Counterfeit...what's it like working in fraud?
Well, firstly I should explain I have worked in
Tax fraud
VAT fraud
Accounting fraud
Duty fraud (smuggling - including drugs, !!!!!! and armaments)
So, my work was mainly investigation either on site (at businesses), sitting in the back of dingy smelly vans with video cameras or pretending to be a customer wanting a job doing for cash (not your local builder type thing - more sort of buying £20k worth of TVs without an invoice).
The work was an odd mixture of really boring stuff trawling through a company's records to the really exhilerating stuff of arresting drugs and !!!!!! smugglers.
The good thing about it was that apart from the paperwork after a case, you were hardly ever stuck in an office.
Sometimes it coud be a little dangerous but I only ever got into a dodgy situation twice in 13 years.
The biggest downside of the work was that you could be away from home for quite long(ish) periods which is fine until you have children. We had our second child in March 2003 and I had been made redundant (my company went bust) 6 weeks beforehand. I never made an attempt to go back to it purely because the kids are too young to be away from for any length of time.
I would love to get into Benefit Fraud when I get into the DWP but we will have to wait to see whether that is an option in Leeds.0 -

Jim, thanks also. I just with i could know the kinda time length i may be there, like with your letter....would hate to be there for a couple of months than get chucked out! Especially with spending the last few months fraught with tension!!'
I wouldn't worry to much Venus, they're advertising again for EO's in our area, so I'm hoping that will mean there is more of a chance for us to be taken permanently - and as others have said - we can always apply for permanent jobs once we're in there and we've decided if we like it or not.
Good luck for monday - I'll look forward to your posting0 -

If things became so intolerable for you and you had to hand your notice in because they were wanting to know when you were leaving (due to the DWP applying for references) then when you apply for Benefit from them then there is nobody else to blame but themselves, they should not apply for references if there is no imminent job available.0

Just ve abit of an update regarding the above IRC- London and Southeast - Was able to speak to someone at Newcastle. Very nicely explained about the ''Recruitment Freeze''. Said they ve a script to tell everyone that the business areas are having a review of their staffing requirements and we should expect to hear back back the end of october to say the least but we can be called earlier. Also said No one had been called/placed from this recruitment exercise and they just had 26 names to do the check for- All have been cleared on the list he said. So fingers crossed we wait for rnd of October thats just 3wks away.
Keeping my fingers crossed that the call should be earlier.0 -
Is there anyone out there for this IRC apart from myself that is!0

Good luck that the call does come earlier. I'm for IRC61569 (also south East) AO, and really hope to get "the Call" very soon. I really want to get back into work.0 -
Hi
I chased up the Scotland Disclosure people who confirmed it was received on 28 August, completed and sent back to the DWP on 5 Sep. Is there anything I need to do now or just wait for the DWP to contact me? what usually happens!?0 -

I know what you mean. I have been out of work since Feb 09. Been very frustrating not earning nothing and debt growing and its getting scary now. Where in the Southeast are you.0
