DWP employment waiting list

Hey I was in the exact same position as you AO and EO - AO would have cost more in travel and time EO closer to home better money. I was advised to wait and hold out for the EO.
I turned down the AO, waited and waited and waited and about a month later I received the call for the EO, and now I'm happy. Next time you speak to them ask them how long they would expect you to wait for an EO position. If it's not too long then go for it, but if not then take the AO and look for internal posts whilst you're there.
Best of luck:p
Hey Jimisugly,
Well, you never know, it's like a catch-22 situation, but I guess sometimes you have to take a small gamble and I'm really pleased it paid off for you! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
The strange thing is, I now understand that I can actually remain on the EO merit list, even if I accept the AO job. When I called the lady dealing with my case today I got through to her colleague who told me very directly that I could stay on the merit list. I had to ask him twice before I was convinced that this was the case. I also eventually got to talk to the lady and she was more convincing today, so I feel a little more reassured now!
I've accepted the AO job in the hope that some EO positions crop up locally within the next month or so. Really glad to just have a job to go to and to get back in the swing of things!
Keeping my fingers crossed for anyone else waiting. It can work out. It's probably when you'll least expect it, though!

Have you phoned them up and asked why people lower on the list were placed before you?
Hiya,
Yes a few times and I just keep getting fobbed off. I even put in an enquiry (Louise Perry's address) but they just keep answering every week or so saying someone will get back to me and they are looking into it. They just confirm I am near the top of the list and have said (verbally) they don't know why other people are being placed. I haven't been a pushover on the phone or anything but they don't seem to take it very seriously. Not sure what else to do to be honest. The thing is I've got to the point I don't even mind a later start (but this year!) if only I had a date and confirmation I definitely had a start.
I've been working back to catch up so thanks for everyone else's comments. There have definitely been quite a few people placed even from this thread on the IRC number. I had thought they must be able to work in any order they liked (although it didn't really make sense) but I couldn't think of any other explanation. Except maybe on the day my interviews were held there was some kind of administration problem and location forms weren't given (although they were sent a few weeks ago) but even then you would think if you are near the top of the list (and they worked from it!) you would have first pick of locations?0 -

Hi f.dennis
Thanks very much for your advice. I have to say things have taken a strange twist: I decided to call today with my decision in case the location I wanted had been given to someone else. I'm really grateful to even have a job offer so I decided to accept the AO position.
Anyway, when I called I got through to a colleague of the lady dealing with my case and to my relief the guy told me that in fact I could remain on the EO job merit list, even if I accepted the AO job!!!! :rotfl:
I had to ask him twice to make sure this really was the case and he promised me that it would be fine, as if an EO job came up in my area I would be able to transfer and then the AO job would be 'back-filled'.
You're right in any case that it's much easier to look for internal EO positions once you're inside the organisation.
I'm pretty sure that others will have the magic call soon. I had pretty much given up since like the majority of people I could never get through to the contact on the success letter . What a joke! Still, I'm not complaining now. Just hope I get the paper work or I'll still be wondering if it was all a figment of my imagination!! LOL.
Wishing you all the best of luck xx
That's great to hear!! Now you don't have to worry about not getting the position you would ideally like. I'm glad all worked out for you and best of luck to you!:j0 -
Hey,
I've been trawling through these pages for the last couple of weeks to see if anyone else had applied for IRC 61417 but I've not seen any discussion of it.
Application deadline: June 16th
Interview: July 29th
Letter of success: August 19th
Checks complete: August 22nd
I have heard nothing since I called two weeks ago and was told they were waiting for a start date for me.
Unfortunately the phone is always engaged or no-one picks up. Is there an email address for the HR centre?
Thanks.0 -
Hi Everyone,
I got ' THE CALL' today:money:. Still in a daze:T:T:T:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. Starting on 19th October. For everyone else waiting, you will receive yours soon enough.
Goodluck all and i will keep you posted as per what happens.

hi there, i was accepted last year for a AO position, i moved house and wrote to advise them of new address etc and also ;)tel their Newcastle office, but despite this they were still trying to get in touch with me at my old address!! Someone eventually emailed me asking me to tel this guy in newcastle and by this time they could only offer me full time in an area too far for me to travel. I have applied again in Aug this year for an EO post and was accepted and put on said list, I have now recd a disclosure certificate and take it im hopefully on my way to being offered something!! so hang on in there.0
