DWP employment waiting list

A similar thing, ish, has happened to me although not as severe as your case. I've not been on the forum for a while, so sorry I'm not up to date but your situation sounds dreadful.
Good for you for going to your M.P. I could be totally wrong on this as my knowledge is really out of date, but it used to be you weren't legally allowed to advertise for a post if it didn't exist. Are you going to go back to your M.P or have you had enough of it all?
My MP promised me she'd be speaking to the MP's in charge of DWP and then would get back to me. Not sure how much hope to put onto an MP's promise but you never know...
As for the advertising of a position, I spoke to the JCP where I was due to work last week and was told yes there were up to 35 vacancies when it was advertised but due to funding issues and mergers there was no longer any positions available. So I guess back in July they advertised in good faith.0 -
Well lo and behold today I receive a letter from DWP, it confirmed what I had been told about been 1st on the merit list but also confirmed once and for all that there is now no jobs for this IRC and that I will now remain top of the waiting list until the 27th Feb 2010 after which time my details will be removed from DWP records. There was no explanations as to how or why this had happened even though I already knew why.

Good on you for taking this further, please let us know what your MP says as the whole thing is unacceptable. How did you find out in the end that there were no jobs? Did they give a hint when you called/emailed them?
I called today after being told I was high on list by email and was told I had moved up but when I asked whether she knew whether there was a high likelihood of being posted, she didn't know and quite a few of the questions I asked, she seemed reluctant to answer them. I don't know whether she genuinely didn't know or has been told not to say anything. I am worried about waiting and there not being a job at the end of it and not being told about it.
Good luck and really hope you find something soon, the way they have messed people around is quite simply not good enough.0 -
Well Done Heather,
It proves that if you love your mother you are a nice person and that is what the interviewers would have thought. Congratulations.
Thanks for that! Yes I do love my mum. She went out scrubbing floors to provide for me and being a single parent in the 60's was difficult to say the least. Still, she made sure I never went without and now it is my turn to look after her and this job will helpGoodness only knows what the interviewers thought, but it must have been good :j

Firstly congrats to Heather, well done :T
I went to see my local MP last Saturday to see if I could get some answers about this whole sorry mess. I explained that the only info I'd received about the freeze, stopping of recruitment for call centres etc was from this website. She wasn't best pleased and got her assistant to take all the details and promised to look into it first thing Monday morning.

The final kick in the nether regions was their closing line..........
"Thank you for your interest in working for Jobcentre Plus" Ha chance would be a fine thing!
Congrats to all who have received start dates since I've been on this forum and to all the others who are still waiting or like me were applying for Call Centres good luck in your continued job hunt.

Oh Sparky, how awful for you (and others on this IRC). I am so sorry. Feel awful thanking you for your good wishes about my new job when your dream has all but fizzled out. I truly hope that this is just another DWP blip (there have been so many). My IRC was a call centre, by the way, so no doubt I will receive the same info shortly. Chin up. x0 -
Guess what guys......I GOT THE CALL  Can u believe it?! I can't! I got the call at 4.55 p.m and when I was pretty much down in the dumps and giving up!! I'm sooooo happy.:j
I was told that it will only be for year and perhaps less or more depending on the economic situation. I don't really care though. I just want a job and I can start looking for internal positions etc once i'm in!!
THATS BRILLIANT NEWS! So happy for you!0 -

After my excitment and surprise of actually getting the call I forgot to ask about the important stuff lol. Will they send me my contract in the post and will they send me info also about the pension schemes?
It'll tell you all you need about pensions here http://www.civilservice.gov.uk/pensions/index.aspx, chances are you'll have started work weeks before you get your contract"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0
