Got a phone call this morning from my lone parent advisor Mary asking if i would meet a lady from Working For Families today at the nursery i'll be taking Sonny to as she thought she could help with a few things. So i went along and turns out they help parents with low incomes or lone parents who want to get back to work but childcare costs stop them being able to. anyway the nursery is costing £175 a week, plus £75 deposit and £20 membership fee. I'll only pay 20% of my childcare but they wanted one month upfront (i had planned to borrow it from family to pay it). Anyway this lady basically told me that the organisation were going to pay ALL OF THE FEES for the first month. And she also gave me £40 vouchers for clothes for starting work AND £60 for food shopping (lol). And Mary my LPA has also said we will discuss EXACTLY what clothes i need to get and i will get vouchers to buy those specific things also. I actually cant believe how much help there is out there that were not aware of!
Hi can I just say I think your an inspiration. It is so lovely to see how you want to get on for you and your son, and how there is help there if you are kept informed.
I can remember a few years ago when as a lone parent and going back to work to show to make a better life. I was told it would be easier for me to be on benefits.
Two kids later and in a stable relationship although not doing it all on my own I still want to make sure my children have all the opportunities they deserve. I so hope I still get the call as I really want to be able to support others. I think you will be fab and understanding in your role.0 -
hi Sammy, no I am not entirely sure as I do not have a copy of the job vacancy advertised but I did save a copy of my application form and on that I had put Administrative Assistant for job description. I don't know where I would have got that from if it wasn't what it had said in the description though. The success letter verified the IRC number but did not mention the role I had applied for.0

Aww thank you so much. Thats one of the nicest things anyones ever said to me lol. Thanks! I hope u get the call soon hun. I know what u mean about wanting our kids to have everything they deserve, its my sole reason for going back to work. If it means Sonny will grow up with the things he needs/wants then id work 100 hours a week if need be. Im sure you'll be a great support to others who have been in the same situation as ourselves xxxxx0 -

Also are there rules governing/restricting second jobs e.g. something part-time in the evening or charity work etc?0

Hi SAMMYJAMMY & CAVEWOMAN.
In Jan/feb i applied for AA post in JCP but didnt get an interview, then in March applied for AO post didnt even get a reply, I moved to Berkshire and had an interview July 23rd for another AO post but got a success phone call for an EO post.. mmm. All very strange lol. But like a lot of people, i'm still waiting for a start date ( was told, by phone again, that it would be end of Aug).
Yes very difficult explaining to family and friends why i have not yet started work, they always look so baffled lol, sorry but its wearing thin now!0 -

They tend to be mainly in BDCs, in Jobcentres they have in the main been made redundant or relocated if possible."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0
