I've just had a call out of the blue - saying that I've been successful at application stage for an AO position working for the DWP in Lybster, Caithness, North Scotland and that they want me to attend an interview up there!

I don't remember applying for the job up there (that could be my fault - I can't find the email I applied with, but Ive applied for that many things these last months......) and have just had my Disclosure Scotland CRB certification through literally today for an EO position in Shropshire I've been successful in (letter received Oct 8th and now on Merit List), so I'm a bit confused.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm going to go for it - I'm currently unemployed and it sounds exciting - plus I'm desperate!

Any help or advice, people? Is this familiar?

   [/QUOTE/

I know just what you mean - I have also applied for stacks of jobs and as a result lost track of what's what!

Lybster is a fishing village WAY up north - almost as far north as you can get. The nearest towns, though some distance away, are Wick and Thurso. They aren't very big either........if you want a quiet, rural kind of life then this would be perfect. If you are looking for something exciting, however, then perhaps this would disappoint. It really is quite remote. Good luck anyway, whatever you decide :D
  • Help guys am kicking myself didnt read (or tryto ) this thread before , my other half has gone for two jobs in our area currently being advertised an AO post and an EO post - he has lots of civil service experience at AO level (dvla and HMRC) will he still have to go through the same kinds of checks as he would have been security checked very recently by DVLA - i just dont want anything to hold up a possible job offer he may have - do DWP really need people or are they just banking them??? He recently passed the first selection process stage for the ONS but then got a letter to say they had no vacancies in the area so that was a waste of time

    Thanks

    Hi everyone
Am new to this so please bear with me. I had my interview for IRC 58752 East Midlands in April and success letter dated 11th May. I FINALLY got the call last week to start at Derby Jobcentre on 23rd November. Wohoo! It wasn't even in my top 3 locations and will involve a half hour train journey each way, but I was jiggered if I was going to turn it down!!
I had totally lost faith that I would ever get placed but now it has finally happened I am ecstatic.
Good luck to all thpse waiting and don't give up like I almost did!!

Thats brilliant news, cannot believe you have been kept waiting for soooo loooong! good luck for the 23rd of November.

That's the thing - I went for EO in SHrops and have been successful, pending. I don't remember applying for AO in North Scotland, but if they want people up there and it's all they've got left then......well, what do I do? Could it be a mistake?

I'm based in Stoke-On-Trent, but the family are Scots and I've got family in Scotland - Barrhead (Glasgow), Kilmarnock and also Saltcoats (Ayrshire) - all West Coast Scotland mind you.

It's the only prospective interview I've got lined up - I'm just waiting for the confirmation email to come through.

Has it happened to you? What are your honest thoughts - is this a mistake on their behalf?

People do apply for more than one role with the DWP, which is fine, but your applications are miles and miles apart.

It's a bit unrealistic to go for a job interview in North Scotland if you live in Stoke, don't you think.
Unless you were actually already planning to move there.

If you think they have made a mistake in contacting you regarding the North Scotland role then just call them.
I'm sure you would remember applying for a role so many miles away.

What do you mean by "you have been successful for EO but it is pending".

    Pending what?

    Cheers Heather,

I know what you mean about exciting - mind you Shropshire isn't a full-on stonking clubbers paradise :rotfl:

I'm quite a together, easy-going, keep-himself-to-himself chap anyway so part of me thinks - you know what, let's just see where life takes me...... :j

I'm over the moon I got a call for an interview, let alone anything else the way things have been lately :D:D

    Thanks again Heather

Pending a phone call and a start date, matey.

Success letter received Oct 8th, CRB back clean, refs will be good if and when they ask for them. I don't know if they're going to ask for them, but I cannot sit waiting.

  • Hi Mo

Which area have you chosen as your preference area for IRC 62668?

    Hi All,

I stumbled upon this wonderful forum whilst googling IRC63183 for which I have an interview for tomorrow. Its nice to see there are so many ppl supporting each other, sharing information and encouraging one another in these difficult times.

I myself will have been unemployed for 21 months tomorrow (was made redundant on the 12th of Feb 2008) so the fact that I have made it through the DWP recruitment process with a couple of success letters for AO / EO roles and an interview for a HEO role has been the light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel.

As you can imagine being out of work for so long, I am eager to get back and on Monday received a call for IRC61488 (AO role in Watford) saying that I could start next Monday 16th November. This was good news but I was slightly concerned as I also received a success letter for IRC62668 (EO role, London) on 20th October but not heard anything since. I mentioned this to the lady that called me and she assured me should I receive a start date for the EO role there would be no problem in me switching over. Satisfied with her answer, I accepted the offer, hung up but then remembered that I would be interviewing for the HEO role this week. I then emailed the DWP using the email address posted somewhere on this forum asking if it was OK to swap roles should I be offered a start date for the EO role and furthermore if it would be ok for to move again should i be successful at the HEO interview. I got a reply late yesterday evening telling me that if I accepted the AO role all my other applications will be withdrawn and would be essentially stuck with that role. It also mentioned I was joint 25th on the merit list for the EO role but could not be given any further information about a start date as the JCP were completing a staff review expected to finish around late November.

Can anyone please tell me which of the above is correct because I am desperate to start work and dont want to be in a position where I have turned down a definite job only to find that I have to wait 6 months for another role albeit better paying. Personally it doesn't make sense to me to keep someone who is capable of fulfilling EO in an AO or I am just being selfish?

    Thanks,
    Mo
