DWP employment waiting list

  • Hi all. This is a really interesting forum.

I had an interview for a temp EO contract in Kent last week but can't help feeling that I've blown it. I've been unemployed since my redundancy earlier this year from a large national company where I'd held several management positions over the years leading several quite large teams. In hindsight I think I went into the interview too over confident. Although I thought that my answers were detailed and adequately covered the questions asked, I kept being prompted to expand on things. Also, at the end when invited to ask questions, I queried whether there's scope to apply for more senior positions within the DWP after proving yourself at EO level. I was informed that if successful at this stage then it would be possible to apply for other positions. When the interviewer made the 'if successful comment' I've sort of taken it that I hadn't been.

Did anyone successful at the interview stage experience the same sort of answer prompting that I had ? Thanks.

    Hi
Actually in my experience prompting in the compentency based interviews is a positive thing.I have several friends who work within dwp and all had been prompted several times including me.

When my husband applied he was prompted once and was even told 'good' after each answer and he was unsuccessful.Stop worrying about it.There will be plenty of vacancies that come up with dwp you can apply for and also try looking at civilservice . gov . uk for jobs. (Actually no spaces inbetween but as new user I am unable to post links)

  • Thanks Jessie. I really appreciate your response.

Unlike other successful interviews that I've had in the past there wasn't any hint of the outcome. They wrote a lot of things down as I was giving my answers but it does all seem to be a bit of a lottery.

I second this. I was prompted quite a bit for one of the questions as I didn't actually fully understand the question and couldn't think of a decent answer but I was successful in the end, whether there is a job at the end of it is a different matter.

This type of interview is hard as there is no indicator of how you've done. I thought I had messed the interview up but passed, then you read of others who think they've done well but didn't.

Good luck and hope it isn't too long a wait for you to hear back.Let us know how you got on.

I felt the same Brewster at my interview, I even asked if they wanted to know anything else, and they advised that they couldn't tell me, but that if I wanted to add anything I could....I felt at that stage that I hadn't been successful, however I am now just about to commence my 3rd week of training as an EO......just goes to show that you just can't tell....

    Good luck...

Hi there and welcome to the forum! My interview with DWP was filled with prompting from start to finish! At one point my mind went totally blank and I could not remember my prepared scenario for the question (describe a time when you worked as part of a team blah, blah). I ended up droning on about when I helped behind the scenes at the local Gang Show. It was the biggest load of drivel you can imagine (I still cringe when I think about it lol!).The interviewers, although very pleasant, looked bored rigid throughout. At the end of the horror story, I felt I had to ask some sort of question so I enquired what opportunities were available for advancement in the DWP and received exactly the same response as you - "IF" you are successful. However, I WAS successful! This was back in July. Ended up getting cheesed off waiting for DWP to offer me a position, so have since taken a job somewhere else and am loving it.
I am sure your interview went better than you think and that it wont be long before you hear good news!

    hi jimisugly,

hopefuly you won't have to wait that long for 'the call'.

I also applied for 61099 (eo) and attended an assessment centre at the gateway in warrington on the 2nd of august. I passed the tests and had an interview the same day.

I got a letter saying that i'd been successful on the 8th of august, and my disclosure scotland letter was forwarded on by the dwp about 10 days later.

I got 'the call' yesterday afternoon, and was offered a job starting next monday (the 14th). I've got to do a 3 week training course at toxteth jc+, then i'll be working at my local jc+, so i'm really pleased as my local jc+ was my first choice. :j

good luck, and i'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

hi im starting my training tomorrow, what was it like? I have to do 5 weeks in toxteth. Is it ok for parking there also?
    Thanks in advance.
