Hi all, I've just been told that I have been selected for an interview for an Insurance company on Monday. Obviously i'm really happy as i've been applying for jobs after jobs. I'm really worried though because job centre is the job I really want as its better pay etc. If I do get offered this job and receive the 'call' very soon after, can I still hand my notice in even if i've only just started??
I'm at the jobcentre tomorrow to sign on so will ask about it then but i'm worried that they'll say i'll just have to stick to the Insurance job even though its not really the area I want to be working in.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.0 -
Congratulations!!!
I had "the call" just before the recruitment pause / freeze was announced and I'm due to start on 19th October ... which seems to be a popular date. It's for IRC 60418 Coventry and Warwickshire.
I've had a formal offer letter which advised me that I've automatically been enrolled in the Nuvos Pension Scheme but I can transfer to the Partnership Scheme if I want to. Having no idea about what these schemes are, I googled "Nuvos Pension" and came across another thread on this forum site. There was a bit of information but nothing really useful. I did however, find the following website which has a Pension Choice Booklet and details of each of the schemes:
www . civilservice-pensions . gov . uk
(sorry ... can't post a link as I'm a Newbie)
I've decided to stick with the Nuvos Scheme but you will obviously need to make up your own mind as to which one is best for your circumstances or if you want to opt out.
Hope this helps.
Good luck in your new role.
thanks!
I googled them as well and decided to choose the partnership one. Only cos it said something about it being "more flexible" lol. I actually have no idea what one is best or what i should have picked but well, its done now lol! I'll have a look at the link u posted tho, it might have more detail than what i found! thanks x0 -
how old is sonny. he will be fine im sure. kids are tougher than we think and they easily adapt to new situations. when i moved to bristol 7 years ago my 3 kids were all at stages of their lives that they didnt want to move. one was working with steady g/f/, another one was just going off to uni and my baby was just starting his gcse year. it was a big wrench for me but they were all behind my decision to get away ( abusive relationship ). i felt really guilty but can honestly say that it was best decision i made. all my kids are independent with their own places and good careers. they use to fight all the time as brothers and sisters do but they are now really close. know its completely different to your situation but just want to show that as long as you are doing your best your kids will surprise you.
That story just shows what i already thought about you, that youi are an amazingly strong person. Thanks for sharing that with me. Sonny is 22 months old and your right, i think he will be fine. Infact i'll probably cry more than he does lol0 -

They can't make you stay in a job you don't want or anything like that. It's none of their business, really. If they make you a job offer it's because they want you to work for them, it's up to you whether or not you want to take it.0 -

I'm just worried that if I don't accept it I might be out of work for more weeks and months until I get 'the call'. But on the other side I don't want to accept it because I want to work for DWP and feel like I will just be wasting the company's time as I could only end up being there for a couple of weeks.
What a dilemma - I probably won't get it anyway lol. Do u think if I talk to the person I sign on with tomorrow at job centre they may be willing to phone business services to give me a better idea of a date?0
