  • I recieved my letter thru email but then also recieved a paper copy in the mail the Friday before i was due to start. They say to take it with you on your first day but i was never asked for it.....so im not sure lol
  • My contract isnt for very long either, until 3rd Dec next year...BUT at a training event we were told a lot of people will be kept on and the likelyhood of our contract actually ending then isnt likely and you'll probably get a good few months more even if your not kept on as a permanent member of staff. Either way u get plenty notice

Hi All, Congratulations to all who got the call well done:jI got the call yesterday myself but rather strange. Its not the job I applied for they say its still with the DWP but a different part of it and its only temp till March. I looked up the address on the web and I think it has to do with war pensions. Not that happy about it all really but its a job so Im thankful for that. They said I applied for a job centre plus job and they do not have any vaccancies (still grates me why they advertise in the first place) so they have passed the list on to them so I start on Monday at 9.30:confused:
Congratulations Leepy, they say it's easier to get another job when you have a job, so fingers xd you can move on to another role within the DWP or get an extension - keep us posted

    Update:D

Rang JCP at Leeds this morning. The Contract is now fixed term until the end of November 2010, and starts 18th January. Had a choice of only 2 locations. I know that no job is safe at the moment, but bit freaked out about the thought of being 'disposed of' at the end of November next year:confused::confused:
    Hi Jessbob

Congratulations, I'm really pleased for you. It's a shame it's only until November. However, given your employer is the DWP, give it 4 weeks and you can apply for an internal promotion like some others on the forum - onwards and upwards as they say lol :)

I JUST GOT MY CALL!! Still in shock! A nice man phoned and asked if I still wanted the job...think I said yes about 3 times! He went through several locations of which there was no option for the Birmingham city centre ones which I was hoping for but will be working in Selly Oak starting on the 7th December!! I am so pleased :)

Here is my quick recap of events:
    applied in August
    Interview Sept 18th
    Letter Oct 21st
    CRB back Nov 14th
    Call TODAY! Nov 24th

Also I was no. 15 on the list so looks they are working their way down and he offered me a choice of about 8 different locations so there's got to be a good number of positions available.

Good luck to everyone else waiting! :j:j:j:j
AJ you sound so excited - well done!

Do you live far from Selly Oak, is it easy for you to commute to?

My 3 preferences were Sutton Coldfield, Perry Barr and Erdington. Were any of these locations offered to you at all?

When I called Newcastle they told me the go had been given for 28 people off this list. I have dropped 7 places, so if I do my maths correctly 7 people were dropped from the top 28 on the list.

    I'm currently 89th when I last rang, so I might get a call in Mar 2010 :)

Good Luck for December 7th, let us all know how you get on

Still up in the air about it all really. 10 months is just not very appealing at all.

You thinking of not taking it? Can I ask which 2 locations they offered you and how far up the merit list you were at last check? Cuz I've got a West Yorks IRC too, but I'm like 68th and still not had a call or anything yet..
  • I think I am going to ask something that has been asked time and time again, but I can't seem to find the answer - so apologies.

I applied for a A.O job and received a phone call yesterday to say that I have been successful for an assessment which will be held next week.
From what I have read on their website it's numerical and written.

Could someone please tell me a bit more about what will happen at the assessment and how long they give you etc... I'm not very good in test situations my brain turns to mush:rotfl:
Then if successful what is involved at the interview stage.

I have also read a bit about how long some of you guys have been waiting to be offered a role and start date...I'm now starting to wonder if I should even bother going for it, it's contract until November 2010.

Any advice gladly welcome - thank you.

    Hi mbcomper,
I can't remember if he said Sutton Coldfield but he did say Erdington and Perry Bar. Selly Oak was actually my first choice but then I started to think that I would have much rather worked on Broad St which was my 2nd choice but no Bham ones were available so stuck with my first choice of Selly Oak. I chose Selly Oak because it is probably the closest and easiest to get to in the mornings as I live in Halesowen so it's not far at all, google maps says 15 minutes!

Fingers crossed you will get a call in March if not sooner!

I received an email today with my confirmation letter attached and I am going to be a band C Personal advisor which I am really pleased with (at least I think so anyway - it sounds like just what I wanted anyway!)

    Speak soon!
    Amy
