  • Does CRBs usually take 5weeks for a first timer???

Also i spoke with a friend that works at JBC+, and she said for me to be on a waiting list means i didn't perform well at the interview, and chances of them calling is very slim (This really made my day today, if you get my drift). Please did anyone actually failed the interview, and did anyone get a withdrawal letter at the end of the waiting period.

I am really confused, i am desperate for a job, and now this!!!

My CRB took about 4 weeks to come, I was worried too as a lot of people seem to get them back really quick but I got mine in the end.

In an email I received when I enquired about the time span of CRB checks, I was told it can take 4-6 weeks so I'd say if it hasn't come after 6 weeks then to give the number on your letter a call and see what is going on with your checks and find out whether they have cleared or not.

Think positive! There have been loads of people on here that were on the infamous waiting list and have been employed, so try not to think it's only a slim chance. People fail CRB checks, get other jobs (highly likely considering how long the whole process takes) etc etc, so each time that happens you are moving up the list and just because you're on the list, it doesn't mean to say you didn't perform well, just that others performed better.

If you email DWP or call the number on your letter, they may be able to tell you where on the waiting list you are.
Good luck and keep us updated when you hear anything.

Surprised your letter mentioned a "waiting list" but then you got told you were on the merit list.

Mine was the opposite. There was no mention of a waiting list on my letter then when I emailed I was told I was 3rd on the waiting list. Weird!

Received email today from DWP saying they were still reviewing recruitment for the West Yorks area, and that they didnt anticipate any decisions until late November.

They did, however, apologise for sending me someone else's CRB Certificate, and are sending me an envelope to return this to them:D

That's pathetic! Especially after that letter a few weeks ago saying that they hoped to start posting at the end of October.. Now it looks like the end of November at best case, which I'd guess may actually mean post-Christmas before they get round to doing anything.. Not good.

i agree, it is pathetic and very frustrating.
they should say what they mean in the first place and not keep people hanging on.
  • Hello everyone, i am new to this forum, but i have read all posts, very interesting and informative

I did my N & L, for an AO in Caerphiliy, on the 18th of September, had my interview on the 23rd and the success letter on the 29th of Sept, on a 6 months waiting list. I am yet to get my CRB, since it's my first CRB i didn't expect it to be this long. Does CRBs usually take 5weeks for a first timer???

What your friend said is rubbish. I know of a number of people who have had letters which plainly say "I'm sorry but you have been unsuccessful". Granted, to be placed on a waiting list does mean that you didn't do as well as some others, however it is way off the mark to say that you failed. I also know of a few people who were called with start dates despite being on the waiting list, so keep your chin up!

Just to clarify, i went for EO interview and recieved a letter saying i had not been successful. I then went for AO and got the letter saying i was on a 12 month waiting list, however when i phoned the number on that letter it turned out i was actually on the merit list and i got a letter to confirm this a few days later. Its quite confusing, but at the end of the day i got a job....so i wouldnt lose hope just yet. And i would hope that your friends would be more supportive and congratulate your success letter rather than tell you "well u actually havent done that well" lol. Good luck xx

I went for the test about 6-7 weeks ago now and had the interview a week after that, i reveived my letter of success and was told that they where just doing the "Pre employments checks". The person that deals with my JSA at the jobcentre has just started there and went through the same process, i asked her how long she waited for the CRB check etc and she said she waited 2 months. So i was surprised when a week later i got my CRB certificate and a week after that i received a phone call to tell me when i would be starting etc, they even sent me and email with a intro letter etc. I was pretty surprised by how fast the whole process was, tbh i thought i had dont badly at the interview and spent most of the interview having a good chat with the interviewers and didnt directly answer the questions. Looks like it worked though.

I start on the 16th November and its a great relief to be starting work, i have a 2 years old daughter and a girlfriend who both live with me, i'm only 21 so im in the highest band of unemployment so i feel great to have got this job, i have friends who are 1 yeay + unemployed with no real signs of that changing. Determined to make a real go of this job, even though i've read alot of forum of people saying it's a horrible job, depressing etc but i always say you only get out of a job what you put in. If you go in thinking "uh ive got to deal with these unsavoury people today i cant be bothered" then you will hate your job. I'm hoping this will be my stepping stone to better things, promotion etc (i know it a temporary contract but there is scope for permanancy) and i hope to never be out of employment again, as my dad always say if you have a job you can get a job.

Good luck to all those waiting for letters, or on the waiting list and congrats to those who where successful.

  • I had an email last month telling me I was joint first on the merit list and that my pre-employment checks had been done and forwarded to the business area concerned but that there was a freeze on recruitment until late October, which we all already knew.

So now that we are into November I emailed for an update hoping for better news, unfortunately the reply just seems to be the same info rehashed except instead of it saying the end of October it now says "ongoing review of staffing requirements". This is the reply I received.....

"I can confirm that selection exercise IRC61302 still exists,
unfortunately there has been a delay in Jobcentre Plus posting
successful candidates from this exercise due to their ongoing review of
current staffing requirements. I should explain that whilst Resourcing
administers selection activity on behalf of Jobcentre Plus, any offer of
employment is made directly be the local business area.

I am unable provide a contact at Jobcentre Plus and can only advise that
they have been informed that you pre appointment checks are clear, and
that they will contact you immediately once they are in a position to
    offer you a post.

I appreciate that this is a difficult time for anyone awaiting a start
date and regret that I cannot provide further information at this time."

So unless somebody has a good number for my business area I shall continue to standby to standby and await the much anticipated call...

Best wishes to everyone on here
