Last time I was bluntly told that they were still waiting for checks to be cleared and my place on the merit list. That was a couple of weeks ago, emailed again for progress the other day and was told that my enquiry was passed to Louise Perry and then had the standard reply that quite a few people on here have got, "Jobcentreplus are in a recruiting position until the end of December. They will be in touch with you during that time if they are able to offer you a post. Otherwise they will contact you in January."
Does the fact that my enquiry was apparently passed onto Louise Perry and that it mentions they are recruiting until December look bad on my chances of actually getting a job? I've started looking for other jobs of course but I would rather they just say if there is a low likelihood rather than keeping everyone waiting. I'm not going to be too happy if I've gone through the whole process and all this waiting if there isn't a job at the end of it, I'm at the top of the merit list too.
I got this answer on the phone.

Not looking good for us is it?
I wonder if they will actually be in contact or whether we will have to chase them up and find out like somebody on this board had to do and then be told they weren't going to tell him/her. Grrr!
Good luck to you though.0 -
Thanks 5footsix!
I got 18 for my numeracy and 13 on my literacy. So, i've done ok, i think.
I'll just have to wait to see if they ring. I ticked about 10 places as choices to work, so i reckon i've spread my bets quite well. They did all the CRB forms etc at the interview, so i have nothing else to do.
My letter says i'm only on the waiting list for 6 months, whereas i read elsewhere that others got 12 months. Fingers crossed!
Hi jimjam1,
congratulations on getting your confirmation letter. I applied in October and had an interview at the end of November too. So far I haven't heard anything, although it was for a different area (Kent IRC63811).
It was interesting to read your test results, which are good, and I was wondering if they may have accelerated your application merit. There must have been around 25 people sitting the test at the same time as me and I was surprised that only 8 of us passed both (which were the remainder in the room after people were called out individually to chat about their results). As we sat there while the papers were being marked, the Manpower rep informed us that the pass mark was 11 out of 15 for literacy and 10 out of 20 for numeracy. At this point I started to relax because I felt that I would acheive 15/15 for the literacy and more than 10 for the numeracy, even though for this test I misjudged the time and guessed the last 5 questions. However, I ended up with 12 for literacy and 16 for numeracy.0 -
I wonder (slightly off-the-cuff, maybe someone could shed some light on this) if DWP can/are giving preference to unemployed candidates for positions?
Part of me cannot understand whether the delay is in placing all people on the waiting list, or on shuffling priorities.
I'm IRC 60811 Shropshire & unemployed thus desperate for a job in case anyone is reading!! I've tried everythind else and today got turned down for a call centre job. I'm overqualified apparently

I also doubt that they give preference to the unemployed. I was unemployed and altho i applied in april i didnt get started til November....whereas people i know got started before me and had to leave there current jobs to take the DWP ones. The waiting game is a pain but i really do think it all comes down to how well we score in the interview as to where we are placed on the merit list and when we are placed in the job. I was on an FJR training event last monday and one of the boys there i recognised from the testing stage....he had been with the company for 5 months. Whereas i was only in my 5th week. Some people in my office also applied in april, and they have been there 5 months. They were obviously higher on the merit list and had been lucky to be placed before the freeze they put on. Its mad....but the jobs must be out there cos there are still vacancies going up etc.0

Hi there found this thread after searching for info on DWP job waiting lists on Google. Have read some of what has been said on here and it's all very confusing! I thought I'd add my recent experience.
I applied for position of Decision Maker in Bristol. I did the online assessment and was subsequently invited to an interview. I attended the interview which I felt went well (which is a fairly unusual post interview feeling for me!) and received a letter half way through the estimated time period of response which they thought to be 2 weeks. I sneaked a peak in the envelope and the first line read something along the lines of "Congratulations you have been successful..." so then I ripped the letter out of the envelope only to be rather disappointed to see that I was merely on a 6 month waiting list for a possible job
I rang them on the monday and enquired what the allocation had been and they told me they had had 30 vacancies and 40 people were successful in their application process so the final 10 were put on a waiting list. I found out I was number 5 on that list, not bad but not great. Of course she was unable to tell me what the likelihood of me being offered an 'actual' job was.
Since then however, I received an email from a lady in another department requesting I send her my p45's/ wage slips for the last 3 years and the telephone numbers of my references. Does this mean they are closer to offering me a job? Surely they wouldn't start making these enquiries if they weren't looking to be taking on recruits for new positions!? I am so confused!0 -
AFAIK, they do these pre-employment checks for everyone who is successful and then they can immediately offer you a vacancy when it arises.0

sammyjammy thanks for your reply. The fact that they would have to find a replacement for me was one of the things I was also concerned about, if I were to change my mind. Especially considering there are plenty of people waiting to take my place!
Hopefully giving them sufficient notice will lessen the burden a little.
Thanks again...
Given the DWP's propensity for massing everyone around, I would pay little heed to sammys post!! While it is always nicer to do the decent thing, the fact of the matter is the DWP is unlikely to have organised any training at all that cannot be shelved postponed or offered to others..
The bottom line is you have to do what is best for you and your circumstances, however "well meaning" the DWP is, they are not efficient and you are just another name/number on a very long list. As you will see from the length of this thread, if you were to back out a day before starting, theres probably 20 folk they could telephone and have replace you on the day.. It seems in most cases they are so disorganised they can't arrange a proper start date/time, a letter to tell you where to go, or in some examples even a line manager to expect you..
I would say do the best you can to be fair and decent, but do not compromise your own situation.. if that means messing DWP around, then that is a necessary evil.0
