Hi all, I've just been told that I have been selected for an interview for an Insurance company on Monday. Obviously i'm really happy as i've been applying for jobs after jobs. I'm really worried though because job centre is the job I really want as its better pay etc. If I do get offered this job and receive the 'call' very soon after, can I still hand my notice in even if i've only just started??

I'm at the jobcentre tomorrow to sign on so will ask about it then but i'm worried that they'll say i'll just have to stick to the Insurance job even though its not really the area I want to be working in.

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

I started a job this week, with the firm in question in full knowledge that I could leave at short notice should the DWP contact me with an offer. I presume that they think that I will enjoy this job sooo much I won't want to leave if I do get an offer :rotfl:
re interview, i have just been invited for a 2nd interview for the job i went for yesterday, so fingers crossed yaaaaay

Well done to you:T:T:T Keep us informed. Seems to have gone really quiet on the DWP sheffield vacancies don't you think?

Received an email today from Newcastle informing me that all checks are now complete for the West Yorkshire vacancies, so you never know I may hear something soon. I think that it will more than likely be after Christmas now though, but you never know:D

CONGRATULATIONS to all of you who have had start dates:beer: Really pleased for you all:T:T
  • My son has just handed me a letter which was delivered this morning, only he "forgot" about it, owing to his excitement at defeating the latest boss on his xbox game and getting to a new level  Anyway, its yet another disclosure scotland from the DWP with a photocopied and hastily cut out compliment slip bearing the legend "all checks are now complete". Hope this is a good sign. Has anyone else had two disclosures sent to them?

IRC 60345 in Dundee AO at Contact Centre, Lindsay House. I think. Trouble is, I applied for so many (8 in all) that I kinda lost track of what was what, if you know what I mean. Also on waiting list for one at the Pension Centre,

Sorry didn't answer your question early enough, its been one of those weeks, I think I've done 48hrs already! If you look on that civil service pension website you'll see a link to pension calculators, if you put some fake info in based on your salary etc and a length of service it should help you work out which one is best for you and you can have a play to your hearts content.

Counterfeit - its not a case of getting it back its yours and will apy out on retirement. You could try using the civil service pensions site or email the HR dept of the relevant sector of Civil Service to get an up to date assessment and update any address details etc if necessary.

Can't advise personally on the pension options as neither existed when I started (I told you it had been a while :D).

    Okay...update time.

Today i learned about good customer service... through the medium of DANCE....naaaaaah only teasing. No waltzing today.

We watched videos on how to treat people with different disabilities ranging from hearing and speech to wheelchair users and people who use walking aids. All pretty obvious stuff. Don't look down at someone you are serving in a wheel chair and say 'Oh, i didn't know you were wheelchair bound!?!!' And don't walk off when a visually impaired person (can't say 'blind') is speaking to you and not tell him you are going, so he is speaking to no one! Most people i should imagine are polite and considerate enough to not do all that!

We did an exercise on discrimination where we had to look at different cases and judge wherever it was direct discrimination or not. Such as a women getting told she cant have her original job back after 1 years maternity leave etc.

We also looked at how important body language and the tone of your voice is when speaking to people. All good fun. I end up joking around and i think some people don't know wherever i am being silly....or am just plain stupid :D

At the end of the day he made us do brain teasers...by this time my brain was shutting down and i hardly was listening. It was obvious stuff like: How many peas in a pod (one...the letter 'P') and then we all groan as its so stupid.

Still haven't signed my contract. Also no one has took our bank details yet. Oh and only 3 people out of 8 have their employee number, meaning those that don't (including me) can't get the key card to access the computers/open doors etc.
