News for anyone waiting on 60369 and 60370. It's both positive and negative:

Positive: the freeze is lifted and calls are being made this week!

Negative: Brighton office is currently overstaffed (!!!!!!, they were screaming out for staff when I applied!), which sucks as Brighton is on a higher pay scale. Staff member at Brighton told me it's unlikely anyone will be placed at the Brighton office for a couple of months yet at least, as they need to downsize a bit first. Further, my source tells me that at the Worthing end of the region only Worthing and Bognor are taking on staff immediately.

For me, Worthing = £1300/yr train expenses. Bognor is £1800. That's assuming I'd get a 12 month ticket, which I won't because even if I get a job with DWP I'll be continuing to look for the right job within the industry I work in normally. It's a no-brainer: DWP vs computer/console games development/publishing? Latter wins!

Not got the call yet myself, and I have no idea where I am on the merit list so have no idea how long I might have to wait.

With all that you've said do you think it'll be worthwhile you actually accepting the position if offered? Its sounds as though you'll have to spend a lot on travelling expences.
  • Not sure what to make of this, I interviewed for EO position on the 19th September, had a letter exactly 2 weeks later on the 3rd October to advise that I was successful and on the waiting list, nothing new there I know.

However today less than 3 weeks from my interview I have had a call to ask me where I would be willing to travel to, and that they are currently waiting for all the checks to come back and then they will work down the list....It was intimated that everyone for the Nottingham area is on this list and they will work down it as and when peoples checks come back and which vacancies they have....

I asked her where I was on the list and she said that it was confidential information and at the moment she only had a rough copy of the list so it wouldn't be completely accurate anyway....

Is this sounding positive? Hmm personally going by what I have read on here, so far everything is going quite quickly, but I could still be in this position in a few months....

Gosh I am glad I found this forum or I would be really excited right now.....

    Any comments???

Yes, because I'll lose my benefits if I refuse. Having said that, though, I've got an application in progress that's looking really good (for a company in London ... £4000/yr travel expenses - OUCH! - but higher pay as well). So a delay on an offer from DWP while that other app progresses is welcome (as long as I get that job!)

I think from the fact that they actually contacted you about where your willing to travel should be taken as a positive. Hopefully that means they are compiling their lists for who should be placed where and are sorting out training schedules also. Good Luck!

Update for me: I'm a 'little way down the list' but I'm on their list of people to be contacted, most likely in ~2 weeks once they know which office(s) they can offer me.

This afternoon I got THE CALL!!!!!!!

I was at the top of the merit list(IRC 60369) but I have not gotten my first pick of location... it's not the higher base pay office I wanted(brighton is supposedly overstaffed) and I'm going to have to pay for travel, but hey it's a job :D. Very happy after being told I would have to wait until the end of october at the very earliest.

I start training in bognor next wednesday and I will be placed in the worthing office in a customer facing role.

Good luck everyone - it does seem as though some areas have overstaffed, but they seem to be trying to place us all somewhere, even if it's not our first choice.
