Take the job if you're offered it and just leave if you get the call from the DWP. You're not signing up for life, are you?

That's a good idea about Business Services. Let me know how it goes.

Hi all, I've just been told that I have been selected for an interview for an Insurance company on Monday. Obviously i'm really happy as i've been applying for jobs after jobs. I'm really worried though because job centre is the job I really want as its better pay etc. If I do get offered this job and receive the 'call' very soon after, can I still hand my notice in even if i've only just started??

I'm at the jobcentre tomorrow to sign on so will ask about it then but i'm worried that they'll say i'll just have to stick to the Insurance job even though its not really the area I want to be working in.

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

usually when u 1st start a job u have to give 1 weeks notice to leave but if ur not bothered about a ref u cud theoretically just leave but i personally wudnt recommend it, it is an easier solution x

I'm just worried that if I don't accept it I might be out of work for more weeks and months until I get 'the call'. But on the other side I don't want to accept it because I want to work for DWP and feel like I will just be wasting the company's time as I could only end up being there for a couple of weeks.

What a dilemma - I probably won't get it anyway lol. Do u think if I talk to the person I sign on with tomorrow at job centre they may be willing to phone business services to give me a better idea of a date?

its worth a try, they may see that ur stuck with a big decision and take pity on ya :rotfl:
  • re interview, i have just been invited for a 2nd interview for the job i went for yesterday, so fingers crossed yaaaaay

  • well done mandie2106 - it's amazing how things are moving now for a lot of people despite the "freeze". I think it was just an excuse to explain their incompetence.

question re: pension for me and my wife too - we both have frozen civil service pensions from before. I wonder if we can get them back? They are not in the current pension options for new joiners.
