  • Well, I tried calling Newcastle a few times yesterday..it was always engaged. I wanted an update regarding my pre-recuitment checks having got my success later (no waiting list) on the 27th August and my Disclosure Scotland back from DWP dated 7th September. I hope next week I might receive the call or at least be able to get through to someone to get an update on pre-recruitment checks. The IRC is 61298 (London).

could someone clarify here. How does job centre work---not for the general public but for the staff.Targets-how do they work-and points earned on targets, how do they work? I think this would clarify alot of things.

Just wondering if anyone can help me out - I have an EO interview coming up next week in London, and the 5 competencies are:

Delivering a Professional Service (Level 2)
    Delivering a Customer-Focused Service (Level 2)
Analysing, Improving and Changing (Level 2)
    Building Capability (Level 2)
    Leading (Level 2)

I have examples for Delivering a Customer-Focused Service, Building Capability and Delivering a Professional Service. I'm just wondering if anyone can help clarify a relevant situation in regards to:

    Analysing,Improving and Changing
    Leading

I've lead a football team in the past, but I don't think that will be relevant in this case. Also, I'm not at all sure regarding Analysing,Improving and Changing. I don't want examples, for these competencies are about looking at your own past experience, but I am asking that people give me hints so I can identify relevant situations that I can use in my life.

Also, in the interview, are questions asked just in relation to the competencies, or are other questions asked like: "What is your greatest weakness?", "Why do you want to work here?" etc?

    Thanks in advance.
Analysing,Improving and Changing:- were you have anaylsed an improvement could be made & how you implemented the change, eg I said I anaylsed that the credit control procedure could be improved, then you need to be specific in how you analysed, Improved & changed hope this makes sense
Leading:- How you have lead others, it could be the football team, it can be for any area of you life, you need to demonstrate leading by example, integrity, direction & understanding
I was asked 5 competecy examples and nothing more, but this might not be the case for everyone but any other questions like "What is your greatest weakness?" etc were not asked

    GOOD LUCK

I'm not on anybody's side in this argument but I do think your cousin's case is a fairly isolated incident. Whilst never in doubt might be a bit quick to tar all junkies with the same brush, though he did clearly state that if they seemed keen to look for work he did help, I think his experience of several years working for the DWP might give him more of an insight into this area than you do by having a reformed junkie as a relative.

I'll wait until I have been working there for a few months before I decide what the reality is.

Finally, I also think that never in doubt has provided this thread with some pretty good insights in the past week or so and starting a flame war with him might just see him disappear at a time when some of us would like some insider knowledge. Look what happened when sammy tried to help us - she got loads of abuse and kept away until a few days ago.

Why can't we keep this thread on track everybody?

I just want to add that never in doubt no longer works for Jobcentre Plus or DWP, make of that what you will.

Its people like that that give the DWP a bad name.

It's a good idea to try not to get bogged down in all of this though. Some jobcentres may be very hot on targets (a good example of this is one I've encountered that has a policy of always submitting a customer to a vacancy no matter what it is) but at the end of the day you'll easily make your targets just by listening to your customers & submitting them for provision that's going to help & vacancies that are suitable.

Bluefire is right, submitting customers to jobs that suit neither the Jobseeker or the employer is not only a waste of everyones time but does nothing to improve the repetuation of the Jobcentre. Its a tricky one because individual managers/District Managers will have their own ideas.

I was also trying Newcastle all last week and no one was picking up. I am also London--60227. I applied in May and had a success letter 29/06/09. So far DWP have lost 2 CRB checks on me and haven't confirmed if the 3rd one has reached them. Also, one of my reference requests has been caught up in the postal strike. I would love to know if my checks are now all clear and will continue phoning next week. I only have one number--what number have you been trying?

I left because they changed so much over the years that it was becoming a chicken farm, spit around as many claims as you could in the shortest time. I did not join the DWP to do people harm - but actually to help.

I left to join Shaw Trust knowing they specialised in helping people with disabilities, I knew I could bring change and good to them and so left. At the time it was both money and ethical.

Nonsense. You must be living a sheltered world if you think one comment from me gives the DWP a bad name. I think you'll find the politicians do a great job of that themselves.

I did, as it happens, state in both replies that if someone wants help then too right they would get it. It becomes a little hard to remain focussed when senior management are results driven - and for the record when I was a front line PA I worked in the ONE service, in case you don;t know what that was - it was the brains behind JC+ and linked council and other benefits into the system so at the time we were the most knowledgeable and recognised team as we were at the forefront of things to come.

As a result, changes were needed but staff didn;t want to move with the business ethos and as a result I left front line and went into fraud.

In a nutshell, I joined to help others - that unfortunately isn't always viable and so you keep suit with the team or fall foul.

Make of that what you will but do not imply I left under a cloud - I left because JC+ became a circus focussed on results and not helping people......

Different teams/management/areas/lms operate differently.... maybe you ought to remember that!

A man in Glasgow see's a job advertised at the JC+ for a f@nny waxers assistant. Job includes 'remove ladies knickers, wax and rub in cream afterwards'. The man (very exitedly) asks the PA for the full description and other details and is told to go to Plymouth. He asks the PA 'is this where the job is located?'

The PA says - 'no, thats the back of the effin queue'...... :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Hi,

I called the number that ends in 8256. Apparently the person is a team leader. Two people have been posted from my IRC so I really hope I get posted soon.
