Today i learned about good customer service... through the medium of DANCE....naaaaaah only teasing. No waltzing today.
We watched videos on how to treat people with different disabilities ranging from hearing and speech to wheelchair users and people who use walking aids. All pretty obvious stuff. Don't look down at someone you are serving in a wheel chair and say 'Oh, i didn't know you were wheelchair bound!?!!' And don't walk off when a visually impaired person (can't say 'blind') is speaking to you and not tell him you are going, so he is speaking to no one! Most people i should imagine are polite and considerate enough to not do all that!
We did an exercise on discrimination where we had to look at different cases and judge wherever it was direct discrimination or not. Such as a women getting told she cant have her original job back after 1 years maternity leave etc.
We also looked at how important body language and the tone of your voice is when speaking to people. All good fun. I end up joking around and i think some people don't know wherever i am being silly....or am just plain stupid
At the end of the day he made us do brain teasers...by this time my brain was shutting down and i hardly was listening. It was obvious stuff like: How many peas in a pod (one...the letter 'P') and then we all groan as its so stupid.
Still haven't signed my contract. Also no one has took our bank details yet. Oh and only 3 people out of 8 have their employee number, meaning those that don't (including me) can't get the key card to access the computers/open doors etc.
sounds like u have been having fun m'lady lol, bit dumb only some of u getting ur staff numbers tho0 -

Your training sounds good so far. Im starting to worry a bit cos on my letter (i opted to have it sent as email so got it right away) said i only had a one day "induction event" at dunfermline job centre, then id start the next day at the office im working at. I assume i must get more than one days training, but it doesnt sound like mine will be anything like yours. Eeek0 -
Staff numbers have to be created by Shared Services (outsourced) who will create your record on the payroll ssystem, you'll get used to that service from them, you've a good week before you need to worry about it.
I've heard people wait weeks for there contracts to come through (again generated in Shared Services - are you getting the idea....) and that was before all this mass recruitment so don't hold your breath."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

Sorry didn't answer your question early enough, its been one of those weeks, I think I've done 48hrs already! If you look on that civil service pension website you'll see a link to pension calculators, if you put some fake info in based on your salary etc and a length of service it should help you work out which one is best for you and you can have a play to your hearts content.
Counterfeit - its not a case of getting it back its yours and will apy out on retirement. You could try using the civil service pensions site or email the HR dept of the relevant sector of Civil Service to get an up to date assessment and update any address details etc if necessary.
Can't advise personally on the pension options as neither existed when I started (I told you it had been a while).
Thanks Sammy! I phoned Mary back (the woman who gave me "the call" lol) and opted for the partnership scheme but after finding the civil service site and looking into it in more depth i emailed her asking if i could change my choice to the nuvos scheme as it seems much better. She was very nice and said that would be fine! All in all the pensions look great, definately a good perk of the job! Thanks for replying xx0 -

LOL its mad isnt it. I dont recall getting anything like a compliment slip lol. I got my disclosure sent straight to me, so i passed it on to DWP and had it back, with nothing attached, 3 days later. I actually had to phone up to check that everythign was in order!0 -

thats good then. got my fingers crossed that u hear something soon. now that all your checks are completed it hopefully wont be much longer. Thing is, its easy to get disheartened. When i had an appointment a few weeks ago with my lone parent advisor she basically told me i had no chance of getting a job in that office (most local to me) as they didnt need any staff and also because they try not to post you too close to home, and also that if i got a phonecall before the end of october she would be very surprised. Im so looking forward to going to see her tomorrow to say "well there u go mary, look who was wrong" lol0 -
I don't think Brighton or Hove have any spots at all for AO's or EO's from what I heard today... they are badly overstaffed and probably won't be hiring many people(if any) until a new budget comes into effect march next year. I also applied for 60370 but I'm further down the list than you. Sounds like you'll get an offer in worthing, bognor or some of the other places. The pay scale there is national standard for EO's, just over 20k I think.
Congratulations! There is hope after all. I am supposedly number 33 on the merit list and was hoping for Brighton as I live next to the Pavilion which is only 7 mins brisk walk to the JCP on Edward Street. Maybe I will be lucky! Eyes, fingers and toes crossed that it happens.
Again congrats.0 -

There is another woman who is starting at the same jobcentre as me but she only had a 3 day course. It is quite strange...i don't know if it is about the availability of training courses but seems unfair that some people go on them and some people don't? Mystery! Maybe they think i'm so thick i need 3 weeks intensive learningVery strange...another women in my group has already been a Fortnightly job reviewer at the JC+ very recently (she was a temp) but has been sent on this 3 week course anyway? She said when she started with the Jobcentre the first time, she only had a 3 day course then as she was so short term.
Sammy...the man in charge of us said he will be sorting out our contracts next week- fingers crossed hey! I have already given in my P45 and i know some people haven't got theirs back yet from the jobcentre/previous employer/. Hopefully the rest of us will get our numbers soon too...it seems to be happening at the rate of one a day!"You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -

Ahh im confused by it but to be honest im a bit glad in some ways as its gonna be hard enough to get to dunfermline one day, never mind for a whole training course lol.0
