thunderb0lt wrote: »ok, I started in my office today after my two day induction at training centre.
I reported to my manager who took me round and introduced me to everyone, a lot of the people wern't interested at all. When I told people where I was from, they were really shocked as most live kinda local to the area. ok, so for the first couple of hours i did nothing just sat there, they have no desk for me.
I managed to get my access card and smart card but i dont have access to a computer so I couldnt do the RM stuff.
I spent the rest of the day shadowing a couple of people on FJR (I didn't get placed in the DASO team as I had hoped).
I soon realised that a lot of the stuff that was talked about in the induction conflicts with the stuff that was done by the FJR people I shadowed. one person just kept on putting down "internet" as customers' job search, I lol'd. A lot of these people have been working for JCP for years and years. Also, it was very funny, seeing some of the suggestions they were coming up in the job match. I mean suggesting a £25,000 PA job to a chav that has no intention to work.
well my first day wasn't too exciting, very awkward infact, not sure if it will mean that i won't enjoy the job or not but I guess it will build up my experience and allow me to apply for something within an office enviroment where there is no direct contact with members of the public.
Anyone else feel this way after their first few days.
I do feel you babes...those cust are very funny...all they want is just their GIRO....i was also bored on my first day and my line manager just kept telling me not to expect much from DWP cos i might be disaapointed...she has been with them for donkey 29 years and make me wonder if she will ever leave...like u said the introduction part was not nice as every one was less interested with new staff except the managers that really need you...you should be fine after you have settled in...one of the August start advised we should enjoy this moment while it last cos we will def be praying for days like this....so babes, enjoy it while it last.0 -

Everything is abbreviated there isnt it? do you find yourself talking in abbreviated sentences lol :rotfl:0 -
Congratulations!! Is this AO or EO? Im waiting on a Cardiff EO start date. Hope I get the call soon!
It's for the AO position mate. It looks like they have started phoning a few people this past week for Cardiff area AO's so it looks good that you might get a call soon to be an EO for the newbs0 -
well I got the call today at last. Like Richyvezy, I applied for a position in the Newport BDC around May and we both had an interview end of August. Then the "freeze" happened and we have been patiently waiting for them to call.
Was phoned today and told there were now no vacancies available for the Newport BDC at which point I thought it would be a case of no job for me. Then I was told a few positions had arisen in the Cardiff area and I was offered a post in a JC in Cardiff.
Perfect, I live in Cardiff so this saves me £60/month on train fair
I start Nov 23rd and can't wait. I have been working in M&S for the past couple weeks on a temporary Xmas contract and my feet can't take much more standing up for 8 hours a day hehe.
Good luck to everyone who is still waiting. Hope to hear soon that you got the call.Good luck for the 23rd November

You'll then submit your findings to the supervisor who will help you make a decision on whether a NINO should be issued. I think it was really interesting as each case is individual and some of the stories (true or otherwise!) you'll hear will both amaze and sadden you.
I would liken it to the immigration officers you see on the airport programmes deciding whether to let someone into the country!
