I contacted newcastle today to check if they had sent out reference requests as I needed to change an address on mine, apparently they dont start taking references until the CRB is back.

Until the CRB is back? Blimey !!!

I had a look around the internet yesterday to see what the score was out there in CRB land. I read an account of some lady who last week found out, that there is a 12 WEEK backlog with the CRB checks, probably due to all the DWP applications lol?

    CRAZY MAD CRAZY !!

I mean, I have put in for more than one position and each one is another ruddy form !! Reading on here many people are putting for more than one position so I do wonder how many applications are going through the CRB unnecessarily? Why the frig you can't just fill in one form, then give them the form reference number at interview/selection and fax a copy when it arrives is beyond me? But dare I say it is an insite to the roles ahead !! lol

Still the whole CRB thing is a farce. I know of people who have been put off of job roles because of the need for a CRB check and not because they are nonces. There is a local lass who put in for the council and they wanted a CRB while waiting she got another job...and that was before the 12 week wait.

The CRB check is criminal itself lol

In this day and age with all the "joined up" computing and form reading technology, how can it take so long to check this crud? Why the heck can't you go to a local administration office and get it from there? Only in this country could you have to use a postal service to get information from a computer!! lol

    Jeesh I seem bitter 2day....

I sent my CRB back to Newcastle 3 weeks ago!

And called today asking what is happening with my application. I don't know how much longer I'm having this job because of changes in work... May be redundant soon!

So they said they will call me back, as all applications are packed away because they are moving offices (so may be a few more days?)...

Hopefully they will actually call me back and give me some info. I've had no internet for a month, hence not able to apply for jobs. As soon as I get it back, I am gonna apply for more because I'm sick of waiting.

So........the CRB checks take 3 months and only after that do they start requesting personal and HMRC references? And in the midst of all this chaos they are having an office move?

    What?????:confused::mad::confused::mad: etc...

All this waiting is just ridiculous. I have previously undertaken an enhanced CRB since Im a teacher and it took 12 days. Why on earth a basic disclosure takes so long?Apart from that, all these interviews for 2,3,4 or even 5,6 jobs for the same candidates, all these double and triple checkings for the same candidates photocopies posts letters etc would have been avoided if things were accurate and clear for people who apply for jobs with the DWP. what a waste of time and money.

To be honest I don't really know alot about the role, the job description was pretty vague. The impression I got from the interview was that the majority of the jobs were gonna be in Broadstairs and mainly computer based.

I have the same number on all my correspondence from them, annoyingly. I may try faxing them instead see if that gets me anywhere!

Good Afternoon Hope you are well..

Just wondered how you got on with the faxing over, Ive tried all three of the numbers I have and all are constantly engaged!

Sorry to chop up your post, but you've hit the nail on the head and you definitely need to be able to adapt quickly to frequent changes if you are going to survive. At least you are going in with your eyes open! ;)

Luckily I thrived on change and only left after 20 years because I'd done all the jobs that were around then that I fancied! :D
    Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...

    Hi Lili2008......

Further to my previous posts my original CRB was mislaid! However having faxed this over to them on Thursday last week on two seperate occasions i called them back a day later and having recd the fax they advised me that they had completed the ref checkes via the Inland Revenue to confirm where and when I worked for my previous employer. So it looks like ( certainly in my case) that the ref checks are completed very quickly!

But I haven't filled a CRB in (for the EO post, anyway).

Above all I would like to congratulate all of you who have got your starting dates and also write down my experience as Im still on the other side...
I ve applied for an AO position got my tests and interview on the 5th of March. A week later received my waiting list letter. When I called I was informed that my position on the merit list is 89th out of the top 90. No news since then. Second interview EO got my successful letter with no waiting list indications in it. So I thought great!Called Newcastle a nice bloke informed me there's no waiting list for this exercise (jargonese, what can I say) and Im on the successful list in top 40 out of 60. Received my Scotland Disclosure which came from Scotland in a white envelope so sent it to Newcastle last week. I hope things will turn out well for everyone, its nerve braking and utterly frustrating to wait in a complete uncertainty, especially when people who have received successful letters with no waiting list connotations, receive "Sorry but your on a waiting list afterall". Im really relieved this forum exists,I thought I was on my own in this lenghty recruitment/waiting list process. Cheers

So you have got your CRB / Disclosure Scotland back then? How long did that take, seems to be about just under 2 months? I was reading somewhere on the internet that a woman was told it is 12 weeks backlog!! So if it is about a month then it is not so bad....well for the powers that be anyway lol

You are right, it is such a frustrating process. You read and hear all over the internet that the JCP offices are crying out for staff but have to wait for the process. Absolutely mad. Really needs modernising lol

It is strange the way different recruitment exercises are run by different officers, although ultimately the end process is the same, slow thing. Each post I have applied to has been different in one way or another. TBH I am getting a bit peeved with it all. I am having another interview for another post this weekend and am boning up on my competences but really I feel that I have had enough of all this weirdness. I have found the Competency Based interviews a bit weird anyway.

In the early days of this stint of applications I noticed a lot of people had high hopes. There seems almost an acceptance that it is not worth the mither to go through all that stuff just to be on a waiting list for 12 months. The uncertainty can destroy people I am sure.

I agree vasia, this site has been good to share frustrations and know that all of our experiences are not unique!!!
