They have probably been put on the bottom rung of the pay grade, which goes up by increments and/or performance, from £15,400 to the grade ceiling of £17,700, thats how it seems to work in civil service and other public sector jobs..

Can anyone pleasse give me some advice. My partner has, finally, started work with the DWP after 8 months of waiting, thats the good news. The bad news is she has a letter offering her a job at £17,700 per annum, however when she got her payslip she is in fact earning £15,400 a disparity of £2,300. SHe has spoken to her manager who said there is nothing that can be done. IS there anyone with a legal/HR background who can offer advice on this please

    Hi,

Possibly as mentioned could be top and bottom of scale BUT if her letter of appointment is at £17,700 that is what she should be paid IMHO.

Not got a legal/HR background, hope someone comes along soon who has.

Wish you well with this, must be disappointing.

I've been offered an EO position at my local JCP, due to start Monday 9 November. I've got a few questions however, and would be grateful if someone on the forum could answer them for me.

I haven't been told much about the training, does anyone know how many weeks training usually lasts? Also, what hours is the training likely to be based on? I currently have another job in the evening, and would need to arrange time off to cover the training period.

What is the dress code at JCP? Is it smart, or smart-casual?

I hope someone can shed some light on these things for me, and I'm sorry if it's been covered before - I jus don't know if I can trawl through this entire thread!

    Thanks

Hi, I just started work at a Job centre in the south east on 19th october. In my office we have the induction and your manager also sends you to some facilitated events/courses depending on what role you will be doing. The training can last up to 6weeks with alot of shadowing others to see what they are doing and how they do things. The dressing is Smart Casual.

    Goodluck

Hi could it be that the pay band is 15400-17700. In DWP regardless of experience, you start on the lowest pay in you band unless you have been a civil servant or DWP employee within 12months or so.

As I said on your other thread you raised, one of these is starting salary for an AA and one for an AO in Outer London, you don't seem to be clear in your other post which role she is performing. Could it be that the letter included a list of different scales for different grades?

Has someone told you you might get a cheque? If you look back on this thread or thrgouh my posts you'll see I posted something about pay for the first mnoth a while back, they do run a late payrun to pick up people like yourself so you should get picked up on one of those but that would still be via BACS.

Any idea what we're expected to wear? I've got a ton of office clothes from my last job - shift dresses, shirts, trousers etc don't want to go in looking like a total !!!! though!!

In my office all the men are dressed very smartly (suits) but ties are optional. About 50% wear ties. There are some comfortable shoes which is so Civil Service.

As for the women they seem to wear what they want. There is a mix of dresses, skirts and trousers (including jeans) but the tops range from t-shirts through to floaty type tops. I have not seen a shirt or blouse so far. The smartest girl in the office is the cashier who is immaculate, or would be if she didn't keep her fags poking out of the breast pocket of her jacket.

I should add that all the staff are so friendly and helpful - they are so grateful that they have got some extra assistance.

Sammy - it says on RM (under payslip) that we will get paid by cheque which is probably why she thought that.
