Just rang them and have been told they haven't even sent off for my CRB because they are awaiting proof of address. Excuse me but shouldn't this have been highlighted at the original interview over two months ago, or at least I should have been contacted about this by now? I had correct proof of address with me at the interview anyway so it looks like they've gone and lost my details somewhere along the line. When I questioned this they said they'd been trying to contact me - utter rubbish; I've not received a telephone call, letter or anything else. All the chasing up has come from me.

With my rent in serious arrears, I'm desperate to start earning money as soon as possible, and yet it looks like I'm going to have to wait at least another month for something that should have been done over a month ago. Utterly ridiculous. This whole recruitment drive has been a complete shambles.

I guess that if they require proof of address, they don't knbow your address at all, so obviously can't contact you via mail.
Seems like they lost your details. Nicht so gut.

  • The interview normally lasts 30-40 minutes. My experience is that we home in on an aspect of a comeptency and ask the candidate to expand on that. We have tried to cover each competency in 10mins each

The test scores and interview scores are weighted and added together. The aim would be to do well in both areas.

Oh no!!! Not fair !!! lol

I took my first tests a while ago and have had to resit the tests until the certificate came through. By the time of my last EO interview I had received my certificate and gave it to them and concentrated on the interview (same day). I now know that I get all of the literacy points and each time the math was getting better, my cert says I had 16 in the math but I know I was better than that at my last actual test.

If I had known they weighted towards the overall score I would have sat the tests again, could have got more points :-(

I would also agree that the recruitment exercises have a huge variability.

    Test day notifications:

Two that communicated only by email, with no phone contact number, one of which gave a months notice and the other with 2 days notice..

Two by snail mail, one with 2 days notice and the other a fortnight of notice.

    Then interviews.

One on the day of the tests as they stated.
    One with a fortnights notice.
One with a one day notice. This one I had turned up for the tests on Saturday then they asked me to come back tomorrow for interview? Some people have a life and may have things planned. I know it is DWP But they are only temporary posts. In a just over a years time all the successful gals and guys may be back on the other side of the desk @ the JCP :-(

I know they are snowed under and the recruitment process is not designed for the situation they are in but it is like there is no conformity or standard.

    Take the CRB check form.

One I filled in at home with their address for receipt of post.
Two I filled in on the day with Newcastles IRC number on it.
One I filled in before interview on the day with MY address and a promise of an envelope in the post to send MY CRB to Newcastle.

The last one, when I queried that it was a different form filling exercise compared to the others, in that I had to put in MY postal address on it and not the DWP, the officer said "Oh no you can't do it like that, it is not legal!"?

Also has anyone actually tried to put the full Newcastle address and IRC number on the form?

All I know is that I would like some of Disclosures Scotlands Profit from these exercises lol

I felt for one lady. She got home on a Saturday morning to find that she was due at a location she applied to that very morning but it was 250 miles away?

She phoned the selection centre about it. Quite emotional and peeved it seems. But I guess there is enough of us fodder to fill the gaps. Kind of reminds me of that film Beau Geste. Anyone seen Gary Cooper about?

Well done Molli!!! Well I was hoping for a letter this morning and nothing!! It's now nearly 3 weeks since my interview and I have heard nothing so thinking I have got absolutely nowhere again, even though I used to work in the dept. Am debating whether or not to phone and find out if the letters have even been sent out but don't want to sound desperate, even though I am!

Above all I would like to congratulate all of you who have got your starting dates and also write down my experience as Im still on the other side...
I ve applied for an AO position got my tests and interview on the 5th of March. A week later received my waiting list letter. When I called I was informed that my position on the merit list is 89th out of the top 90. No news since then. Second interview EO got my successful letter with no waiting list indications in it. So I thought great!Called Newcastle a nice bloke informed me there's no waiting list for this exercise (jargonese, what can I say) and Im on the successful list in top 40 out of 60. Received my Scotland Disclosure which came from Scotland in a white envelope so sent it to Newcastle last week. I hope things will turn out well for everyone, its nerve braking and utterly frustrating to wait in a complete uncertainty, especially when people who have received successful letters with no waiting list connotations, receive "Sorry but your on a waiting list afterall". Im really relieved this forum exists,I thought I was on my own in this lenghty recruitment/waiting list process. Cheers

    Hi
When did you have your interview? I had my interview at Sutton in Ashfield on the 25th April and was told that they where interviewing again on the 2nd May but haven't heard anything.Does anyone know how long it normally takes before we get a letter?

They said they'd tried contacting me by phone - but there's been no messages left or indeed anyone trying to ring me. And they do have my address - that's how the 'congrats! you've been successful at interview! now you'll have to wait until the next millennium before we have a job for you!' letter got sent to me in the first place.

I emailed off a scan of my address on something official today along with an incredibly polite but obviously cheesed off comment, so hopefully they might bear in mind that they've screwed up somewhere. However, it doesn't really matter to them as I'm the one who actually needs the job

And in the meantime it's looking increasingly likely that I'm going to be forced into doing some pointless job scheme voluntary work thing despite the person at the Job Centre admitting it would be a complete waste of time for me. Gah!

I took my Literacy and Numeracy tests on the morning on 16th February. I was immediately told that I had passed both tests and invited for an interview that same afternoon. Prior to the interview I completed a CRB form.
I then attended the interview later that afternoon, 16th February.
I then had a short telephone interview around 1 week later, so on or around 23rd February - I have no idea what this was all about! I was only asked one question which seemed to be exactly one of the questions that I was asked during my interview on 16th Feb.
The next thing that happened was that I received a letter dated 12th March confirming that I was successful and that they are undertaking pre-recruitment checks.
My CRB arrived by post a few days later and I telephoned DWP to ask if the process was then complete. They said that as the CRB was sent to me, I had to send it to Newcastle myself. I did that immediately. My referees were then contacted around 20th April and then responded immediately.
Then on 1st May, I was telephoned and offered the EO position to start immediately.
I have telephoned DWP a few times during this process to find out what is going on and each time they seem to know nothing. However, despite the fact that it has been soooooo slow, I am happy that I have had no problems and am looking forward to working.
If anyone would like to know anything from me then just ask. :)

EO interview 18th of March, Leicestershire. I hadnt received any letters so I called and they had to send a new one they said to confirm I was successful on the interview. The lad said it must have been lost in the post. Called Newcastle in the morning they said a couple of weeks now. Come on...
