer you a post.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in working for jobcentre plus.
Please note you will receive similar letters if you have applied for other Jobcentre Plus vacancies".
Thankfully, I didn't wait for them to get their act together, having taken a brilliant job at B & Q. I am so grateful that I did after this horror of a letter.
Truly hope that nobody else receives a similar communication. The week before Christmas, too. Their timing stinks
I'm so glad you've got a good job now Heather and aren't still waiting to start this job.
I'm waiting for this letter as I received a reply to an email I sent asking for an update with the reply saying that DWP are in a recruiting position until December and will be in contact if they are able to offer a position, otherwise it will be January, which says to me there isn't a job.
I am so gutted as I really, really wanted this job and feel so angry I have more or less been fobbed off for months and still am until I receive this letter, makes it even worse that I'm near the top of the merit list, so close yet so far!
Hope nobody else is waiting and receive this letter, good luck everyone!!0 -
Don't want to upset you all but a current internal exercise for promotion has informed offices that that if they loose staff through promotion they will not be replaced as they are not recruiting anymore from the waiting list, not sure if this applies to all area of the country or just some areas.0

Many thanks for your post. Although its not what any of us want to hear but it has finally made me decide to just forget I ever applied for DWP. Im going to enjoy Xmas, continue in my job and keep applying for other things. I am one of the lucky ones in that I have good job but was looking to get back into the public sector. But the way they have messed so many of us around and basically used us to produce a 'just in case' list is disgusting and I'm not even sure I would want to work for them....it would only be a 6mth contract no doubt anyway!
I had my interview 31st July and the success letter 18th August for Cardiff EO 60895 and every email and phonecall has the same theme. Just wait for the call. But they know full well its likely that there will never be a call. They have placed the staff they need.
I would love to be wrong - I tend to err on the 'cup half empty' side of life anyway - and I hope they everyone gets an influx of start dates but I think those of us who havent heard may be getting a sweep of letters to explain we wont be gettting a job. Saying that what am I thinking! We wont have letters. We wont have any contact. Will just have to guess.0 -
I'm not sure about cardiff, i'm opposite end of the country so you might still be in luck.0

I have a feeling my luck isn't in lol!! And the thing is its not as if there is a way of me finding out. I just have to keep waiting until I can't wait any more. If you do find out any more information I'd be very grateful if you could PM me. In the meantime, I think I shall draw a line through it. Anything else a bonus then isn't it. Many thanks.0 -
Thank you Mondo for the info!
Sorry for the multiple questions...but I have one more! Purely out of curiosity, how long does the dwp require for notice of someone leaving? Is it two weeks notice? This would be for someone on a contract.
Thank you!!!0 -
It's looking increasingly likely that the DWP is feeling the cutbacks just like every other Government department.
I wouldn't say it's a blanket ban for all recruitment, but it's obvious that recruitment has been scaled down dramatically.
Some may be lucky yet, personally I don't hold out much hope now.0 -

If end of Jan there is zero then I am going to mail my MP with the short run down on the situation....at least he may be able to put on some pressure to change the system so that others like us do not have to suffer this crazy system in the future.0 -
I think u are SO right......I am now at the point where I have more or less given up of hearing anything at all...here we are a week away from Christmas and still no contact for the month of December - as promised. I too think the January contact will just not come....today I have decided to apply elsewhere. Such a shame to come so near yet so far. I just think they should have told us the rules of the game at interview.

Yes I agree, a letter to our MP will take 5 minutes to write and if enough of us speak out about it you never know, it may get some sort of result. There is nothing to lose.
Oh well. I wish all my fellow 'waiters' a very Happu Christmas! I for one will eat my weight in chocolate and drink enough to fill a swimming pool. Then I will see what January has to offer.0 -

I know we're both waiting for IRC 60811 Shropshire.
This is, without doubt, one of the worst recruitment processes I've been through, and I'm gutted. Gutted and still unemployed having applied for (what feels like) thousands of other jobs already. I think it's going to have to be two part time jobs, as the full time work isn't ut there for people like me.0
